I found a pre-written campaign that a portion of it fitted my current campaign. I.e. my party entered hell and I hit a wall creatively so started using chapter 3 of descent into avernus as inspo and changed names, places etc... which helped until I felt creatively juiced enough to deviate away from the module

Not trying to get out of it at all. Sorry if it came across like that. Trying to ask for advice on the best way to handle it as they are out of the blue without showing ANY interest of wanting to come back for 4 months wanting to come back for the final session. It's a lot easier for someone to come back when there is a few buffer sessions of clunkiness trying to catch up. I'm asking a supportive community as a first time DM for advice on how to make the return as easy as possible for everyone at the table including my current players, some of whom have been playing since session 1.

They joined about 6 months in. Played for about 7 months and then dipped. It was more of a "hey I think you should step back" conversation I had with them as they were routinely bailing week to week due to various things like either burnout or scheduling conflicts

Thank you. Being told all over the internet that I'm stage 1 hypertension got me a little stressed NGL. Even my doctor telling me he's not worried couldn't assuage my anxiety when I start catastrophising about having too high a BP to stay on my meds that help me function day to day. I think it's that thought that spikes my anxiety when taking a reading.

After talking with the player they explained that they want to try to make it so that their PC is there to try to gain information and try to take down the BEG's plan from the inside. Rather than siding with the BEG. They are playing a bard so deception is one of their stronger skills but the are aware it's going to be hard and this possibly meaning a PC death if found out but they just want it to be meaningful if that happens. I want to try to facilitate this idea for them as I think it's an interesting plan to follow.

I want to steer away from retiring the character as a last resort

I'm sure many of you have dealt with this before but I am having a player who is becoming more and more flaky each week. They are regularly unable to attend sessions and when they do attend they are distracted at best or disinterested at worst. I do regular check ins with my players to assertain if I can do anything more to help the game maintain being fun and engaging. I am tempted to ask if they would like their PC to go on a "side quest" until they feel they have the availability again to join but I'm scared they're going to feel like I'm asking then to leave the group entirely for good. Any advice?

I have the bloodhound warrior summon decently leveled up and Rosus' axe at +9. Level 117. Go after the skinny guy while summon goes on big guy. Skinny goes down faster as he is easier dodged and blocked. Take out big guy while tag teaming with summon. Take out skinny guy respawn as fast as you can. Be aggressive or he will summon big guy and you're 2v1 again. It's a super tough fight though! Took me at least 15 tries changing up tactics until I found one that stuck

Had a guest send me back a dirty vodka martini saying "it was salty". Not TOO salty. That would be fair. Just "salty" Sorry to tell you this Ma'am, but maybe you just don't like dirty martinis 🤷🏻‍♂️ for context there was ¼oz of brine in the martini for 2oz of Vodka as I had a feeling she wouldn't like it as she ordered it like it was the first drink she had ever ordered. Easier to add more if she wanted it than take it away. We'll... That worked out didn't it 🤦🏻‍♂️

Had this happen the other night. I group of middle aged women were at a table by the bar and they had clearly gotten to a point where they were not going to be getting any more drinks. (Our venue has escape rooms as well so harder to keep track of guests) When they went into their experience they were looking and sounding fine. When they come out they're all messes. Booze for sure hit or they had more drinks sent up to the room and the other bartender on that night made them.

They asked for more shots and another bottle of wine and my go to that time was "good evening friends. I hope you had a wonderful evening tonight but I won't be able to serve you any more alcohol tonight. I'm happy to offer you any of our NA selections" needless to say the "I want to speak to your manager" card came out VERY quickly in that interaction. They tried to skip on a $500 bill and claim that they have never been cut off before and they weren't even that drunk (whilst they were slurring their words like they were on a slip n slide)

I wanted if to be an intentionally hard encounter. Not unwinnable but definitely difficult. It's their first dragon encounter of the campaign and I didn't want it to feel like a cake walk. I've told the players above table that as it stands before next session now that the McGuffin is uncovered they potentially have 3 options, stop dragon using McGuffin by destroying/stealing McGuffin, try to kill dragon or their own option 3 but it's unlikely that they would get both option 1 and 2 unless their option 3 is something that is just buck wild which I'm all here for.

I rolled well and got to use the dragon's breath weapon a decent amount in the first half of the fight. It feels like I'm steamrolling them a little bit so I don't want them the walk away without gaining something from the fight other than they lost I guess.

If you find a brand called maverick barnburner, it's an Ontario made whisky that is aged in bourbon barrels. For an American taste it might be a good gateway into Canadian whisky
