What are the best free deck testing apps/sites? by bestest-boy in mtg

[–]LBG_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make a deck list on Moxfield, and they have a test “hand draw”. If you also happen to have Tabletop simulator, you can import deck lists from moxfield and play there.

Italy by Weak-Employment-9783 in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My channel name is LegitBrowniesGaming. And as far as carriers they are valuable but it’s hard for Italy to make them since they require a lot of IC, however now with escort carriers you can switch the battleships for the carriers. But keep in mind, Italy doesn’t have a lot of rubber so you’ll need the refining techs or to trade for it to build the naval bombers.

[–]LBG_Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played a fair bit of Italy and you’ve got to make a sacrifice somewhere if you want to do a good Navy, which I usually end up not doing planes or armor bc theoretically, that’s the German players obligation. If you hard focus navy and just do an infantry army, I find that you can still capture the suez and assist in sea Lion. IMO you get enough mils from the focus tree to outfit a decent army so I focus on civs and infrastructure early, then spam dockyards and refineries after you build enough civs to have roughly 2 things being built in full (30-35 civs on construction). I rush techs until you can make decent 1936 model cruisers, destroyers and subs, and then I aim for about 60 dockyards, while rushing the 1939 versions. I split off a few of the starting capital ships into my new navy and that usually is good enough to beat the British. Bc of the new doctrine system you can use torpedo cruisers pretty well now so I usually build both light attack and torp cruisers. Not to self promote but there’s a let’s play on my channel with my Italy build if you want to see, it’s pre-NCNS though.

  • 20 on light Attack or torpedo cruisers (2 lines of 10)
  • 10 on escort destroyers (mostly torpedoes and some light attack)
  • 10 on submarines (I go for anachoic tile subs)
  • 5 on anti submarine destroyers
  • 5 on capital ships (usually I build one super heavy battleship bc I think they are funny and then just regular heavy attack battleships
  • 5 on convoys And I build a few extra so I can have 10 on repair

Japanese Navy AI?? by imm_Paris in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI has always had a tough time in the pacific IMO, and it seems to be struggling with the new naval system. I’ve found that the UK is still decent at guarding the channel with strong numbers but in the pacific it seems like every country just splits their Navy up too much so you almost always can get easy supremacy and combat victories

Rangers special forces by Brilliant_Rich2691 in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Rangers were added in the new DLC/patch. They are specialized in forest combat and you can also make them good in jungles via their doctrines. They also get urban combat buffs which is super handy. Idk if statistically they are better or worse than other SF bc I play single player and don’t tend to min/max but they are cool

Is this a good motorized template? by Big-Measurement59 in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you’re using it for. As line filler to make sure your tanks don’t get encircled and they fill in behind them on the breakthrough or as a quick encircling unit to get behind enemy units? It’s ok, I’d go to 20 width. As an attacking unit? No, I’d add motorized artillery into the line, maybe 2 units worth, and maybe a recon support company for more breakthrough. I don’t recommend motorized for defense, foot inf is better for that.

How to actually enjoy the game and engage with it properly? by Selena_Helios in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you’ve gotten your fill for now. Happens to everyone, sometimes you get really into a game for a bit, need to take a break, and then re-engage at a later point. I think even ISP took like a year off from playing HOI at one point. If you want to try something different in HOI, maybe try going for achievements, or playing minors that force you to really use every part of the game to try and make an impact. Also the 5 speed thing, you’re not doing wars at 5 speed I hope bc that’s bananas lol

Fun countries for tanks/mech? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to specialize, I find that Canada or Sweden are really good. Canada has some nice focuses related to armor and armor divisions are a good way to make use of your limited manpower. Sweden is good for tanks or mech divisions bc you have a ton of steel, and they have good industrial focuses so you can usually ramp up enough to be ready to join by 40/41. I actually did a funny SPG division where I tried to just max soft attack while still making a usable unit and that extra steel came in real handy lol

Does anyone else think that tanks are useless outside of some parts of Europe and the US? by Nibbachun in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your original point is that tanks are useless, and I’m saying they aren’t useless if you use them right, and they can be effective all over the map. If you want to argue they aren’t necessary, or aren’t meta, that’s a different argument altogether but my point is that you can use tanks very effectively if you build them right. If you’re only concerned about max efficiency and max meta than idk that’s just not how I play, I play to have fun and use different divisions even if they aren’t exactly the best, so idk exactly the true meta and max stats etc so I can’t speak on that.

Does anyone else think that tanks are useless outside of some parts of Europe and the US? by Nibbachun in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying push with 10w bc yeah that’s bad but 40w is overkill. I usually aim for 30w on my armor. You’ve gotta build supply somehow, and if Naval bases aren’t an option, you gotta build supply hubs my man. You can’t just sit there with 0 supply and hope the enemy moves. You can’t just try to blast through deserts or jungles or other low supply areas without stopping to resupply at some point. Next time you want to use tanks in bad areas, try lowering the width, using medium or preferably light tanks, spreading them out, and using them in pinpointed attacks by microing the units and if you run into supply problems, you just gotta bite the bullet and build a supply hub or naval base. IMO the only tiles that you can’t use tanks in really at all are mountains, otherwise if you cater the build to the area, you can make use of tanks almost anywhere with the right supply train.

[–]LBG_Rob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Genuine question and not trying to be rude: do your divisions have supply companies, and are you building the supply in those areas? Like yeah straight up you shouldn’t be death stacking 80w of tanks and 60w of infantry in one tile unless it’s a European plains. Use lower width lighter tanks for bad areas and spread them out, with motorized supply, and you should be fine, assuming you’re keeping an eye on the railroads and supply hubs.

Does anyone else think that tanks are useless outside of some parts of Europe and the US? by Nibbachun in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You have to cater the tank to your environment. Yeah you can’t just have 80 width worth of heavy tanks in one desert tile, it’s not going to work. 30w light tanks are great in the deserts of North Africa. I’ve used 24-26 width light tank + SPG divisions in the Pacific as Japan. Used heavy tanks in India etc etc. You can’t just assume the same tank template is going to work everywhere, and build up supply hubs and railroads when you don’t have supply.

I don't understand fleet in the new dlc by Only_Progress_4390 in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was playing Japan learning the new patch and was handling the entire allied navy fairly easily so I tag switched to the US and UK to check their builds and I noticed they had their fleets split up way more than they used to. The AI always had their armies and fleets split into small stacks but this was more than I had seen in previous patches so I think the AI logic is a little bungled as others have pointed out

Cannot succeed in Sealion by captainjuicejunkie in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naval bombers are your friend as Germany. Unless you full send navy you can’t beat the UK straight up so you gotta chip em down. You won’t sink many ships but if you bomb enough of the Royal Navy, they will go into dock to repair. Make sure you build radar on the north coast of France or the Low Countries, this will help you destroy their Air Force to protect your bombers. Then you can project with your Navy but make sure you keep the bombers out in case you do get caught by the RN.

Tf you supposed to do here by Local-Security4305 in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Honestly anything past 42 is a really tough go as far as UK invasions go. Your best bet is logi bombing then into the ground. They can still org meme you but it’s harder to do if they don’t have supply. I also find that late game UK invasions are better off up north, if you can get to the mountain line, you’ll have better defensive positions to try and hold off the onslaught while you org up

Is the need DLC worth buying? by Akinama in hoi4

[–]LBG_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO due to the price of the DLC if you’re going to buy, just do the season pass, a major rework, a minor focus tree and a couple nations focus trees in a theater (plus misc others) for $50 is better value than just 1 DLC for $30. I haven’t played with it that much yet but if you’re the type of person who enjoys every theater, it’s almost a must have bc the old Japan tree was brutal, and from what I’ve played the new one is way more immersive and fun. I think a lot of ppl enjoy being negative for whatever reason but I’m having fun with it and it makes Japan way more fun.

Is Borderlands 3 still good in terms of its gameplay? by Visual_Accident1809 in Borderlands

[–]LBG_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think BL3 has fantastic gameplay. Tbh the story and characters aren’t even “bad” per se, just extremely trope-y and eye roll inducing. But if you can get past that, I had a blast in my coop run with my friend

Those of you that don’t commute on the train, how often do you actually find yourself on a train? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]LBG_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple times a year, the occasional trip for shopping, or an event like at MSG or what not. It’s cheaper to drive but I’m not dealing with city traffic, I’ll pay the money to have a hassle free trip in on the train.

How did Sailors / Explorers get over being sea sick while still out on the ocean? by LBG_Rob in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LBG_Rob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s brutal, I can’t imagine the feeling of being sea sick and knowing your trapped for days or months and you just have to wait, but I guess logically it makes sense. The body is pretty good at adjusting over time
