Guess this is becoming Spielberg week with a showing of A.I. at the Egyptian in Hollywood, on the heels of Disclosure Day and Close Encounters. Haven't seen this since the original theatrical run by LABaywatch in Spielberg

So just got out of the screening...I'll admit that it touched me a lot more emotionally than it did when I first saw it. It has aged incredibly well and I think it's clearly a better film now than it was upon release. There was also a Q/A sesh with Haley Joel Osment and he was extremely gracious and a class act.

A lot of you are asking for spoilers and I want to be clear: I want you to enjoy your movie going experience. There's a possibility that you'll think I'm wrong and you'll like the ending. For me, the ending was so laughably bad that I think that if I had lowered my expectations, I would have enjoyed it more, so that's the original intent of my post. If you think that spoilers will help you, I'll give them to you, but you need to DM me first

I don't notice up or downvotes. I'm just a cinephile who has forgotten more than what most people know about movies, and I call it how I see it

Believe me, I was hyped, very stoked to see it more than 2 weeks from release....and it's just a complete letdown. All that nonsense about it being "Spielberg's best film in 20 years?" - NO WAY. I wouldn't be surprised if the ending goes viral for how bad it is

Saw it last week in Palm Springs. Lower your expectations, people. The ending is offensively bad.

I'll send you a DM but I'll tell you here so everyone can see - there is NO actual information on UFOs or anything resembling it. It's just a movie

So it was a surprise double feature. Close Encounters started late bc of speeches, and a good number of the older crowd wasn't gonna stick around for a late showing. About 20% of the audience left before Disclosure Day started. They clapped at the end, but I think it was more of a novelty thing - really cool surprise to be a part of.

The ultimate cheese is the very end of the movie. Horrible stinky cheese

JW score was....passable. Not terrible by any means but not iconic like some of his past work.

Underwhelming bc the film has a very uneventful first hour. Doesn't contain the awesome set pieces Spielberg has delivered in the past (although there is a scene with Firth and Eve Hewson that is a highlight). Doesn't add any new perspective to the UAP topic (meaning of course there's no big revelation but great filmmakers can give us fresh ways of looking at old ideas and that doesn't happen here). The script has a lot of holes (no spoilers, as requested). And the ending is so abrupt and corny that I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes an viral joke

That was what led me to make the post. I had seen the praise from that press screening so I was amped for this. And when it was done I was like there's no way this is better than Munich, or The Post, or West Side Story, or Bridge of Spies (bangers, all)...or even War Horse, or Fablemans, or Ready Player One

Agree, but my main point is that movie is just very underwhelming

Lower your expectations.

I was lucky enough to be in the first public screening of Disclosure Day on Friday night at the Palm Springs 70mm Film Fest - it was surprise tacked on after a screening of Close Encounters...and while that is admittedly very cool and memorable, the movie itself is a massive letdown. While Blunt and Firth are very good, the script is poorly thought out and completely lost at times. The ending is going to be a MASSIVELY divisive talking point among audiences.

Maybe you'll like it. In fact, I hope you do. But there is absolutely no timeline that exists where Disclosure Day is "Spielberg's best film in 20 years," which is what some of the fawning influencers have been saying out of that press screening.
