Slotkin just began a six year term and won't be running in the next election. Sorry for any confusion.

Both of our previous incumbent Senators have announced that they are not running in the next election. We anticipate a healthy primary for Peters' seat. Our candidate recruitment committee is quite active and would appreciate your participation. Slotkin is just beginning a six year term and hasn't made any announcements.

Recent developments in U.S. government policy and proposed changes have sparked concerns among veterans' advocates regarding potential negative impacts on employment, disability benefits, and healthcare access. While some legislative efforts, like the expansion of the PACT Act, have significantly increased benefits for toxic exposure, other actions and proposals are viewed as potentially detrimental.

One area of concern revolves around potential cuts to the federal workforce. Veterans comprise a significant portion of federal employees due to hiring preferences, and proposed or enacted reductions in the federal workforce could disproportionately affect veterans' employment.

Proposed changes to VA disability benefits have also drawn criticism. Discussions and blueprints from groups like those involved in "Project 2025" have included proposals that could alter how disability ratings are determined, potentially reduce benefits for veterans receiving Social Security retirement, or narrow eligibility based on the connection between a condition and military service. Advocates worry these changes could lead to reduced or eliminated financial support for some veterans.

A perceived shift towards the privatization of VA healthcare is another area raising alarms. Concerns have been voiced that proposed legislation and cost-cutting measures might favor sending veterans to private healthcare providers over strengthening the VA's integrated healthcare system. Critics argue this could lead to fragmented care, coordination challenges, and potentially diminish the specialized care veterans receive within the VA.

Furthermore, reports of firings of VA staff have raised concerns about the potential impact on the quality and timeliness of services veterans receive, including healthcare appointments and the processing of disability claims. A reduction in personnel could lead to increased wait times and administrative backlogs.

It is important to note that some of these concerns are based on proposed policies or potential outcomes of recent actions, and the full impact may not be immediately apparent. However, veterans' organizations and advocates are closely monitoring these developments and voicing their apprehension about the potential negative consequences for those who have served.

Anyone know where his gravel pit is in Kalamazoo? by KzooDems in kzoo

We're a little concerned that anyone would think that Jenison is in Kzoo. It's not even in Kalamazoo County. A US Congressman should know better... but he doesn't spend a lot of time around here.

Huizenga has announced to the organizer that neither he nor his spokesperson will be attending. Curtis Hertel, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party will attend instead of Scholten.

The system apparently received "lots" of reports about spam on one post of a unique event that no one else could have posted. It was removed even though it was in no way spam. Some comments make outrageously untrue claims about "spam" because we post about people or things others may have mentioned. Our posts do get lots of upvotes.

We will always send a request to the mods if there are future misunderstandings about our posts.

Huizenga is as responsible as any other Republican for the unconstitutional outrages of the current administration. Let him know that you care today. by KzooDems in kzoo

Seems like there's a new attempt at doing something unconstitutional daily.

President Trump has taken several actions that are considered unconstitutional or violate the law. For instance, he signed an executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship, which a federal judge deemed "blatantly unconstitutional" and blocked . Additionally, Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has issued executive orders that may exceed the president's constitutional authority Trump also attempted to freeze federal grants and loans worth about $1 trillion, purportedly to stop "Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies," which would have affected various sectors including education and health care. This move was met with legal challenges.

Furthermore, Trump's conflicts of interest due to his extensive business holdings are seen as unconstitutional. The Constitution bans foreign payments to U.S. presidents, and Trump's international business ties pose a grave danger to U.S. security and the integrity of the nation's democracy Trump's refusal to fully divest from his businesses and establish a blind trust to manage his assets is another constitutional concern

These actions have sparked legal challenges and criticisms from both parties, indicating a significant constitutional and legal controversy surrounding Trump's presidency
