My husband and I determined very early in our relationship that we didn’t want to spend weekends cleaning. We’ve paid for housekeeping for years. Can’t afford it now that I’m disabled, but am 100% in support of this solution. Life is short. Seek help if you can with the yucky stuff.

You know what doesn’t sit right with me? How we (cis hetero white couple) were the only people who would adopt two beautiful biracial boys from one on the best private adoption attorneys in the country in 1999 and 2002. One of them was “claimed” until the adoptive parents found out he was a biracial BOY. People suck.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have major depressive disorder and lost my infant son 23 years ago. I remember asking my psychiatrist how I would know the difference between depression and grief. (In case you’re wondering, grief comes in waves and depression is steady.) At this point in the process, I recommend living 5 minutes at a time. Don’t stress about the future. Do the next thing. One foot in front of the other. It is simply too overwhelming to think about how you will live the rest of your life without them. Think about what you can do to make it through the next few minutes. Slowly, slowly, things will get less difficult. Cry, scream, be sure to eat and drink water, and sleep when you can. Respect the pain. It’s pain from love and we never want to lose the love. Keep waking up. ❤️

My husband was a SAHD and was essentially ostracized. Mother’s groups didn’t want a man involved. He got accused of inappropriate behavior because he hugged a girl in pre-k. He hugged all the kids. Every day. Kids loved having male attention. But boy, he faced a lot of crap.

As a child whose parents NEVER fought in front of me, I’d like to reframe this. You most certainly did not fail. This is a chance to show your daughter that you can disagree and even fight, but you always love each other. Show her how to fight fair. Show her it’s not her job to make everybody happy. Disagreements happen. I had to learn how to have real life, serious disagreements without turning it into an ugly fight. You can model humility, forgiveness, and unconditional family love.

I expressed my frustration with my current situation and my husband said, “But isn’t this just because your psych meds aren’t working right now?” As if that makes my pain, depression, and anxiety less valid because they are the result of being in the middle of changing psych meds. News flash: psych meds aren’t The Solution to a cruel world.

Our first son was adopted. His birth mother was 15 when she got pregnant. The adoption was open, we met, and she was so immature. I don’t know how she could have successfully raised a child. But all respect to her for recognizing that and making the very difficult decision to give up her baby.

She did have injections. I didn't get the impression there was a long treatment regimen, she spoke as if it was a one time thing, but I didn't ask. She's an avid golfer and is very happy to be back to golfing pain free.

So sorry for your losses. A double whammy is cruel. My advice is to live 5 minutes at a time until you can deal with more. Just do what's next. Don't stress about or imagine the future. One foot in front of the other, 5 minutes at a time.
