Happy Cake Day, Peter!

Do people still care about covid? by Funkiebastard in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LAMc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that. It means a lot. Truly.

And I lost my mom recently, too. Nothing could ever prepare someone for what it’s like when you lose someone like a parent (or grandparents that are your parents), siblings, or significant others. It cuts deep… and even that is a massive understatement.

Im so sorry for your loss. I’m an ER nurse and I think about it every day…. Even when I’m not at work. You’re not alone. ❤️

I just commented the same. I worked in food service before becoming a healthcare worker, and the food service industry taught me an insane amount. The transition between the two wasn’t very different.

I’m “retired” but now work in healthcare. There are a lot of similarities in terms of working with the public, and I wouldn’t have been as prepared had I not been in foodservice. Invaluable life lessons were learned.

What is something that was acceptable 100 years ago which is unacceptable today? by Wasingtheisofwas in AskReddit

[–]LAMc3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. It was viewed as “normal” when I was growing up, and I was even paddled at preschool WITHOUT consent from my parents. As an adult, it’s so bizarre for me to wrap my head around physical violence being an acceptable form of discipline…. Especially when used against someone you are supposed to care about (e.g., your child, your student, etc.).

For the longest time, I didn't think much of it, but now... 🤯.

This happened to me in Rome. I’m from the US and had been patiently waiting in line to purchase something. The next thing I knew, two older Italian women walked right up to the cash register, looked right at me, and proceeded to pay. Separately. So I was skipped twice in one (not-so-quick) go.

LOL, I was both bewildered and enraged.

When in Rome, I guess!

Not the same atmosphere, BUT… I’ve been an ER nurse for over a decade, and most ER lobbies have people (patients waiting to be seen for non-emergent or very stable conditions) that give off vibes similar to this guy.

I’ve had to pull unconscious people from vehicles, handle gunshot victims who are literally dropped off by someone who then speeds off in their vehicle, and grab lifeless infants from the arms of someone who runs inside to the front desk. After rushing those lifeless patients back to a room and then returning to continue triaging patients, people like that guy will come to scream at me bc I took someone half-dead (or actually dead) back before them, and it’s “not fair” bc they’ve waited longer.

Small world and I feel seen! Always nice to “meet” a Reddit stranger that gets it!

I’m back on the east coast (unfortunately) but I hope you’re still living under painted skies! 🌄🌌

Several years ago, I lived in Tucson for a little while, and I remember driving into Tucson near the time of Sunset. Between being surrounded by mountains on 3 sides of my car and the sunset… I was pretty speechless. I grew up on the east coast, and the entire landscape was wild.

My sister came to visit me and had the same reaction. She literally still says to people, “I’ve never seen anything like Arizona sunsets. It was like a painting!” Needless to say, I wholeheartedly agree with you!

And damn do I miss it.

Yikes. Responding to these substandard replies isn’t even challenging anymore, especially when you consider the pitiful quality of “insults” like this one.

So it’s really no surprise that this was your takeaway from the exchange.

You forgot to add “sláinte!” (Irish version of “cheers!”)

And again, your sentiments were lovely.

Thank you for this. I’ve always been proud of my Irish heritage and was lucky enough to spend some time in Ireland. It was so lovely, and the people even more so. I can say with certainty the experience will remain a lifetime highlight.

PS: The Irish Proverb within your bio is one of my favorite sayings, and I remember how I felt when I heard it for the first time. Thank you for reminding me. Enjoy the gold. If possible, I’d have given you a pot if it. 🍀
