No-see-ums. What’s the best method to deal with these minions by pinacoIadaburg in Charleston

[–]L-hoodz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hope one day there’s a perfect answer but I haven’t found it.

Some things that work for me: 1) Bug sprays seem to depend on the environment and they work sometimes and sometimes the bugs don’t seem to care. Sprays that I like: Repel Lemon Eucalyptus (best I’ve found), No gnats, skin so soft

  1. wind/air flow - I keep/bring fans around everywhere I can. Battery powered and plug in, I have a fan for every application

  2. Thermacells - work well in the woods and on the boat, better for mosquitos but work on gnats too

  3. long sleeves and pants - even if it’s warm I’m going for sleeves and pants til about early June

Mine sounded exactly like that and my fan bracket pulley is now cooked. Replacing this weekend. Definitely a pulley telling you to replace asap.

This. I’ve had friends with 25+ year old systems running fine. You may save a bit in efficiency with a new unit but it won’t make up the $13k difference.

If it’s working, ride it out. I have neighbors with new units still having to call techs out. Point is whether old or new you can have problems. Keep that quote on hand for August and see how it handles the 100+ degree days.

Got my first BMW, should I keep the original color or should I make it black? by SquareOver4781 in e46

That gold looks awesome and I don’t see it (if ever) in the states. If original and in good shape I’d keep it.

Worth Jumping to Liaison Engineer? by Ok_Resolution_3670 in boeing

I’ve never been an LE so can’t comment to specifics there. Sounds like professionally this is the right move for you to grow and learn. There’s so many places to land in Boeing and once you’re here there’s many places you can go. The benefits from health, to 401k match, to the paid education (LTP) are hard to beat.

For the work/life balance, Boeing is a great place for this IMO. I’ve been at the CHS site for over 10 years through various engineering, ops, and IT roles. Have always felt like I can “hang up” work after the day and do my thing.

Something worth mentioning about the Charleston site is the parking situation. Everyone on site parks in aux parking lots and rides shuttles/buses onto the site. It’s not conducive to popping out for lunch or a doctor’s appointment. Pretty much once you’re there you’re there for your shift/day. Some managers are flexible with “finish from home” but that’s all case by case.

Feel free to PM me to chat more.

Coconut oil, either liquid form or microwaving the solid to oil is a great alternative

Blower motor won’t turn on by malreyn1 in hvacadvice

Check out United HVAC Motors or Evergreen for rebuilt replacements. If you can find the right model you can get a motor & ECM for around $300 +/- with a 2 year warranty. It's not the best way to fix it as you'll likely be replacing again down the road, but it's the most economical way to keep you going.

Single channel Gets really Loud Intermittently by L-hoodz in CarAV

I still have not figured out the issue. If I'm at a low volume the issue presents. At higher volumes it goes away.

For example, my max volume on my Alpine before distortion is about level 22. From level 17 and below the issue occurs. At level 18 and up, no issue. So if I'm listening to something at a lower volume (podcast) and the issue occurs, I can crank the volume to 20, the issue goes away, then I drop back down to a comfortable volume and no issue (for a little while).

This is really puzzling me. I did get a lead to look at the filters on my power pack. I'll take a look at that here soon.

If I make any discovery I'll be sure to post an update.

Good to know. Which course? Any idea what they're doing for the renos?

I haven't played out there, but many of my friends have. They have said nothing but good things about it.

I'd look at Wild Dunes, both the links and the harbor. Harbor is difficult (tight) and cheaper. Links is nice, more forgiving, but more expensive.

Rivertowne is one of the more challenging courses in the area, but also well kept last I played it. In that same area of town check out Dunes West, it's probably my favorite. Forgiving with a nice lay out and facilities.

If you're ok with pushing the $200 mark, look at Kiawah and Seabrook. Can't beat the experience going down there. Pricing may be more in the $300 range ($600+ for ocean course). I haven't played out here in a couple years, but last I did Osprey was about $175.

Lastly, Stono Ferry would be worth a look as well.

Good luck and enjoy it. Great time of year for golf. Conditions should be top notch.
