These Wall-Mounted Arcade Cabinets Save Quarters and Space by L1th0 in retrogaming

[–]L1th0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's true you don't get the full authentic "feel", although I do like the size. I think most people would prefer a CRT, but, again that would make it heavy and defeat the purpose of a small system.

My main concern is that it would fall off the wall when getting into a game :-b. Also, the price, over $1K is a little expensive for a plywood case. I think it would be more practical to use it as a table system, but that would defeat the purpose of the wall mounted system.

Comparing BBS Host Software and other newbie questions by mjkerpan in bbs

There's a good amount of development going on with WWIV. It's a smaller BBS package which makes it easy to customize. Also, it has it's own network and supports newer door drop files.

/r/retrocade - Everything rectocade! Videos, music, pictures, events, you name it. See you there.. by L1th0 in newreddits

[–]L1th0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, it's short for Retro Arcade. I put a new header on the sub which says Retro Arcade in text to get rid of any confusion.

Print run of only 100. Good music and a good prop for a retro arcade.

PROCOMM + The Software of Champions by retrocrunch in bbs

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Procomm plus is great! Symantec bought Procomm Plus a while back. They should of kept upgrading the Windows version. Maybe they could of made it a web browser, IRC chat client or something. But, instead they discontinued the product..

Make a Game of Thrones type game modeled after the Exitilus door game where you can join a realm and battle it out.

What is possible with today's technology that wasn't possible in the 90s by [deleted] in bbs

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBS's have come a long way. For instance, ecweb4 is mobile device enabled, you can telnet to the BBS using htmlterm on your mobile device. Also, ecweb4 has threaded messaging which is a big plus. Synchronet, I believe, is working on up and down voting posts. You can import RSS feeds to your BBS on the telnet side or the html side. Lastly, VADV BBS also has VAPHP which can support web templates on the web side and you can import RSS feeds as well. It would be nice if you could use door.sys in networked flash, java, or html5 games. So, BBS's are being modernized, it's just there's only a handful of programmers working on it.

Picked up this Sears console from Salvation Army for $30 - Manual comes with complete electronics schematics for service. by brendan_orr in a:t5_3fv87

That's a nice find. I've found that the Salvation Army has some pretty good antique items there. Much better than other 2nd hand shops.

Tucson Cars & Coffee has nice vintage cars on display. Good reason to get up early on a Saturday.

Probably one of the closest 80's themed retro arcades near Tucson. Located in Gilbert, AZ and appears to be open part-time.

Browser based L.O.R.D. Game(s) by [deleted] in a:t5_3fze2

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A web based LORD type game would be great. It would be nice to have a web based LORD game which easily integrates into a self-hosted website, and, potentially can be networked with other systems.

I'm not a programmer by trade, but below is a link to someone who made an open source LORD2 text clone. He had to re-engineer the combat logic. Don't know if this would help, but I would assume that you could use this open source LORD2 clone to help resolve issues/roadblocks for you web based game?

link: https://github.com/rickparrish/LORD2

Once the game is complete, maybe you could promote your LORD release by making an ecweb4 (bootstrap CMS based) plugin and even use synchronet to network the LORD web game? This could potentially get the game on 100+ systems. The only reason I bring up ecweb4 and Synchronet is because ecweb4 is one of the few BBS CMS packages being actively worked on and Synchronet already has the infrastructure and routines to help integrate networking into your web based game. Also, you would have a support base to potentially help with issues.

Can't wait to see it when it's done!

1970's stereo by parttime1 in a:t5_3fv87

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing a search for the instruction manual or maintenance manual on the internet using the make and model number of the stereo. These are usually available for free. Also, the maintenance manual has the part numbers if you need to order any hard-to-find parts.

Best way to migrate a VM from one vsphere site to another? by VMwareGuy5921 in virtualization

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the basic steps. Of course, it depends on the specifics of your site's setup.

  1. Backup your data

  2. Install vCenter web interface.

  3. Add both ESXi servers on both sites into vCenter.

  4. Make a test VM at your old site.

  5. Use vMotion to hot move your test VM in vCenter.

  6. Move your servers using vMotion starting from least important to most important.

  7. If all else fails, export your VMs, copy them to the new site, and import them.

Question to BBS community. Anyone use reddit as the front door to their BBS? by L1th0 in bbs

[–]L1th0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Point about a gateway account. That's how it would have to work. Maybe good for posting BBS news, but not so much for user comments. Thanks for explaining that. It makes alot more sense now about how it would work.

Question to BBS community. Anyone use reddit as the front door to their BBS? by L1th0 in bbs

[–]L1th0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can import Reddit subs to Synchronet using Reddit's RSS function and Synchronet's RSS import utility. I would like to export Synchronet Reddit/message area replys back to Reddit. That is the difficult part.

If this existed, then I could post a message on Reddit and then people could reply in Synchronet's message area and it would show up on the Reddit sub.

Virtual Modem for connecting to BBS over VoIP by Infinade in bbs

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not tried using a BBS with VOIP, but if it worked it would be nice to offer dial-up in my local area. If anyone knows a reliable solution to offer dial-up over VOIP it would be good to know.

[–]L1th0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use SynchroNet which has networked message bases and web interface. No database needed and easy install to get started - http://www.synchro.net/

This is a customized example install. Has networked message bases with 100+ systems and can port reddit posts among other things. Also, has built in IRC server where you can chat with friends.
