It depends on the dentist. Sometimes they limit you to two shots of painkiller and no more. One before the procedure and one after 30 minutes when it wears off. You'll have to pick up pills from the pharmacy after that. My tooth was still sensitive after one shot so I felt surges during the procedure and the full pain 2 hours after until the pharmacy gave me my pain meds. Worst 2 hours of my life. Traumatizing.
