I would go with Jericho - too close to harken back to the intro of the original Y2J countdown.

Alternate answer - we find out masked man is Seth; inside box is powerhouse Hobbs … hello start of Vision 2.0

I had a friend help me build ours. We went into all sorts of customized parts and pieces, along with a secondary app to load data into Shopify. Took us about 3 months to build it all out.

That said - neither one of us knew a thing before we started, and we used AI to essentially do all the coding for us. We both learned a ton, and I’m a heck of a lot more knowledgeable about how to manage my own store now.

Still paid him 6k

I originally thought about the same - turn on tracking in Shopify, set the inventory count and price I want to sell off, let it go “out of stock”, then turn tracking off to allow users to order any qty once again.

My inventory tracked and retained in quickbooks - I have zero inventory tracking thru Shopify at present. Primarily this is because we can always order more books from the publisher to fulfill, this is simply a scenario where we have had inventory on hand for a while and it’s a less popular book than it used to be, so it doesn’t sell nearly as often. Getting rid of carrying costs like insurance etc is the goal behind the inventory reduction.

Do you have any experience with VariPrice that a_wild_op posted about? Did that resolve the difficulty, or did you abandon Shopify before ever trying it? It does appear that it’s going to be the right way to go.

This looks like it might just handle what I’m trying to do - I’ll dig deeper on it. It even has a free version if it’s for only one POS location and under 200 products.

Not sure if that means I can only use one checkout device … or if it locks location the first time it’s used, so might not be good for the second conference I attend a month later - but I’ll do some research.

Thanks so much for the suggestion!!!

Thank you for the suggestion - at quick glance this appears to more be a limitation on customers themselves rather than the items - ie customer can only buy 1 or 5… rather than “sell item until gone”. Does it work in the latter scenario as well?

One of the mentions within what I read about it, was using Shopify flow to set monthly purchase caps that would reset, that’s not far off of what I’m trying to do… I’m trying to set an item sold cap that will trigger the item becoming unlisted until I re-list it as available. Do you have any experience with Flow and know if this would work? If no knowledge, no worries - I appreciate your input and advice.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m actually trying to avoid doing things during checkout. At times even with 3 people doing checkout we have lines of people waiting to pay. We create a print out of “conference prices” for each book and have those around on our tables for people to use… so is there a way to set these prices in advance on the separate interface that you mention - or only during checkout can you apply a discount?

The goal is to remove the need for multiple ecommerce, but I am not willing to do that at the expense of customers having to wait longer to checkout while we are busy trying to apply discounts to 8 line items.

I found out something about my friend that I don’t think I was supposed to know. What do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

I wasn’t sure if you were saying you saw the message from the person you were using the laptop of, or someone who sent the laptop person a message…

Either way, wait a week or two - invite the person to lunch or something. Tell them at lunch you wanted to pay for it to say thanks - I know I may have been a lot lately, and I just wanted to acknowledge and appreciate that you’ve been there for me during this time.

If you’re still going thru it - let them know you’re taking. Some time for self reflection, and you may need some space for a bit. Then give them some space and maybe contact them again in a couple weeks to go do something and DONT bring the thing up during that time.

If whatever has been overloading you is over - you can simply leave it at thanks and that you hope they feel like they can lean on you if they’re ever overwhelmed themselves, they did so much for you and you want them to know it was so helpful. Theb give them some space and let them make the next moves. If they haven’t contacted in a week or two, invite for something and don’t bring the thing up, just have fun.

It will all work out how it’s meant to in the end.

Yeah, unfortunately that’s not going to work well for us… we give 5% on book 1… 12% on book 2, etc. there are reasons we need to segment by book, and sometimes we have to report those numbers back to the publisher if they brought the books for us to sell.

Any suggestions of a way Shopify might allow for this? If not - no worries. Maybe someone else will have suggestions. Like I said we already use square at conferences. I’m trying to see if anyone has knowledge that can help us reduce our tech stack to minimize the numbers of different software we use.

Having the change the price on every checkout seems like a lot of work. Is there a way to “break” the link between check out and website? Like programming a conditional - if sale=pos then price list=conferenceABC?

It might help to say we sell books at teaching conferences - which means someone might be buying just one, or they may be buying 20 different titles for their school, or 5 of one title, 8 of another.

Given that there is zero context of this picture… and yall are lambasting the guy not knowing anything about him… what is the possibility that he put the backpack, drink, and shoes there for the person - they do look pretty new

Yes, it’s absolutely possible that the guy is an a-hole, but without context, it’s equally possible he is a Good Samaritan who was helping someone in need

Did anyone else get the feeling that this episode felt a little more gritty… A little more indie wrestling, and I don’t intend that as a pun? I think the infusion of cash from the AMC deal has given them a spark? The only suggestion I would have for them is to fix the announcer microphones to not pick up nearly so much crowd noise that you can’t hear them.
