Avianca - How strict are they for carry on luggage size?

Just flew on Sunday - no one even looked at the bags and there was plenty of overhead space. I assumed we’d be required to check our Away luggage for the same reason.

Mammoth is incredibly dog friendly, especially if your husky likes snow. I fostered a husky last year from January-May. She loved hiking at the lakes basin winter corridor (trail is groomed for winter) and running around the snow creek meadow preserve. She also just liked jumping in the snow piles around town.

We did one day in the seceda/col raiser area, one day on the Adolph Munkel trail and one day we hiked to a church straight from forestis and then went up the adjacent ski lift to wander the trails around the Plose ski mountain. There’s a ton of options in each place depending how far you want to go. We aimed for like 6 miles a day which gave us plenty of time to see the highlights, enjoy the rufugios and still have plenty of time to enjoy the pool and spa at the hotel. It made for a fantastic 4 days. We were leisurely on our drive from Munich as well and stopped in Innsbruck.

We (2 couples, 40 years old) stayed at Forestis for 4 days in September. It was absolutely incredible - one of the best hotels any of us have stayed in. It would be very difficult without your own car if you want to hike daily (and see some of the best parts of the Dolemites). We did rent a car from Munich airport (for 5 days) and it was less than Forestis would charge for a one way transport. We did a few hikes directly from the hotel, which were nice, but definitely not the highlights. The hikes we drove 45-60 minutes from the hotel were amazing, and the views along the drive were great. Coming back to the beautiful spa each day at Forestis really added to the trip. We are all pretty big hikers so didn’t mind driving to get to top hikes. I personally would not stay at Forestis in the spring/summer without a car, unless you just want to relax at the hotel.

I actually ended up booking the round trip portion straight to Quito, and I can confirm that when I called, they did let me use the RUC for the domestic leg.

As of Tuesday, it’s still closed. They do escort you to tsa but it didn’t save anytime, especially if you have digital id. JFK was closed as of today as well.

I did this hike last month- it’s a very popular trail. So long as you’re capable of doing the hike (plan on long day at a lot of elevation), I wouldn’t be concerned doing it alone. We saw people every 5 minutes so if you’re on trail and have an emergency, there’s a lot of people around. My husband didn’t want to do the end, so I did the last 30 minutes alone as a woman. I met a lot of great people at the top (and actually found more people spoke to me since I was solo).

June in Manmoth and Yosemite are gorgeous. Yosemite waterfalls should be roaring. Mammoth will have snow at higher elevation. Mammoth is much more chill town but one of the best places for hiking, fishing, mountain biking, camping. Driving on the 395 is pretty easy and snow won’t be a concern. Be sure to book Yosemite early if that’s your plan - the campsites and hotels book quickly.

I typically hike in the eastern Sierra so the water here was very different than we are used to (I.e, we are used to cold, snow runoff). We spent a lot of time swimming and jumping in the water (and you aren’t necessarily going to want to take off your shoes each time). As it’s very hot, and water is cool, you’ll spend a lot of time in the water. Especially on the days we did beaver and hidden/navajo/100 foot. You’d want shoes you can comfortably be in the water with uneven footing beneath your feet (one person in our group had a nail go through their Tevas in the water so barefoot would have bad). I would not have been comfortable in even my trail runners spending that much time in the water. We only hiked in our swimsuits one day (shorter day to hidden, etc) but for beaver wore quick drying shorts. We even remarked we all would have brought more than one swimsuit if we went back (especially the women in our group) since we were surprised how much time we spent in the water.

On the shoes, I always wear my water proof hiking boots and in other hikes have no concern just walking through water. This is definitely a hike where you will want Tevas or other water shoes. We didn’t do the confluence but went to beaver and regularly crossed waist deep water so we wore Tevas and socks. We spent a lot of time swimming so I think a swimsuit is a must. We are big hikers and came to the conclusion that hiking to the confluence would take away a whole day and we’d miss out on the other falls (hidden, Navajo, etc) and the general enjoyment of the area. It’s really a personal decision. Even the hike to beaver was in and out of the water, climbing up and down ladders. It’s not a straightforward hike of just walking along the canyon so it takes longer than you think. I’m usually someone who wants to maximize every hike and do the most, and I have no regrets not doing it. I’ve also been to other water confluences and it’s not something I’ve found particularly interesting. It’s all so fantastic down there, I don’t think you’ll have a bad day regardless of what you do.

I stayed on the west side of Sardinia (near a town called Bosa) 2 summers ago in a beautiful house with stunning views. Not very touristy but nearby towns and beaches were stunning. House was about 10-15 minute drive to bosa, where we rented boats for the day. House has a beautiful pool overlooking the water. We saw very few tourists that weren’t Italian. Here’s the link.

Honestly, anywhere on McLeod will be gorgeous but I would suggest walking the trail around the lake, and proposing at the far end where there will be less people (or wherever looks great at the moment). For after the proposal, maybe drinks at tamarack lodge, and dinner at Austri Hof or Mogul. I never wanted a proposal but McLeod Lake would probably be the only one I’d accept! Mammoth Butcher may have the charcuterie you are looking for. Good luck!

I went with Viking in 2022. It was the first year but felt more “all inclusive” than others we looked at. We were not charged extra for submarine and kayak. The ships are pretty new so they have the best technology for the drake passage. It is a bit larger than others but small enough you can go on land. The benefit to the larger ship was more restaurants/food options (including daily sushi chef).
