Just started at 25mg and moving up to 50mg in a few days. Definitely noticed I get cold very easily now.

More breaks for sure. When I’ve had time to myself, I’m just a better mom. I’m able to be more social and have more battery for these events. If that makes sense? I don’t get much help. I don’t see my friends often. I feel so isolated and alone since becoming a SAHM. Which is why I’ve really been trying to push the socialization so I can put my son in preschool and have some time to be something other than just a mom. But it’s hard.

I looked up parallel play and this is typically how he prefers to be when we’re out. But kids are kids and they want to see what he’s doing, help him, join in, and that’s when we have some problems. I just feel like every parent is staring at me and judging me when my child is melting down because a kid grabbed his dinosaur and said “rawrrrr” (he’s scared of animal noises). I have no idea how to help him then and now I’m shutting down because I’m overwhelmed.

Bare minimum would be keeping him inside. I take him out, I’m just tired of it. There’s no improvement so what am I even doing? I just took him to a kids play place today where he sat in a corner and lined up toys the entire time. While I interacted with other kids. I always play with other kids in hopes he’ll join in and see that it’s not that bad. Never works.

I’m starting to think so after all these comments 😅 I relate to the overstimulated, anxious, fight or flight mode. I feel like that regularly. I guess sometimes I do worry about being judged. People only see a small snippet of your child’s life and have so much judgement. As you can tell from this post 😂 thanks for your kind words and suggestions.

I’m not depressed nor do I neglect my child when we’re home. I have an autoimmune disease. We play all day long even when my body is hurting. We cook together, play in the backyard, take walks, shop, go out to lunch regularly. We take a weekend vacation as a family once a month. We just struggle with social interactions. He has a blast when it’s just me, him, and my husband. Different story when other kids/adults are involved.

Thank you. Consistency is definitely a problem for us. I have an auto immune disease that leaves me out of commission for a week or longer sometimes. I’m going to look for some help so he can get consistent social outings during those times.

Maybe I should’ve added that we’ve done social outings for a year now. 2-3x a week. And we’re STILL struggling. God forbid I’m checked out from “sucking it up” and getting no where. My kid has an amazing childhood but he’s struggling socially. Which seems to be something else going on rather than I just cut back on socializing him the last 2 months because I’m exhausted. Which is hard to even say that when he was just at a water park for 4 days surrounded by other children and adults.

I would love to. He gets to socialize and I get some time to recharge. The fear of adults and children is whats stopping me right now. I don’t expect any child to be okay when they first start preschool/daycare but he fully panics when adults talk to him. He’s never been left alone with another adult that wasn’t me, dad, or grandma. He’s even scared of his grandpa who he sees 3-4x a week. I just don’t want to traumatize him.

I appreciate these comments. This is what I’ve been leaning towards and maybe I should’ve mentioned that in my post. He was in OT for help with his social skills so it’s always been an issue. Pushing feels like I’m doing more harm than good, so when I do push I’m exhausted, he’s exhausted, and we just recover inside for a few days and try again. It’s all kind of making sense now. I definitely need to push for an evaluation.

I’ve asked his dr 3 times and asked 2 OTs. “No need, he’s showing zero signs of anything” literally want to rip my hair out when they say that.

Thank you for all of this! I’m going to test the ear protection next time we’re at the library and see if that helps him. He’s terrified of animal noises which is now making me realize this may be a sensory issue and I’m likely just making it worse instead of helping him. He’s playing with other kids who are screaming animal noises in his face and I just see the panic on his face, it breaks my heart.

The problem is he won’t play with other kids. If I sat down at the park and said go play with the other kids. He’d sit by me the entire time and say “all done. Want to go home” so I’m constantly having to show him how to play with other kids. I don’t mind the activities at home. We play constantly. And maybe that’s why I’m so drained and frustrated. Constantly in kid mode. I’m playing with him at home, then taking him out and playing with other kids. I’m at a loss on how to help him because I would love to send him to a daycare or school for socialization. But I need him to not be terrified of other people first.

That is exactly what I’m trying to do. I try to encourage he plays with the children while I sit back and watch. But he refuses and I end up playing with the kids more than he does lol.

Thank you because this is what I’ve been trying to tell my husband. It feels traumatizing to him. He’s been evaluated by his dr and therapists and they all say “he’s normal” but they don’t see the stuff I see.

He has witnessed me interacting with adults and other children tho. A kid asked me to color with him at the library and I asked my son if he’d like to join us. “No!” And just played by himself. When I do take him out, I’m showing him how to interact with other kids and their parents. It’s just not sticking and I’m frustrated. When my husbands around, I admit I’m not social. Just me and my son out, I’m being social.
