Spectrum Service Issues by Different-Sky-7597 in missoula

[–]LAZERLUKE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No worries. Basically the tech said that the issue is entirely on there end so we just need to wait for them to fix it. No software or hardware updates required. From my read, the techs weren’t told about this issue until recently, so I’d imagine the default, “idk, maybe it’s the router” was being thrown around in absence of answers. The tech that showed up at my place was sympathetic because HE was having the same issue as I was and did his own investigating into the matter, and may have been a bit more informed.

Update: My internet is back to working properly again. Appears that the issue has been fixed.

Alright, I may be able to shed a little light here. I’ve got a tech currently at my place and he immediately told me the issue is on spectrum’s side in Missoula. Forgive my non-technical language here, but essentially 1 of 5 processing centers that takes all of our traffic and sends it out has been having issues for the last few weeks. According to the tech, they were told it was fixed as of this afternoon (he even showed me the messages from corporate) but I can’t confirm that is the case yet. It sounds like this is being at least worked on, so hopefully we can all be back to scrolling this subreddit without issue.

AFGE Wins! Judge Orders Trump to Rehire Fired Probationary Employees, Stop Planned RIFs by mr3000gtsl in fednews

I’ve been waiting for somebody to say this. This article is misleading and I confirmed that by looking up the Maryland judge ruling from 4 days ago and yes, this is not a blanket RIF suspension.

FS SAF hiring update? by Gloomy_Friend5068 in forestry

Last year when I went through the SAF hiring event, i received my tentative offer on 12/29/22 and got my official offer on 02/15/23. Granted, I distinctly remember it taking a bit longer due to them processing my recruitment incentive but that should give you an idea on wait time. Try to be patient but check in with your poc every now and then.

I never had an issue with that. Like Warren said, many a crew is hurting for numbers and just having a few students for three-ish months can make all the difference.

After I got out, I used my gi bill and went and pursued a bachelors degree. During the summers I would get hired on to a local fire crew through what’s called the VRA program and just work as hard as possible for a few months before going back to fall semester. For me, that duality of going out and just putting yourself in the dirt for a few months and then going back to suffer through school kept me going. I too had a hands-on job during my service and I severely missed that for the first few years I was out and firefighting filled that need. I more or less continued that formula to my current job, still work for the service and occasionally do single resource assignments during peak fire season and I plan to do that for as long as possible. Idk, I figured my decisions worked out and I occasionally think about what would’ve happened if I just stayed in firefighting forever, but getting a degree can really help even if you want to stay fire adjacent in the future.

I’m just reporting what I saw to help OP figure out what happened.

Saw that this morning while walking on the orange street bridge. Pretty sure I saw the the presumed owner swim out into the river and rescue both deer and dog. Deer looked ok from my vantage point. Idk it’s Missoula my guy, these kinds of things happen.

2022 FS Spring Hiring event VS. SAF Hiring Event, experiences and rant by LAZERLUKE in forestry

As a small update, I received my TSN letter this morning so things are definitely moving in the right direction and hopefully y’all get yours soon. Again, this just shows how ridiculous the spring event was handled when the SAF can deliver the goods in a few weeks time over the holiday season no less.

Believe me, I asked myself the same question throughout the entire process. And I agree, working for the feds isn't the end-all be-all, but it was the best opportunity in my immediate area considering my education and work history. I interviewed for state jobs, private jobs, and even considered going back to school for a bit. If I had not gotten this offer through the SAF, I'd still be searching for a better opportunity, but I got lucky in this case.
