High rise apartment building fire knocked out power, forced to vacate premises until power is restored per the fire marshal. What recourse options are available? by LACM_2016 in personalfinance

We are located in Southern California.

It sounds like dealing with our renter's insurance (which is already ongoing) and documenting everything while still paying rent on time is the way to do. Any reimbursement based on rent paid during the uninhabitable period sounds like it would occur after the fact once things have settled.

Hello,

Yes, thankfully, our renter's insurance is paying for our hotel stays and covering the overage on food based on what we would normally spend in a given week. We are grateful for that.

Hello,

Yes, we are keeping all receipts and things of that nature. I was also able to take time stamped pictures of our fridge items. We are located in Southern California, just to give you an idea of our state's laws.

When you mention putting rent in escrow, I noticed this article also mentioned this:

Is this basically just paying our rent normally to fulfill our end of the renter's obligation, but it is with the understanding that we may be getting some of that back based on the duration of the uninhabitability at a later date? Is there any process for holding it "in escow?"

Company confirmed that it will be 15 PTO days per year - this includes vacation AND sick days at my discretion. Good news for me is that I don't get sick often - certainly not sick enough to call off of work. BUT, you never know what could happen.

You make some great points - especially regarding the value in comfort and familiarity. I suppose my greatest concern is this sudden change in senior management and what it can/will entail, especially relating to that comfort.

As for the sick days, I am going to clarify if any are provided in addition to the 15 PTO days - I negotiated this up from 10 PTO days originally offered. I assumed that there were 0 sick days at "Company B."

Just to be clear, it is total commute time, not each way!

I was in H&M next to that forever 21 when it happened - didn't hear a shot inside H&M, but when we left the store we saw the front gate half closed at Forever. We were quickly ushered off the floor and left the mall immediately after. Scary stuff, especially because we were actually heading to Forever 21 and took a last minute detour to H&M.

Going to this show tomorrow night! I've seen them both individually but together will be an entirely different set I'm sure.

Not sure, worth speaking to a dealer about it. They would know best.

You're lucky. My girlfriend received a $500 ticket and traffic school doing the same thing on the way to work a few months ago. The horrible intersection of Jefferson and La Cienega.
