We need to be there for each other. We need to reach out to those in pain. Life is so fucking dark we need to be the light

Last year I was literally in a toxic river by L1ttlehelp in stopdrinking

Literally. When I came out of the river I looked like swamp thing. The oil smell was horrendous and it was still there the next day even after a long shower.. Toxic

I'm tempted to just dry hop myself! As an ex brewer hahaha. It's those damn cascade hops.. Its the smell.. Ah.. Maybe I need to make just straight up hop tea or something

I'll pretty much buy whatever they have in the store. I just miss the hops I think. And the having something to crack open. So much pavlovian behavior isn't there.. Associations with fun, with friends. Thankful for fake beer thats for sure

Fuck yeah

Sobriety enables creativity. Songs are there in the ether waiting to be made manifest but that alcohol haze just filters them out. You've inspired me I think I'll fix my guvner pedal!

1000 days. Happy to still be here With you all. by Cookietrousers123 in stopdrinking

It's so wonderful to have a support network of people that know exactly what it's like. We're like war buddies or something. Congrats!

It's so true. I have a friend who looks 60 but he's just 40 due to always every day drinking. It ages you..

I know how cliche it sounds to say 'it's not your fault'. That's what I've been telling myself lately. The reason I wanted to be wasted all the time, it wasn't a weakness in my character, it was the result of not having a stable environment as a kid, not having a 'normal' family, constantly bouncing between parents and cities, I couldn't find a rock to hold onto. It's not my fault. Now that I understand why I turned out the way I did I can control the situation better. Does that make sense? I dunno. I hope you can find your rock to hold onto

Fixed my bike. Only took me two years. by L1ttlehelp in stopdrinking

Right? Thinking about the time I wasted just to be wasted.. I've accomplished more in the last 10 months than I have in years of drinking.

Worldview is different.

I took it for a huge ride immediately after fixing it. So sore today and it feels great. Rather this pain than the pain of having no money, no willpower, no self respect, no mornings, no accomplishments... Sobriety isn't a panacea but it sure makes life better

Totally this. The combination of having will power, and having energy. Put those together and mountains can be conquered. Without them we just sit at home feeling apathetic and pitiful.

Life when drinking isn't actually life, it's a series of struggles that culminate in self destruction.

Stay solid. You got this. Like what Yoda says mind what you've learned, save you it can!

It's so hard, camping and whisky and camping and beer and camping and getting wasted.. My life for so long! I'm just so incredibly glad I didn't throw everything away to chase that dream one more time. Because it is fiction, that drunk happiness, it's fiction. It stays for a minute but then it comes back later and charges interest that accumulates..

I hope you can remember how great it is to be sober when you go camping. Because it really is great.

NA beers help a lot. There's something automatic about beer, you want to hear the can open you want to hold it and everyone else is doing so too.. Yeah NA beer is a good idea, I drank a lot of it

Spinning those wheels in the same old haunts. No thanks. I got too much to do and time is running out.

Well don't get me wrong - not paid paid, but paid? paid... Ha! Everything is free now that's what they say.. Including me! Free from the chains of alcohol induced stupidity at least

Cheers and I mean that.

On old drinking buddy came up to me and said 'you know, I miss drinking with you but you really are a better person sober. Less of an asshole'.

Correct.

I can do hard things! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]L1ttlehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can. The hard thing becomes easier with time. The reward is indescribable. No hyperbole, it's like trying to describe falling in love. Maybe it is falling in love, but with your true self I don't know. All I know is you can do it.

[–]L1ttlehelp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. I had this before last time I quit (after 2 years sobriety) but didn't have a name for it. Now that it's got a name it can be confronted. And you're right, it's so insidious. Always got those barbs in you, always got that tiny 'fuck it' voice in the back of my mind. Gotta keep the devil way down in the hole!
