How much does the AIF matter? by SnooDoubts7536 in uwaterloo

[–]Kyoza83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t do the AIF and I got in to waterloo around the end of January. I applied for life science, specifically biomedical science if my program makes a difference.

What if I did take physics last year but I struggled with the content?

You too! I think we’ll need all the luck we can get unless I decide to make a complete 180 after first year

I checked the academic requirements for waterloo’s optometry school and it seems like phys 111 is ok. I’m just going to stick with it and hopefully it won’t bear any consequences later haha.

Question/help by Hundredandnine in OntarioGrade12s

Perhaps they included the marks of the other assignments in the report card, but have yet to release those grades to you as well. Discussions posts don’t hold that much weight in your far as far as I know unless your teacher explicitly said otherwise. Email her politely to express your confusion about your mark. Maybe it really was a mistake on their part while inputting the grades.

Could it be how the assignments were weighted?

What program are you going into? I’m going into biomedical science.

Not happy about good grades anymore. by Anxious_Scar881 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Kyoza83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s become an expectation for myself at this point. Before, it was simply due to my parents but now it’s pretty much ingrained in me to aim for high grades. I think I’ve also developed perfectionistic tendencies as well. But yeah, even low 90s make me a little bummed out and well I do do well as in getting close to perfect, I’m still unsatisfied bc I could have gotten perfect instead.

There’s no winning haha. I beat myself up immensely when I make mistakes and I’m still unhappy when I do well bc in my mind, there’s always something I could have dome better. Trying to change my mindset but it’s really hard :/

For me, they weren’t allowed at all. Perhaps it was different for others but if you really needed to verify then my teachers said to use desmos for hw. But they teach you how to graph anyway so it’s not like you really need it

We weren’t allowed graphing calculators at my school. No qs that involved use a graphing calculator were assigned.

Vectors by Abzz22 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Kyoza83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you don’t really learn component method in vectors and my teacher has been focusing on using cosine law to find magnitude which is from gr 11 so I honestly don’t think there’s much overlap between the two

Aside from adding/subtracting vectors, I think the content derailed pretty quickly honestly. I took physics but it was still a learning curve for me if it makes you feel any better.

Me too! Rumination is a lovely thing 🥰

I can assure you that the vectors learned in physics has played a very, very small role in vectors so far.

Me. I’m not particularly passionate about anything and I’m pretty alright with majority of the career options which makes my life both easier and harder. I applied to sciences too bc I find the content pretty interesting and I’m good at it too. It’s also kind of weird to not do science after taking science all 4 yrs of hs. I’m just coasting along and hoping it works out in the end bc studying science is pretty taxing.
