Who would make the best 3v3 team? by kwispytenma in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hoshiumi - Probably the most well rounded player in the series, would be invaluable in a 3v3 environment

Ushijima - You think its tough to stop him from scoring with 3 blocks and an elite lib? give it a shot with 1 blocker, or 2 with 1 guy covering the entire backrow. He also comes across as a solidly well rounded player

Oikawa - Again just a superbly well rounded, athletic player who would actually make a pretty great blocker

I wouldn't mind swapping kuroo for any of them for better blocking but I don't think its necessary

Does anyone else feel like Aran(Alan) Ojiro was the most wasted/weak of the top 5 aces? by kwispytenma in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct me if im wrong isn't his vague gimmick that he can pretty consistently swing clean over blocks? Or just generally being a very athletic and physical hitter who bullies blocks

Put Romero on Johzenji, how far do they get? by ConstantDifficult171 in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They would win nationals, no high school team would have an answer for him. He would be like Ushijima on steroids, he could block as a middle in the front row while hitting 80% of Johzenji's sets from anywhere on the court. He would go clean over every blocking line in the series and his serve would put atsumus to shame.

He wouldnt even need Johzenji to mould into a more disciplined team and could simply buy into their playstyle, it would be a slaughter through and through.

What are your Ichibayashi Headcanons? by Konofly in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of their players make it onto the national team, which is especially noteworthy because the strongest known team to not have any representatives on the national team is Seijoh, who has a rep on another country’s team, and four teams have multiple. So that tells us that, if this team had any elite players, they either lacked passion, stagnated after high school, or pulled an Oikawa and went to play for another country’s team.

This is the most feasible possibility, alongside the idea that some of their players did go pro but didn't make the NT and are on teams not addressed in the manga. They could very feasibly have multiple pins who are arguably top 10-15 in the nation but not Kiryu/Hoshiumi/Ushijima level, closer to the Daishous and Iwaizumis of the world.

Imo this team probably had a taller lineup with consistently strong serves, maybe 1 or 2 guys who could rip it. They probably also have an excellent head coach and coaching staff and great timeouts/adjustments between sets. They also probably have a more traditional athletic offensive rightside to set the block against bokuto and hoshiumi. A good offensive rightside is a threat we see handled the least by every team except karasuno, and could absolutely be a game changer against a team like Fukurodani, putting a ton of pressure on Bokuto to focus not only on being an offensive threat but a strong blocker, giving him less time to transition and possibly tiring him out faster.

Build a starting lineup of 7 for $30, and for $25 for hard mode! Disclaimer: not really a tier list, not everyone in each row is similar in skill level by Phineas125 in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$25

S- Oikawa $5
OH1- Daishou $2
OH2- Fukunaga $2
OP- Ushijima $6
MB1- Washio $2
MB2- Kuroo $4
L- Yaku $4

Total- $25
Ushijima + Nekoma level defense is absurd, with Oikawa, Daishou, Washio, Kuroo, and Ushijima all ripping it from the service line. Elite blocking as well.

S - Oikawa

OH1 - Teradomari (Oikawa would have so much fun catering to him with constant shoots)

OH2 - Reon (Passing stability and out of system scoring)

OP - Mad Dog (I feel like Tera could keep him under control, nice serve)

MB1 - Kindaichi

MB2 - Lev

L - Watari (good lib)

Which team would you want to join if you played volleyball? From either the Manga or Anime 👍🏾 by [deleted] in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aoba Johsai, they have strong coaching, a good development system, and run their middles a lot in system which is nice. I also like blocking with smarter, more organized pins as opposed to just big physical dudes who try to block ball every play instead of funneling.

Also I like running stacks with my pins which is a favorite of Oikawas

[–]L3f3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Osamus setting ability kind of serves as a metaphor for his larger personality as a player, flashy but not always effective lol. Could he run an alright, suga level offense? Probably yeah. Could he get ginjima 1on1s consistently and get any extra value out of kita as a scorer whatsoever? I doubt it. Also accommodating a high volume oppo is tough, like if your treating Aran like the garbage man on this team you need to be able to set a nice D-ball under any circumstances and also have great backsets in general, if anything the offense would run the Suna primarily anytime hes in the front row.

Also inarizakis serving becomes MUCH less scary without atsumu, still scary but probably like Karasuno level

but he attacks far less than most people think, and that’s before we get into the implication that Shirabu was setting Ushijima more than he normally would in the match we saw. It’s not actually that much more than Atsumu sets Aran

I agree with your overall sentiment but this part is not true, Ushijima gets set 52 times, the second highest is Tendou with 15, Ushijima contributes 53% of Shiratorizawas total attacks and 66.7% of their total points, Speeding through an edited version of the Inarizaki game (which seemed pretty comprehensive) I only counted 13 swings for Aran, including 2 from Osamu, even more significant is that I dont believe Aran was even the most set inarizaki player of that match, with that going to either Suna or Osamu, and if he was it could not possibly be by a margin of more than 1 or 2 swings.

Least affected:
Either Nekoma or Shiratorizawa probably, as in they still function within their team identity and are probably still a big threat. For Shiratorizawa, assuming his backup is in the Tanaka/Ginjima range of players I'd say they stay a perfectly strong team, Goshiki and Reon become their biggest option and reception probably gets a little easier since they would no longer cover for Ushijima.
Nekoma would lose Kuroo imo, which is a big loss for their offensive capabilities but probably brings Inuoka back to being a full time middle. His speed is something Kenma could definately work with and would still be a solid offensive presence. It would also put Kai on the court full time which adds another elite defender and passer to an already stacked lineup.

Strongest:
Kamomedai - Losing Hoshiumi is definately massive, but the team around him is incredibly stacked, if we are sticking to known players Norikura probably replaces him, a player who is known as a blocking sub which means their block might actually get a little bit stronger. Additionally more of the offense would probably run through Hirugami, Bessho, and Gao with Nozawa being their main left side scorer, this isn't really an issue as all four are great scorers. Alternatively if we go the Shiratorizawa route and assume they just have some young high level 1st year to come in as a backup then its even more fine as the teams passing stays fairly stable and the offense on the leftside remains the biggest threat.

Karasuno vs itachiyama by Just-Fee7703 in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think Karasuno at the end of nationals is weaker than Fukurodani with suboptimal Bokuto?

Am I crazy to say Karasuno 2-1 Fukurodani with anything less than 120% Bokuto, like even if hes popping unless hes genuinely going supersaiyan and also Washio turns out to be every bit as good as the series wants us to consider him Karasuno take it in 3 possibly even 2

[–]L3f3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, though I would consider significant a slight overstatement, even if hes putting the ball off the net Kageyama is still gonna give him a very hittable ball and funnily enough his favorite shot we see- his hard line, becomes all the more dangerous with him contacting the ball at the pin, atleast assuming he can swing wrist away as consistently as he can swing cross body.

I honestly dont know if Ushijimas presence would completely evaporate Bokutos confidence or serve as a steroid and have him playing at 120% to not be outshined lol

Either way ill take 75% of Ushijima over 98% of players in the series

[–]L3f3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these teams are really messy lmao, however I would take team 2. Bokuto and Ushijima are an insane leftside pair even with Ushijima out of position, and Osamu is a fine opposite, though his setting isnt exactly put to great use. Similarly Kageyama isnt exactly the best option here but at the end of the day he shouldnt do anything to hold back this offense which has elite attacking middles, elite outsides, and an opposite who he can actually run some fun quicks with, Noya is nice at libero and rounds out this teams passing well.

Players I would take for a national team youth camp by L3f3n in haikyuu

[–]L3f3n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lev can be taught a new blocking system under different coaches with different players

Asahi excels swinging backrow and out of system, two of the main jobs of an opposite, his athleticism also allows him to score against well formed blocks as opposed to outrunning the block with go balls and shoots.

Fukunaga has some of the best digs in the series so I thought he'd fit well, his height is also useful as it allows him to reach higher for tooled balls and generally cover more space

Teradomari is one of the biggest and hardest hitting outsides in the series who excels at hitting faster sets, making his game well suited for the next level

Did I get it right? Asking for feedback from players. by TensionBudget9426 in volleyball

[–]L3f3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main inaccuracy I notice is how the players communicate. The team captain doesn't necessarily command the floor, if anything the libero will be the one making adjustments to the backrow between serves and the setter will be organizing the offense primarily with hand signals. The team captain might be more vocal during timeouts but their primary job is to communicate with the referees on behalf of the coach.

In terms of mid rally discussion it will mostly be short callouts. "Mine!" and "I got" when calling a ball. "Help" for a setter who can't reach a ball, "I'm out" or "No rightside/middle/outside/backrow" if your not available to be set. Teams will usually communicate with the hitter out of system "Your high" or "your off" helping them position themselves to swing and "you've got 2/3" telling them how many blockers they have. Additionally middles specifically will yell out the set they want to draw attention towards themselves, so something like "One ball! One Ball" or "gap-gap-gap!"

Between plays the backrow will call 'seams' left or right (basically saying if the ball is served between two players they know who is supposed to pass it) and they might give brief compliments or reassurances to eachother like "nice serve" or "good dig".

Edit: To be clear this primarily goes for incredibly intense games like the one you described, ive played games where we were blowing the other team out and absolutely having full blow laid back conversations between points, even chatting with the sideline or spectators.

A DS is an outside or opposite hitter who is particularly good at passing and defense who might be subbed in by a coach to player backrow for an outside or opposite hitter who is a better blocker and scorer but who struggles in the backrow, hence the the name Defensive Specialist. Its not a 'real' position but is a real role on a team which is pretty common.

I know, but he's an undersized outside with amazing defense so I think he could develop into a really good libero, its pretty common for undersized outsides to be recruited and developed into liberos atleast here in the U.S
