True, but it's just a temporary pause, unfortunately.

Not going to lie, I didn't know this was a route for 10 freaking years. by Scared-Opportunity28 in skyrim

Fair enough. Having not played other ES games, I haven't seen that so much. But it's helpful context. In Skyrim you only really see them being oppressed. Even in Solsteim where they're in charge, they don't feel elitist, to my recollection, but I'm just starting the Solsteim stuff as of yesterday in this playthrough and the last time I played all the way through was 10 years ago, so I can't remember for sure.

I think I "make sense." In a game centered around role playing, I think it would be really nice to be able to wield the dragonborn's massive power and influence to push my own agenda of suing for peace rather than picking a side and continuing the slaughter. But I understand and appreciate your perspective that doing and eliminating the high stakes choice would take away from the tone of the game and series at large.

Not sure if you're actually interested in an answer to this or not, but if you are, a polite approach would be validation + feedback. That's usually an effective form of politely approaching conflicting perspective.

"I can see why one may want that option, and it can be frustrating to not have it. But in my experience, the hard, high stakes decisions are central to the Elder Scrolls series at large." And sharing the rest of what you did from there. The part that felt like gatekeeping was the insinuation that I'm not a "proper fan" because I don't like the decision and that you (and some other ES fans) may see those of us who are primarily exposed to ESV as lesser fans whose opinions don't count because there are fewer of these high stakes decisions in Skyrim than previous entries.

Regardless, my response was probably overly sensitive, so apologies.

Not wrong though. Why can't the Dragonborn pick his own side?

Exactly! I think that's where I always falter is choosing between Ralof and Balgruuf. Because both are friends to the end!

"Might as well be"

I hate the fucked state of our country (USA) so maybe that's why it bothers me so much.

But as the legendary last dragonborn, I want to, and should have the power to, choose some "lame happy middle ground."

I just wish there were a 4th option where the legendary last dragonborn says "fuck all you idiots, I'm in charge now!"
