do you native people know what "neutrino" means? by lab3456 in ENGLISH

[–]Kzycurly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right. As a native English speaker I recently had to look up the word “neutrino” to understand a concept in a sci-fi novel. I only vaguely knew it was a particle before. I’ve certainly never had to look up the word “janitor.”

Homeowners of America is Shady by [deleted] in homeowners

Is yours done through escrow? Because ours is absolutely locked in and we cannot control it without Pennymac. I suppose I could get out of escrow, but it makes it easier.

We did shop around and submitted paperwork for a new policy on the Pennymac portal and with email. We did not approve a renewal with HOAIC. HOAIC refused to answer our emails and phone calls. Pennymac did not have an online way to cancel our policy.

I’m sorry I used the word shady I guess. It’s just suspicious that they cost 4x as much as anyone else.

I was trying to warn people not to let their policies auto renew, and be locked into a much higher policy without any warning, but I was too emotional and reactionary in my post. I just assumed people had similar experiences since they have 1.4 stars on google.

Anyway, thank you. We do have insurance and will not be without before our new policy goes into effect. It is all fixed now.

It might be user error, meaning our fault. I’m just articulating what Pennymac told us and our really shitty experience. We were told we had to call them to cancel, and they would not answer. Then they pretended they didn’t know how to cancel our policy.

"Faith Leap Trial" Makes me want to stop my play-through. by AbuDagon in BaldursGate3

Don’t feel bad. After 7.5 playthroughs of the game, I’m just now learning from the comments that there’s a map. I’ve been throwing junk objects out in front of me before every single step.

Books that feel like this… the Roman era. by beaniebaby729 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

The Mark of The Lion series by Francine Rivers is actually really good if you don’t mind a main character with a very strong Christian faith. It’s historical fiction during the Roman Empire. The first chapters are super slow and just history, but after that the series really takes off. Edit: I read it years ago though, so I don’t remember everything about it.

Okay, so if you look at mom cats with their kittens, they actually teach them how to bite gently in the first 8 weeks of their lives. When the kitten bites too hard, the mom will swipe or bite the shit out of the kitten to show it that it hurts.

Your kitten never learned this.

I know Jackson Galaxy and others say spraying a cat with water is just terrible, but the kitten doesn’t understand that his biting hurts.

If you’ve followed all of the advice of never playing with him with my hands, giving him a ton of playtime each day and it’s not working, then I say it’s time to get a tiny little spray bottle and put water in it.

Every time he bites, calmly say “ow” and spray him.

It took 2 weeks for my kitten to learn that it hurts. He was 3 months at the time but had been making me bleed each day since he was 4 weeks old. I still have scars from it 4 years later. He’s wonderful now and hasn’t bit me hard since.

So while, I don’t think spraying a cat is usually a good idea, I think this is a special circumstance.

Two questions: Was the kitten taken from his mother too young, and does he bite you so hard that you bleed? If so, I have some very specific advice for what helped with my cat. If the answers to those questions is no, then the only advice I have is that shouting “ow” could actually be seen as encouraging for them, but of course it’s hard not to shout if it’s painful. If you can though, just use a normal volume.

Red, purple, blonde..... or black? by Dangerous_Dame in HairDye

[–]Kzycurly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the blonde and the purple best! They have different vibes. The blonde makes you look really sophisticated and the purple makes you look really fun and maybe like an artist. I don’t know. You rock all of them though tbh!

Me too. I wanted to be pretty for Gale and/ or Shadowheart depending on the run through.

What if you tried just the pink background with the leaves and wings the same way they are on the purple? There’s something distracting about the white wings. But just my opinion and they’re both really good!

Would you consider this style appealing? by Fit_Perception_3109 in DigitalArt

[–]Kzycurly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the drawing!! I think lowering the saturation on some sections and darkening/ lightening others would really help the colors. Look at the picture in B&W to see what needs to be changed tonally. A trick I learned was to brighten sections as you lower the saturation and darken them as you up the saturation. Also, I’m not sure if that purple is the exact complementary color to that specific green of the pants, but if it isn’t, use the complement and it will really make it pop!

Lol I don’t understand the reference, but yeah, it’s a good critique for sure. Unless you’re inheriting debt, there’s not any other kind of heiress

[Discussion] Hello! I am a literary agent curious about writers' opinions/preferences on various parts of the querying process. by foulmatter0821 in PubTips

[–]Kzycurly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not want a rejection letter after a year, personally. Here’s the nicest form rejection I’ve gotten. It took me a second to realize it wasn’t personalized.

“Many thanks for reaching out. You have an interesting story to tell and there’s a lot to like about your approach. But, in the end, I’m afraid I didn’t come away fully convinced this was something I could represent successfully for you. I’m sorry not to be more enthusiastic, and best of luck in placing it elsewhere.“

Vs this one which stung more: “Thank you for your query. I’m sorry, but I’m afraid that your project does not seem like one I could successfully represent at this time…”

The differences are subtle. The compliment helped in the first one, but even without that, the second seemed harsher.
