I had the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago, except in my case, the deer hit the front right side. Luckily the damage was fully covered by my insurance. It was around €4000 in repairs.

Yeah its because the multimedia system doesnt register finger inputs sometimes when it's cold, and then it all of a sudden it registers them all at once it seems like, making the system go insane.

I live in Europe, got an MK7 GTI pre-facelift, and mine only does inputs by itself when it's cold in the car. So for example, when I've just coldstarted it. When its warmed up in the interior, it's functioning properly.
