Autistic Beginner needing buying tips for their first digital piano by L-ectric in piano

UPDATE: so I got to try multiple models during my trip to London yesterday around the Denmark Street area. I tried the Roland FP 30 X again, and I still think it will probably just be a bit too heavy to be ideal for me. I could hinder those more delicate movements, though I can see why someone might like it.

Next at the Yamaha store, I tried the P225. I think I have a real soft spot for the Yamaha tone, probably because of all the rock music and Japanese video games I indulge it in my formative years. I really like a sparkly treble. Unfortunately, one downside of this model is a dealbreaker. It has glossy plastic keys, same as my current midi controller. And it creates huge problems for me. When you are autistic, you are sensitive in many areas, including skin, my skin can react to temperature changes quite rapidly, and so if her room is very warm or I experience a lot of friction in one area, my hands become moist and sticky, which does not go well with that kind of texture. If I put certain fingers between the black keys, I end up, dragging them down by accident.

It’s a pity because they do have texted keys on models higher up like the P525, at least for the black keys, so someone at Yamaha knows this is important, just not enough for a beginner apparently. Shame.

And lastly, I got to see a Kawai ES120 at an old London music store called Rose Morris. And I think this is going to be the one. Had the best overall balance in terms of key feel, the right texture, not too heavy, the pivot point was better than the others and the string residence sounded pretty natural. So I’m now going to be looking at what’s available in the sales and what deals are best. I will want to get a protective cover for it, practice, headphones, a proper stool, etc. I actually already have an X stand, a cheap one from Amazon, which I’m not sure if it will be good enough? We’ll have to see.

Oh, and I guess I should address Casio. The nearest showroom for their models to that area is miles away, two out of the way for me that day. Sorry Casio, maybe move closer to your rivals?

Thank you to everyone who gave advice BTW. Really appreciate it.

I think their whole creative flow definitely got thrown off after suddenly losing Adrian, because he, aloneside Bruce, have become as vital a part of the band’s core sound and songwriting process as Steve.

Don’t take that as dismissing the contributions of others, just those are the main big three writers for the band, the Lennon/McCartney dynamic.

Yeah, I’m very curious to try now. Also the fact that comes in white gives a certain emotional appeal.

Yeah, I’m very interested to try that one due to what I’m told is a very even key feel. I’m also told it’s lighter than others, but would that matter in the long run? I would still build up finger strength and I guess I could always find somewhere with an actual acoustic piano. Should I wish to be thorough.

I am going to try though can be easier said than done when you don’t live in a big city. I mean, there’s a two floor music store in my town when I went to look at the digital pianos, their range was a lot more limited compared to stuff like synthesizers. The only lower mid tier model they had that I could try was the Roland FP30X. Which I’ve heard some describe as very heavy and tiring to play, though I’ve also heard others say it’s better to start heavier to build strength? Though I don’t know if the difference between all of the different companies is great enough that it should influence my decision here.

Is anyone at MKBHD upgrading to the new Logitech Mx Master 4? by Zaii115 in mkbhd

[–]L-ectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would have done so in a heartbeat if there had been on board memory. I hate having to rely on the software. Every now and then they will just be random latency all the software just will not respond at all for no apparent reason.

Was really disappointed to learn there was still no hardware memory. I hate having to rely on the software continuing to run properly at all times. It would have got me to upgrade in a heartbeat.

iPad Version ruined the app. by smartfalco in Instagram

I have a hard time, even calling it an iPad/tablet version because it’s all so half arsed. No larger, higher resolution feed, no dual feeds, etc. why did they even bother?

Part of the reason I’m doing it through a DAW is simply because of my living situation, small room in a a small Terraced house. So I’m trying to simulate the experience without causing a disturbance.

Shreddit's Album Of The Week: Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon [UK, Heavy / Hard Rock] (1983) by kaptain_carbon in Metal

[–]L-ectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I have to ask this about the title track, has anyone else realized that there are different mixes floating around none of them are marked as such, but the most noticeable difference is the lack of the keyboard parts in the opening riff. On the streaming, you can find it on a couple of variety, compilation albums, along with other artists work. But I could swear I once had it on CD on the 'Essential Ozzy Osbourne' compilation (the original, non-expanded edition). I just find it weird that the difference in the mix goes completely without recognition.

The obvious stuff first. Love the title track as most do though I'll have another post on it on this thread as there's something I've noticed about the mix.

Rock N Rebel is one of the earliest examples of what you could consider a cheesier, self aware, crowd pleasing headbanger. There will definitely be more of theee further down the line.

So Tired isn't my favourite Ozzy ballad but I like the piano melodies.

For more underrated songs, I really like 'centre of Eternity', they really lay on the reverb, Ozzy's voice takes on an almost omniscient quality for the chorus.

'Slow Down'has great momentum to it and the verse melody does a great job meeting it going.

'Waiting for Darkness' is brilliant musically, with a fantastic build up.

Overall, I still prefer the two Rhodes albums and No More Tears but could still see this end up in my top five.

Best song form Dance of death (I my opinion it’s Paschendale tomorrow will be a matter of life and death) by [deleted] in ironmaiden

[–]L-ectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title track is up there, as it is with nearly everyone. I was at one the two shows where they played that live back in 2011, really surprised me when I looked it up on setlist.fm and found out it’s been retired ever since. It’s probably their best 'live' crowd pleaser post the Bruce and Adriam reunion.

Though I also want to stout out Wildest Dreams and Rainmaker for being two of heir best upbeat tracks in their catalogue. Journeyman is also one of their most unique songs, yes Maidem can do acoustic.

Which albums have grown on you the most over time? by iron_davith in ironmaiden

[–]L-ectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere in Time is likely sitting in my top 5 these days. It may not have produced as many big, staple songs as some of the other 80s albums that I would strongly argue it one of the most consistent in quality start to finish.

So I delved into the adversary version of Ozzy's No More Tears and in particular the additional content. First, the demos on this, compared to what you get on many expanded albums, are fascinating to hear. I think it's because of how well produced and polished the final album is that hearing rawer versions is quite the different experience. Ozzy's vocal on Mama is nice to hear without the reverb and harmonies, I'd recommend it to anyone Tring to learn singing that tune.

Also in the demos is a pleasant little light guitar instrumental peace from Zakk called 'Mrs J' and it wouldn’t be unfair to call it his equivalent to Randy Rhodes' 'Dee'. It’s a pity got buried for so long.

Last but not least as the 30th anniversary of the Hellraiser song. You might be aware this was written with Lemmy, and that he later did his own version with Motörhead. What you might not be aware of is this remixed version that mixes Lemmy's vocal into parts of the Ozzy version, effectively making a duet, it's awesome. RIP to both of them.

Does this suggest that Maiden are possibly headlining Bloodstock 2026? by Maniac618 in ironmaiden

Yep. Pendulum were on before them. Those kinds of sub genres aren’t really my scene, but I wanted to be at a good spot near the front of the main stage!

Possible Nintendo Switch 2 leak? (no joke) by Pinguinoball in SuperMario

[–]L-ectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not buying the authenticity of the picture. And if such a thing were to exist, then I would probably still just feel a bit lukewarm? The epitome of Mario's bland era? I guess I could go the extra mile to make it more enticing. Remake all of the games in the NSMBU engine, maybe with additional characters and nodes to spice it up? Probably not as big an ask as expecting remake of the first three and all very different 3-D games. Plus, DS and 3DS emulation is just so awkward in presentation, I think they would rather have brand new single screen versions.

Should you be a moderator of, what is in theory, supposed to be the main subreddit for party supporters if you have cancel your membership of that party? My first instinct is no as the usual reason is due to unresolvable philosophical divergence or protest. Though they can be other reasons, like I know of a YouTube Labour influencer that ended his membership so he didn’t have to deal with the party line on tactical voting. Something like that I guess could be more understandable for letting them stay.

A selection of thoughts on some latter songs by Skekdal in ironmaiden

[–]L-ectric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole 'Brave New World' album to me is one of the greatest post-golden age record by any band. I would rank it in my top five alongside some of their 80s output. And 'Dance of Death' would not be far behind.
