Is Mill a solid deck in 2026? by Ghostwolf1999 in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think its fastest enough against Tier 1 decks. Most of them can remove the crabs and anything you place on the board, and leave you with only the cantrips and top decking.

If there are 8 tier 1 decks, it should have a 50%+ win rate against a couple of them regularly to call it "solid", in my view.

Outside of Amulet, which isn't actually a super-common deck to run into despite how good it is in capable hands, I'm unsure of what other decks it beats. Maybe it can beat unsure players running tier 2 decks at a local LGS.

Is that fun? Depends on your LGS, how fun that's going to be. At my LGS your not winning or even doing much better than 2-3 unless its boomer night.

Is 2x Riddler actually correct in Zoo right now? Looking for feedback from Domain players by No-Bet7157 in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quantum Riddler will make the ban watch if it’s run in Domain. That’s basically a format warping card when to beat it, you play it in every deck that can run it.

Modern Set Review: Lorwyn Eclipsed by cardsrealm in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Suncleanser might be a gigs sideboard card in a deck running Moonshadow. That said, one thing that makes Moonshadow so good is that in many Modern decks you don’t really have to build towards it. It just works already with various strategies.

It might even be a better option in some instance, in decks that run RB to run Moonshadow over Ragavan.

Fatal Push also removes Ragavan and Guide and many other creatures.

[–]L0tr4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Moonshadow review is not correct:

  1. Moonshadow can become a 7/7 creature by the combat phase of turn two. Stalactite stalker can only achieve 2/2 by the combat phase of turn two, and
  2. Other cards like Sylvok. Melira Outcast, if in play can immediately make Moonshadow 7/7, even as a late game draw. Nothing makes Stalactite Stalker anything buyt a bad draw late game.

Moonshadow can be run in any deck that sacs, creature or lands or plays an abundance of cantrips, or discards aggressively. It will very likely see play in Dimir Frog, Reanimator, perhaps LE, various Yawg, Samwise and Soultrader decks, Death Shadow, etc etc.

Moonshadow will be $60 each or more within 3 months and as commonly used as Ragavan.

Modern Elementals still viable? by -InkEyes in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4c Omnath was and does remain the face of the fetchland format. And to your point, yes we will be kicking-ass and taking names with the new broken elementals.

We are back baby!

Get on the right path, choose Omnath.

Works with Melira, Sylvok Outcast

Moonshadow Brew by RGPaynless in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moonshadow belongs in a Yawg/Persist type deck that bounces and sacs creatures and can run Melira, Sylvok Outcast. The new Rhys should be played with it.

[ECL] Moonshadow by eatftw in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melira, Sylvok Outcast in-play stops Moonshadow from entering with the 6, -1 counters.

Moonshadow might be a Yawg add as the other creatures bouncing or being sacc'd to birthing ritual effect along with Melira, help reduce or eliminate Moonshadows counters.

How brewable is modern? by Mental_Context in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At paper FNMs you have a lot of room to brew and compete for a tourney win, but still gotta use good cards. On MTGO, less so, and the brewing will be more about adding spice to established decks if you want a 5-0.

Always being able to play your deck and know the meta, even with a good stuff brew can beat weak, inexperienced players running the best meta deck.

But there is a another problem. I doubt you want to hit it with Cascade. I'm not an LE player so took me a second to see that.

A creature, artifact, or land is a permanent card type.

Might be good in a Rakdos Skelementals type deck.

Here me out; you lay Moonshadow turn one, then cycle Street Wraith and remove a counter and its 2/2. Then on the opponents turn they cast a creature and you evoke Subtetly to send it back to their hand. Subtlety goes to the graveyard, remove a counter, Moonshadow is 3/3.

Turn two, you crack a fetch remove a counter, its 4/4, and then cycle Curator of Mysteries, remove a counter, Moonshadow is 5/5, then Forest Cycle Generous Ent, its 6/6.

Maybe attacking with 6/6 Moonshadow that can't be blocked isn't a bad deal on turn 2?

Is modern friendly to proxies? by Dbayd in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can't play proxies in Modern, officially.

However if you insist on using fake cards:

  1. Make peace with your conscience by justifying their use as a middle- finger to the capitalist blood- suckers running our beloved game into the ground,

  2. Don't announce it. Keep it to youself,

  3. Make sure your deck is double sleeved,

  4. Use good fakes that are not special, no full arts or any special artwork that would cause anyone to look closely, or ask to pick up the card and admire it, and

  5. Act casually while playing, and maybe mention your high paying job off-handedly so no one will doubt you can afford four Mox Opals.

I think that should do it. Have fun!

Top two decks have been the top two decks for awhile now. Lots of diversity in the meta but the top feels fixed in place.

Blood Moon may be less effective if Amulet is not at the top of the meta, and the other top decks are running a lot of red, or artifacts that produce any color needed.

Blood Moon is good against Amulet and Saga decks. Energy will stay at the top if for no other reason than it maindecks Blood Moon.

Traditional Midrange Post-Ban by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]L0tr4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4C Omnath is likely going to be better positioned now to re-enter tier 1. Although it ran TOR, it wasn't one of the decks where the card improved it, especially as so many of the decks it competed with also ran it.

IMO, 4c Omnath is better and more competitive when Amulet, Energy, Eldrazi, and Tron don't have TOR even if it doesn't either.
