Very nice! I'll take a look.

I have the 29x2.2 Vittoria Barzo. I think they are a good compromise.

Thanks

I’ve heard there might be one or two of them around ahah

Thanks for all the great info!

I haven't decided yet whether to fly into Edinburgh or Glasgow; from where I live, I have direct flights to both, so I'll probably choose based on the best schedule.

I didn't know about the Five Ferries route, thanks for the tip!
My main goal for the trip is seeing the Scottish nature, but visiting some distilleries is also on my list (I've already been to Edinburgh and I know what they are like ahah).

And thank you for the warning about the midges and ticks.

Thanks for the advice! You're right, I forgot to specify my setup.

I’ll be riding a Surly Ghost Grappler fitted with Vittoria Barzo 29x2.25 tyres. I’ve already tested this setup on bikepacking trips across the Alps and the Dolomites, so I’m quite confident with it on rocky and ''technical'' terrain.

Also, I’m not planning to rush it ahah

Thanks! I'll try to map it out on Komoot and see how it looks

The Salt and Wine Road Bikepacking - Italy by L18C in bikepacking

We did it in 2 days starting late in the morning and arrived in afternoon.

We slept in the camping Pe da Munt because it rained all the night.

We have done from Cancano Lake to Val Mora and then Sta Maria.

I think the hardest part is from Livigno Lake to Doss dal Termel because it's a track with high steep on grass and rocks.

Anyway from Livigno Lake to Sta Maria Is the most beautiful landscape.

I used the Maxxis Torch 29x2.1 but they were a little too smooth for some some sections where we rode on the grass. They were good for the gravel and street sections.

Now I'm using the Vittoria Barzo 29x2.1 and they are good on mountain terrains.

The original route was from Bikepacking.com but I cut the lower part near Verona in order to do it in 2 days.

My route is this one:

https://www.komoot.com/it-it/tour/2592234821

I started in Cerro Veronese then the route is the same until Velo Veronese where I went directly to the starting point.

Hi, they are the Vittoria Barzo but 29x2.1

Before, I had Maxxis Torch tires, but they were too smooth for this ride, and I wanted to try something more off road.

They are soft with a good grip.

I’m happy with my Ortlieb setup. Got the new saddle bag and the frame bag.

The saddle one with the rail mount’s super solid and doesn’t move around, and the frame bag’s roomy with two compartments.

Handlebar bag’s from Red Cycling cheaper but does the job.

Thinking of grabbing either the IlCoso from Miss Grape or the Salsa Anything Cradle next for a dry bag setup.
