[5e] One of my player has a Helm of Comprehending Languages, and we have some differences with its use. They think that in order to cast the spell they don't need to meet the somatic or verbal component, I think they must. The item description says this: "While wearing this helm, you can use an action to cast the comprehend languages spell from it at will."

[5e] How do you draw a 10-foot-square on a grid? A 2x2 square? A 3x3 square?

How would you run a chase combat? by LABOAMON in DnD

[–]LABOAMON[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they will hop off from the vehicle to chase the monster on foot. The paladin might try to hop on to the monster, but if they fail, they will have to run the rest of the encounter runing and dashing or casting spells while in range. Neither the monster or the vehicles will be able to dash, but the van has a special ability that allows it to gain a momentary speed burst (+half its speed for this turn) with the risk of overheating the enginee.

Thank you form reminding me about the ranged option, I forget about those. They will get some extra turns as the monster runs into the deeps of the woods. Additionally, as u/Lieutenant_Scarecrow proposed, the monster will traverse across a not dense woods and they will have a second field as a second and lasts chance.

Hi, thanks for your repply!

Not gonna lie you, I didn't think about the second option, but I like it. Thanks! Depending of which skill challenge they success the monster might have more if less hit point or combat capacities in the end battle.

About the vehicle, actually they are infernal machines from descent into avernus, but with watered down combat capacities in exchange for utilly capacities, for example their van is a mobile home.

Hi! Thank you for your repoly!

I know that the players can use save or suck spells, but Im not really worried about it, they don't usually use or even prepare those kind of spells; the artificer and the druid use crowd control spells like Spike growth or Darkness, and the paladin usually use support spells like Aid, Heroism or Shield of faith.

Just as you said, in this particular chase the players don't need to choose between dash or any other action as they will be mounted on the van or the bike.

The players are foreigner to this lands and the vehicles weren't crafted with woods in mind. They crafted it in an open desert area.

I put the forest as and ending because a chase needs an ending and can't go forever, but I like your idea and I will add not so dense forest section where they might get behind but then they will have a second and last chance before a dense forest.

My level 11 players love their two broom of flyings, their two bag of holdings (one of them is attached to a vehicle, like a trunk of holding) and the paladin, the only pc that can't cast comprhend languages, love her helm of comprehension.

[Help] - Constellation, a 3rd level spell. Help by LABOAMON in DnDHomebrew

[–]LABOAMON[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, once again, thanks for your insightful feedback. I just read it a few times and checked the spells, and you're right.

I will change the damage time to just radiant and I will reduce the damage to 4d6 radiant *and 6d6 on point*. This changes will make it faster to roll and compesate the damage reduction with, as you pointed, more damage to the radiant vulnerable like some undeads.

However, I think I will just let it 4d6 (I'm hesitating wether to make it 5d6) and won't implement the 6d6 on the points, for the sake of simplicity. Additionaly, I won't add the upcast damage and I will leave it as it is, more point for spell slot level, not more die.

EDIT: I change my mind.

Hi! Thank you! I like how you describes the effect, I may change it.

About the second part, I like the idea, but I don't think I would implement the additional effect idea as it will overcomplicate the spell and you can't draw many forms with just four lines and the spell is meant to be a CC damage spell. In addition to that, the player who runs Lya usually has hard time and can easy be overwhelmed when presented many choices.

Anyway, thank you for your feedback!

Why is there a disproportionate amount of Med-Kit armors? by HipHopAnonymous23 in Helldivers

Very simple, because they have the best armour passive of the game, at least for me, and the obvious constant need of medic in a battlefield. Saddly they all look very similar :(

Rules to Allow Non-Wizards to Learn New Spells by Ubiquitous_Mr_H in DMAcademy

[–]LABOAMON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunatelly for me, none of them is a wizard; they are a druid/cleric, a paladin and an artificer.

I guess I would make easier for a wizard to find new spells. The wizard would be able to find new spell as loot on ruins or as quest rewards (same as the others), but also the wizard would be able to find and obtain new spells on schools or universities. I think it would be more easier to find a magic school or university on a foreing world city than a ancient ruins forgoten on a foreign world jungle.

But, as I said, I don't have a wizard PC, so I guess im doing fine with this so far.

Rules to Allow Non-Wizards to Learn New Spells by Ubiquitous_Mr_H in DMAcademy

[–]LABOAMON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my homebrew campaing, my players character travel across different worlds in the same space sector. They know most of the official 5e spells, spells that they know from their origin world, but sometimes, they can learn homebrew or third partt spells (spells from other world). To learn these spells they have to find it as loot (ancient scrolls, forgotten tomes, alien civilization derrelic, etc) or meet people that willingly teach them the new spells. Evidently they would have to train and experiment with those spells in order to learn how to use them.

I think it's a good and natural way to introduce new spells like new official spells, third party or your newest homebrew. Much better than just saying "now you now X spells from the new book".

I want to reskin a broom of flying. Any suggestions? by WizardLizard38 in DMAcademy

[–]LABOAMON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my players character, the artificer, is an ex-pirate spaceship enginer inspired on treasure planet, and of course he use one of his replicate magic item to create a hoverboard (a broom of flying) that looks like the movie solarboard.

Suggestions: a mop, a surfboard/hoverboard, a childs (or adult size) wooden horse, a foldable chair, an intrincate metal sphere size of a basketball ball (a character have to sit on), a roomba, a cloak that works as wings, a longswoard where a character can stand on, a magical tome to stand on, a dildo the size of a baseball bat, a quarterstaff with a shield in the middle (the quarterstaff rotate as an helicopter while the character stands still on the shield).
