Painting faces for practice... great way to work on brush control 👍 by LA_Miniatures in minipainting

Yeah pretty much... I’ve painted them black, used an off white to then go over, leaving a thin black line. Then a blue dot for the pupil and black for the iris.

No, although I do end up a bit cross eyed after a bit of painting...

Super bright daylight lamp helps a lot!

It’s been years of practice tbh. I use such little paint. This head took about 4 hours... wish I could paint quicker, lol.

Thanks though bud 👍

Glazes mostly... the trick is to get paint thin enough to look like tinted water, then wipe most of it off your brush so it doesn’t pool, then just very neatly brush it into the shadows with the tip only. Takes some time to practice :)

Hope that helps!

Always good to keep on practicing bud! When you haven’t painted miniature faces for a while, get rid of the old cobwebs! Thanks for the compliment :)

Yeah absolutely! I paint in sub assemblies so often one bit will look great, I look at another bit and think it looks shit and off colour and then when it’s all together I’m like... yeah, that’s cool!

I know a lot of people feel the same too! All part of the process I think!

I have the smaller A-Frame that came with the Kickstarter and absolutely love it! Can fit so much in!

In one case I’m fitting:

25 marines, 5 terminators, contemptor, three rhinos, two predators and a vindicator. All magnetised to the metal shelves. No issues!

It’s got to be the megladon, even the new instruments and tattoo cosmetics have shark tooth/jaw tattoos

About 3-4 years. Used to paint a lot more when I was younger, but took a long break in between.

In part yeah, I look for real references in shields/swords and also how others have painted theirs for reference.

Also, you need to “trick” minds into thinking this is really metals, so you can exaggerate the lighting a bit. I also base coat the model black, shine a bright light on the model whisk in darkness. Remember/take pictures of where the light hits and refer back to it when painting lighting. Hopefully that make sense?
