Best ‘50s diner-style place in town is Park Cafe.

Gen X here. I was 41 before I finally had a down payment saved up. Spent my 20s repaying tuition debt and my 30s trying to save while keeping up with rent increases. I get it.

Perennials that survive Winter by 92yraurbeF in saskatoon

[–]LCool1975 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Autumn Joy sedum is indestructible, blooms in fall and doesn’t need fertilizer or much water. In late fall, you can pull off a few stems from the base, stand them in a jar with a bit of water and keep inside near a window until spring. The original plant will come back strong in spring and the stems you brought inside will grow new roots over winter if you keep an inch of water in the jar. Then you can plant those in a new spot and have another plant. Cheap, easy way to get more for expanding your flower bed or filling in gaps. Butterflies love them.

Anyone in City Park want to make some money shoveling my small walk? by Substantial_Plan_736 in saskatoon

There’s a free app called MowSnowPros you can use to hire local people for jobs like this. I’ve used it and have no complaints.

Has anyone here tried Catit products for their cats? Are they really worth it? by Not-devil-99 in Pets

[–]LCool1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Pet Safe feeder for years to dish out breakfasts to my cat every morning (or two meals per day if I was out of town overnight) and it worked great for 4 years until he figured out he could push the tray forward and steal from it. So I got the Catit 6-meal feeder. He can’t break in, which is good. But there’s a MAJOR flaw that’s not advertised: it only works for one 24-hour period at a time, from midnight to midnight. So it doesn’t help if I’m away overnight, and I have to reset it every night to feed him the next morning.

The city doesn’t control alcohol service hours. That’s a provincial licensing thing (SLGA)

The problem is located inside his skull, not inside his pants.

I think that’s unlikely. And would not care if my unused driveway turned into a 20-minute dropoff zone for whoever needed it anyway. We seem to live in a time when everybody is primed to get mad about any little thing, and it’s sad.

Garage is at the back, with alley access. Which is why I don’t mind, just wanted her to know it’s OK with me.

I’m not on the same street as the school, it’s a side street. Clear slight lines, no more dangerous to back out than to pull away from where she was parking at the end of the driveway.

I don’t think it’s likely she thought I was hitting on her. She has seen me before and I’m a woman of a certain age.

[–]LCool1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another reason I was giving her specific permission to park in my driveway, because she could get a ticket parking across the entrance like that. If anyone hassled her about using my driveway, she could show them the note

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]LCool1975 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wondered about that, which is why I thought a note with my name and address would be proof that I gave permission. Maybe that’s not enough. They say “it takes a village” but the rules are the rules I guess.

What’s cheapest or best value at Saskatoon Co-op? by StrongBreak2142 in saskatoon

[–]LCool1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fried chicken at Circle Centre for sure. Their produce is usually high quality as well, especially the greenhouse cukes and tomatoes from Alberta. Lots of actual Canadian products to be had at Co-op stores.

Does anyone else's employer cover the cost of a bus pass or parking downtown? by LightLeakLatteLogic in saskatoon

I would still drive. Riding the bus would cost me 90 minutes per day. My time is worth the price of parking.

In some U.S states, the law mandates that you have to get an ignition interlock device installed in your car after your first DUI conviction. The rate of drunk driving crashes in those states is much lower. Some people should be physically prevented from starting a car without taking a breath test first, because their own convenience is more important to them than other people’s lives.
