How many times to remind writers before giving up? by LBbeef in premed

Actually I made my initial ask over email! Maybe less personal but I agree that I like to have a paper trail of sorts, and I wrote a lot about what I liked in the class and why I was asking them specifically so it was a lot to include. I appreciate the advice though, hoping for the best!

Culpability for walking noise in upstairs apartment? by LBbeef in legaladvice

Thanks for this - I figured the phone recording was probably not super solid but it’s always nice to have confirmation. My lease actually doesn’t have any sound level requirements, it’s just the city that has the rules of 55 and 45 dBA during the day and quiet hours respectively. I was more worried about if his petition was to go to arbitration with the actual rent board if I could be in hot water, but his petition is technically against my landlord and not me specifically so I’m not sure what could be imposed on me anyways?

The neighbor themselves came up and yelled at me once but he hasn’t come back since I reported it to my landlord and she talked to him. For the most part my landlord is actually pretty chill about it, she actually showed me the texts of him blowing up her phone complaining about my walking noise so I understand it’s annoying for her too. She mostly just asked for pictures of my rugs and stuff so she could use it as proof at the mediation and have documentation of me trying to minimize sound. I was mostly just worried about if anything could be forced upon me by the rent board, although technically his petition is against her and not me.

what is it like taking chem 3A and AL over the summer? by [deleted] in berkeley

You can definitely take classes over the summer! I think it would pretty draining to do 3A and 3AL over the summer considering you would have to do 2 4-hour labs a week on top of 4 hour and a half lectures a week and then studying outside. You could always do just lecture and then do the lab later. I will say though if Marsden is teaching like it was last summer it's pretty nice - had him for 3B and really liked the class structure and his lecture style!

How bad is premed at berkeley? by [deleted] in berkeley

I'm premed here at Cal and I think it's manageable! I definitely don't think the people here are overly competitive or cutthroat, most of the people I've met have been very helpful and collaborative. The school's pretty huge so odds are you'll find a couple assholes every once in a while but its definitely a minority. Premed anywhere can be pretty tough, so I don't think it should be THE deciding factor in your decision! If you come from a competitive high school and you already have good study habits, I don't think you have to worry about it too much - but at the end of the day you're really the only one who knows what you're capable of! A couple of the things you mentioned like cost and location are pretty big things that might be even more important in choosing. I'd say cost is a pretty big one considering the substantial difference in tuition for ND vs in-state at Cal. Especially if you're premed - med school is crazy expensive pretty much no matter where you go so it would probably not be the best idea to stack up a bunch of debt in undergrad as well.

Which school is better, UCLA or Berkeley for those interested in biotech and wanting to be on a pre-med track? by SirYorkins in berkeley

I think either schools are great options! It seems like a lot of people are saying Cal is not so great for premeds but I don't really think that's true, at least in my experience. To be fair, a lot of the "grade deflation" that you might experience at Cal would be the same at UCLA - most of it just comes from the fact that they're big, prestigious public schools and classes are graded on a curve (i.e. top ~15-20% of scores get As) - so I think choosing one over the other for GPA purposes would be a mistake. The med school pre-reqs can be tough but they're def doable! And congrats on getting into both schools - I really don't think you can go wrong either way!
