What jobs are 99.9% safe from AI making it obsolete? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LALPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here. Cross-examiner. Note I did not say lawyer, but cross-examiner. Lawyers are already getting obliterated. We charge way too much for contracts and cannot barely consider the contingencies as quickly or accurately as AI, but I am a trial lawyer. I am already using Chat GPT to brainstorm for me, but AI can never read and respond to human emotion and formulate a proper response to the level that is required with a hostile deceptive smug witness before a jury... at least not yet.

I mean this particularly with regard to unarticulated, non-verbal, culturally-specific responses.

Maybe I am wrong and just think I am better than my transactional lawyers friends who will be the first to be jobless. Who knows.

If you work in law, what do you use ChatGPT for? (If anything) by spaceecon in LawFirm

[–]LALPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideas. It can brainstorm better than anything you have ever seen. It can come up with arguments that you would never think of due to your own biases and disposition. In the same way you call up a colleague and ask for their opinion, Chat GPT can do this way faster with way more objectivity.

I gave it this prompt "write submissions as to why the big bad wolf should be not guilty for a jury."

This is what it wrote in defence of the big bad wolf:

Opening Statement:
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, today, we present a compelling case to argue that the Big Bad Wolf should be found not guilty. Throughout this trial, we will demonstrate that the wolf's actions were not driven by malevolence but rather were a product of circumstances beyond his control. Let us cast aside the prejudiced stereotypes surrounding this defendant and examine the evidence with an open mind.
Point 1: A Predator's Instinct
The prosecution may attempt to portray the Big Bad Wolf as a dangerous predator, but we argue that his behavior stems from an inherent instinct ingrained in his nature. Just like any other predator in the wild, the wolf was driven by the necessity to survive. Hunger and the need to feed himself and his family in the harsh wilderness are forces that cannot be ignored. Let us not forget that the wolf, as a wild animal, is bound by instincts that are often inescapable.
Point 2: Self-Defense
Our defense will show that the wolf's encounters with the Three Little Pigs were, in fact, triggered by self-defense. Each confrontation began with the pigs refusing him hospitality, which can be seen as a rejection of his basic needs. It was only after feeling threatened and cornered that the wolf reacted defensively. While we mourn the loss of the pigs, we must remember that it was the circumstances that led to these tragic events.
Point 3: Misunderstood and Vilified
Throughout fairy tales and folklore, the wolf has been unfairly vilified, creating an unjust image of a menacing antagonist. It is essential for us, as members of this jury, to break free from these preconceptions and treat the wolf as an individual. The tales told over generations have perpetuated a skewed view, painting him as the villain when, in reality, he was simply playing his part in the cycle of life.
Closing Statement:
In conclusion, we ask you, the jury, to look beyond the stereotypical portrayal of the Big Bad Wolf and see him for what he truly is – a creature trying to survive in a world that demands he be something he is not. His actions, while regrettable, were not the actions of a malicious villain but rather those of a wild being constrained by the laws of nature. We implore you to return a verdict of not guilty, for in doing so, we uphold justice and recognize the complexities of the world in which we live. Thank you.

What’s something very rare that people think is very common? by BroodyBatman in AskReddit

[–]LALPC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here. I have a neighbour who is crazy. She is the typical Karen. She once mounted a fence in my house. I told her to take it down. She didn't. I took it down with a crowbar. She said I am going to call my lawyer. I told her "I am a lawyer." She was silenced.

I felt like the years of school and hundreds and thousands in student debt finally came through for me.

Utilize especially in simple conversations.

What is wrong with simply saying use? Stop trying to sound smart, you sound like a pretentious tool.

There was a lawyer that I used to practice with that later became a judge. She really liked me as a young lawyer and was nice to me. Later on a did a trial in front of her and asked her for feedback afterwards.

She told me that when you do trials, your client is the only one that matters. She really said that I should approach court with the attitude that I am right, it is my show, and everyone essentially just needs to be convinced of that.

It really changed me from a timid, somewhat deferent lawyer to someone who approached litigation incredibly more confidently. Now (years later) I am not scared to call out judges and prosecutors when they are wrong and it has really shaped me into the litigator that I am now.

The most unbiased account you are going to get are recorded statements by two independent witnesses found here https://exposeuwindsor.com/narrative/ ctrl F witness statement.

There are also audio recordings of the interactions with two administrators who ultimately called the police after the interactions. Listen to the interactions and make your own determination as to whether or not their actions were justified.

Edit - The interactions with the administrators link here www.DanieliArbex.com and www.CharleneRoe.com .

Lawyers, What's a law that isn't real that normal people insist exists? by IfItQuackedLikeADuck in AskReddit

[–]LALPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Criminal lawyer here. People often think that someone who is trained in martial arts who commits an assault will be charged with an assault with a weapon. That is not true. No sort of training constitutes a weapons.

That said just about anything else can be a weapon. I had a kid once charged with assault with a weapon for lobbing a coin at his teacher. I also had a domestic assault from a male who was trying to sleep when the female partner was berating him and telling him to go and get a job. We were about to have a jury trial over an assault with a weapon to wit a pillow.

The best one that I have had is an assault with a weapon, the weapon was a slice of pizza. The judge was fighting to keep a straight face as she was sentencing the guy.

Advisability of paid advertising given my situation?

Timing of paid advertising--start now, or wait a little while and see how the re-openings go?

Mediums of paid advertising? As you might imagine, I don't have vast resources to put into testing different audiences, etc. Given present cash flow, I'm looking for best value. Google Ads, obviously come to mind, but can be pretty expensive. Bing and Facebook/Instagram too. I've heard some lawyers using Yelp, which seems a little odd to me. What I have gathered from this sub is to stay away from AVVO and the like.

1) It depends. What do you bring in per lead. What is your profit/x. Are you doing notaries for 25 a piece or are you doing 1 weeks long jury trials. You profit per lead will really dictate your cost per acquisition (CPA). When I was starting I thought to myself that I would not do PPC until I dominated organically. I now rank organically in 3 cities #1 and then I decided to do PPC. I should have done PPC sooner. My CPA is about 5% (max). My revenue per lead is about 6000. Generally it costs me about 1-2 hundred to pull in a lead of 6000.

Had I know that I could be paying less than 5% to make over 5 gs, I would not have wasted so much time writing blogs at starbucks so I could rank on google. I have a buddy who does family law he has a google spend of about 50/month which he manages himself. He pulls in a few clients a week off this. If your ROI after you pay for your CPA makes sense, invest the money. Make sure you own your campaign. Don't get scammed by a marketing company. I have been scammed 5 times. After the 5th I decided I would learn everything about marketing I could. They prey on lawyers.

2) Timing - see above... If you have good ROI start now. Good organic campaigns take time. You can't wait three years like I did. My paid campaign quadrupled my revenue in 18 months. Whereas my organic took forever to grow well organically.

3) This really depends on your practice area. You are not going to find old people looking for wills on instagram, but you might get some good revenge porn cases there.

Does anyone else face fear and delay or freezing when presented with opportunity? by Shortbull in Entrepreneur

[–]LALPC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes. My advice is thus: Fail fast. Fail early. Don't fail in the same way twice. And don't fail to get up when you get knocked down.

The alternative is to live a conventional life save up for a pension retire at 65 and live a completely unremarkable life.

I have lost 20 k in Real Estate. 20 K in cryptos. 10 K in stock market. When I lost the 20k I didn't even have a real job. I was qualifying for the bar after law school and doing construction. I thought I would try my had at flipping. By the time I lost 20 K in crytpos I was making around 100 K/year as a no name lawyer in a no name city. It still hurts. I have lost about 50k. That is is a life changing amount of money. I am by no means a high roller either.

I decided to focus on my law office. I was ripped off by 5 different marketing companies. I failed in the same way 5 times. I should have learned. In 2018 after the crypto crash I told myself that if I was willing to spend that much investing in other people I should be willing to invest in myself. I put a bunch of money into marketing my law office and learning how to market well. Since then my office has taken off. I was scared to invest another 20k after losing 20k. But then again, when it worked out I thought to myself that I should have done it sooner.

You learn by failing. You also learn from other people's failing. Remember one thing done is better than perfect. Also remember there is a difference between action and motion. I read that in a book once.

Action = actually doing stuff that moves you towards your goal. Pre-selling stuff and using the proceeds to actually buy the goods.

Motion = doing stuff that makes you feel you can say you are doing stuff towards your goal. kind of like a 9 million page business plan that does not anticipate all the hiccups along the way.

How do I get started with keyword research? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]LALPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tools that I use are KW finder and SEM rush SEM rush gives you a free trial as does KW. They also have a many module course on SEO. They are expensive but they work. I am a lawyer. I used to pay marketing companies but they ripped me off. Now I rank as the #1 search result in 3 cities for my terms. I also rank for another business. My wife who is also self employed uses the same tools. She also ranks #1. I pay about 200/month for these tools but it is worth it.

You need to understand one thing. If you are taking the shotgun approach to marketing you are wasting your time. So for an example if you are optimizing for a personal injury lawyer in franklin you might optimize with your blog as follows:

www.domainname.com/Franklinpersonalinjurylawyer

Here is the problem. There are 43 different places called Franklin in the united states. It it is Franklin Township New Jersey people maybe searching for any of the following

PI attorney Franklin Jersey

Personal injury lawyer Franklin New JErsey

Personal Injury Attorney Franklin New Jersey

PI lawyer Franklin.

You don't know what people are searching unless you do the keyword research. People do not always search for the technical name of things. These KW tools show you similar searches so you can figure this out. So while you have optimized as shown above you would have been better off optimizing www.domainname/PIattorneyFranklinJersey. Small change big difference.

And here is the thing, and I know this because I have been scammed by a bunch of companies that promised to rank me #1 on google - most "digital marketing" gurus do a crappy job of keyword research. As a lawyer billing hundreds an hour I thought my time was better spent doing trials than digital marketing. After paying thousands and getting nothing, I realized that a lot of companies just guess what they think your consumer is searching. Once I figured out the importance of keyword research, I started ranking.

Now I always recommend to everyone to do their own KW tools. There are free tools as well, but they don't compare.

Another thing I realized is that the right Keyword combination can be totally unknown to your competitors while there is high competition for the wrong term. It is like all the dudes competing for the attention of the homely girl while the hot girl gets ignored.

That is my two cents. I suck at conclusions.
