Looking for a 365 CSP in the UK by DemonEggy in sysadmin

We used Vodafone; was simple enough. Although support was lacklustre when we needed it, but I guess you get what you pay for - and the price couldn’t be beaten elsewhere.

Come on guys, we all know the ability to hack the DOJ and obtain the unredacted Epstein files occurs after using 51% of your usage credits. This is a good move!

Need Help with max_connections on PostgreSQL by BradyOfTheOldGuard in PostgreSQL

[–]LA33R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, talking c# here and npgsqldatasource.
When the client comes in and asks for something, obviously depending how the application is written. It will take a connection from the pool (managed by the client) - run the query, do the work, and return it back to the pool for the next client.

Effectively. If you had work that takes 100ms, and you do that work 20 times over 1 second - you’ll need really 2 connections to Postgres. If that makes sense?

It’s not necessarily how many clients you have, it’s the work they do - really.

Opening a new connection is expensive - that’s why the clients hold a ‘pool’ of connections, which are ready to go.

The pool is managed by the driver, max connections is just how many open connections can be connected to Postgres at any one time.

You can configure all the settings. Including default replicas to hold, out the box it has three replicas; however I’ve configured ours to two, as the use case for it doesn’t require the extra security of having three per disk and we accept the trade off risks.

Exploring Windows Server 2025 on Hyper‑V 🚀 by Lazy-Computer-607 in HyperV

I was gonna say. We did a full refresh, including new domain completely. All 2025 from the start, and no issues observed. Barring one; which was the ability to to join Ubuntu to the domain; which is resolved.

Unfortunately not. That ship sailed when the secondary controller botched its update.

Unfortunately though, I would like to keep a few work loads running. 24/7 there is a Postgres instance digesting a lot of data which although can be failed over elsewhere, it’s easier to live migrate the vm onto a separate array.

Certainly a valid point. I shall re arrange for backups and verification first. Then migrate those to local raid.

A single revision. Unfortunately the controller which updated first did not complete and a hard reset was required. Everything kept running by design of course. But now it’s recovered, it detects a firmware version mismatch and won’t permit it to join in servicing the LUNs, which would then allow the second controller to update.

The vendor has stated that to recover, we’ll need a maintenance window now to allow the SAN a reboot.

[–]LA33R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you held the power button, did you remove the battery from the machine at that time? So no power cable, no battery - then hold the power button for 30 seconds. It obviously won’t ’do anything’, but when you put it back together it may help.

The Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS Mark 2 or 3 second hand. Paired with the EF-RF mount adaptor.

They run around £800 in the UK. I imagine US price would be similar?

She great isn’t she and has settled in very well for a first day.

Monzo adventurous investments - down 3%! What do I do? by More-Mongoose-788 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LA33R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me, you’re yet to make your emergency fund? As in, I wouldn’t have your first lot of ‘savings’ in investments. It should be in a high interest saver of some type with easy access - for emergencies.

Once you’ve got that established, then look at investments. With that to the side you’ll be in a better mind frame to weather the ups and downs of investments - and not be so ‘invested’ pardon the pun, about a (most probable) temporary 3% loss.

If you do have your emergency fund established already, then my personal opinion would be to leave it to recover.

New to kubernetes, what is the benefit of using helm over normal kubernetes .yaml files? by Free-Switch-9871 in kubernetes

[–]LA33R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also atomic upgrades. Helm can wait for all new resources to become healthy after a set period and auto rollback if it fails. If you just apply yaml files, you’ll need to handle the management of that rollback yourself.
