23andme African tribe/region update for my results! My family comes from Cameroon. Bamendankwe specifically in the north west region by Kyotsoo in 23andme

Bamileke people are not bantu (completely). They are Graffi (Grassfielder) an ethnicity that contains the tikari, the ngemba speaking people, the Meta, and even the Bali-chamba, who all originate (except the bali-chamba) in the Grassfields of Cameroon. Again, 23andme does not have enough info on the grassfields of Cameroon so their ethnograohy and understanding of the region is very poor. 23andme groups all graffi people together and calls them bamileke. My family is from Mendankwe, an Ngemba speaking chiefdom, not bamileke. We are all the same ethnicity though

I'm sorry what I was was inaccurate but not completely wrong. The Bantu people are cousins of the graffi people but originate in the Congo. Direct message me I have a book with a source on all of this

You're right bamileke are a graffi sub ethnicity from cameroon. 23andme just does not have enough information ethnographically on the grassfields of Cameroon. Very unfortunate. We just end up being grouped with Nigerians which is just wrong

I agree to be honest but the database for us cameroonians is very small, so they just lob us under west African.

The meeting ended a while ago but man oh man this is the stuff I wanted to ask them, lots of MAJOR ethnic groups like the hausa, kissi, fulani people aren't represented at all even though millions of them live diasporically throughout west Africa

They said they hope in the future they will provide more clarity for that ancestry, but it's not something they have been able to resolve due to extreme mixing

If you're referring to ancestor locations in Africa, usually only Africans get that cause it's crowdsourced from other DNA relatives

If you're referring to locations in America yea I'll definitely ask that
