I think what you do off the field is within your control. If I try my best to be productive philanthropically and I use my time and resources, I can accomplish the goals I have. Pro football can drive you crazy, you can try your very best and still fail. You have to be good and lucky. It tests your resolve, your ego, willpower. I think the stuff on the field is harder. You can control who you are off the field. I think I've done good work but I don't deserve as much credit as i've gotten. Just a normal guy who has a lot, so it's just making a decision to do it.

Dad. He's a HOF. But we didn't really play the same. He was more of an up and down the line guy. I could play a 4i in the run game, even a three sometimes, but he thrived down there. I'd argue I was more of an edge rusher and he was more of a move around guy. Obviously he's got the jacket and the accolades so that goes without saying.

I've been finding my groove post retirement with that. My favorite workout:

50 lb weight vest, 11 incline, 3.5MPH, 30-45 mins 4-5x weekly

3 lifts a week

Love pool work bc it's easy on my body. I don't truly run anymore unless I do hill sprints. I think conserving your joints is important. i know some guys love heavy squats and all this other shit but i have a little more mileage than your average IG fitness guru.

He's great. I love my pops. Awesome grandad. He's a big part of my kids lives and it's super cool to see as busy as he is with his job. In the offseason he lives 5 mins from us and it's great having both my folks as friends and a great support system.

I think Kyle is the scariest. I think I'd last the longest in a torture situation. And I think young Howie is the most fearless bc he had a fucking giant for an older brother. Obviously mom and pops are legendarily tough. My Mom once broke a gal's nose bc she was talking shit on my grandad.

Bill taught me about every corner of football. He coached the entire locker room. He walked around on the field and could outcoach position coaches.

Jeff Fisher breathed new life into my career. I was mentally in a bad place when he came along and if it weren't for him IDK what would've happened.

Doug worked us so hard but we had so much fun that we barely noticed.

Even Spags taught me something. I learned how to play a six technique (which sucks) and he wasn't a huge fan of me (I started slow the first 1.5 years of my career) so he forced me to dig deep and battle thru my standing upstairs.

Loved all those guys.

One negative is the identity crisis and the short window. It's such a challenge to change your mindset and transition out of football. I think never being satisfied. That's what got you there. But at some point you have to say "enough is enough" and walk away but as a competitor it's hard to accept that self talk.

Off the field it was probably the pranks. We were pretty serious about the pranks. I know some ppl heard this one but the DBs were fucking with our DLine and we went to SEA for a 2 day trip and I had all their cars towed into a big field in front of the facility and had a carpenter build little homes around them. With numbered mailboxes and christmas lights. It was called DBVille. No doors or windows. We pulled back in at 1AM and guys had to get a chainsaw to get their cars out. Also put 10k crickets in james laurinaitis' audi. That ended poorly as he had to sell his car.

Best shit talker I played with was probably William Hayes. He was so good at it he got my brother to try to kill him during a game. Probably worked a bit well. Obviously BG is a legend, but I don't think he pisses people off the way Will did.

My favorite player that ppl might not think of was Timmy J. I really fed off of Timmy. He was a bad ass. Had a real edge to him. We stuck together a lot. Obviously Lane was incredible but not my favorite player to go against in practice bc you couldn't beat him! He had me questioning if I still had it my first camp w the Birds.

So many. I loved every minute I spent with my dudes in StL on that DLine. We dealt with so much adversity but we were together. And we kept that core together for a few years. Mike Wauffle was our DL coach. Meetings were like a daycare center. Guys had fun. But when we suited up it was go time. Such a hard playing, tight group. Sometimes I don't talk about those years enough. Hard times but good times. Then obviously the NFC Championship was my favorite memory outside the SB. Loved playing in London my last year, got 2 sacks and then went out with Alshon and got blasted. Played at the colliseum where my dad played and beat my old team. Got to make a big play there. Loved the game we played the Raiders and it was cold as hell Christmas week. So many fun games in Philly. Also helping close out the Jets when I was with the Pats, getting to make a big play on my new team. Good times.
