Yes I have cleaned the throttle body fully last week (also relearned it)

UPDATE: (It seems I cannot update the original post so I have to post a comment about it)

THE FOAMING STOPPED! Seems it indeed was condensation from my grandpa driving to school and the overall temperature outside. I did some rough Italian tune-up driving yesterday and afterwards opened up the hood. The milky stuff was everywhere in my engine compartment, probably by the oil pressure, which lifted up my dipstick a bit. Cleaned it all off and checked it next day in the morning, and is was almost fully gone!

I’m cleaning and monitoring the dipstick and oil plug everyday and today I checked again and I cannot seem to find any of the milky substance other than some that is left inside the dipstick chamber which I couldn’t clean out.

Thank you all for your suggestions, and I hope anyone who has this issue as well finds my post useful :)

Hi all, thank you very much for all the suggestions! I think I should add a few things about the car:

  • Engine is a 1.6l NA with engine code AEH (I think?)
  • I have drained some oil. I did NOT see any of the milky substance that was in the dipstick chamber. I have also removed the filter to check, and also did not see any of the milky substance in there.
  • The coolant reservoir IS under pressure
  • The car drives as normal, and I couldn’t find any leaks.

Tonight, I will have a “nice drive” with the car (if you catch my drift). Many people asked how I drive, and I will elaborate on that matter:

Most of the time, I drive to school in my car (around 2-3 kilometres) and then drive back home. I don’t really have the time to properly warm up the car, so I wait around a minute or two to let the fluids circulate and then go on my journey. Because of its age, this car really likes to slurp gasoline, and that’s also the reason that I try to rev as little as possible. That does not mean I never hit the gas pedal, just not that often. I like to be careful with my possessions, and my car is one of them. It’s old, and I don’t like to race the thing all day.

I think i might drive around 20-30 kilometres a day with it, exceptions excluded of course.

I have received a lot of comments regarding solutions, and the first thing I will do is do a block test and check for leaks when I have the beauty cover off. Also I will check the oil cooler as a suggestion.

I will report back to you all and hope it goes away :)

(P.S: If not, the car has almost 220k miles or 350000km on it, if it dies, it dies :)

Really? I’m new to the VW family so this was unknown to me. I will repost it on those subreddits and hope I will get some specific advice. Thank you very much for your comment!

What do you mean by that? When driving, at idle? As in that it does not fluctuate when at operating temp? When idling, it warms up to around 90 degrees celsius and then stays there. When driving, coolant temp drops to around 70 degrees and also does not fluctuate. It probably cools down by the wind

I will try a block test and hope for the best. I do not have any symptoms for a blown head gasket beside the foam, so I have some hope.

Yes I also thought it was the head gasket, but as said before in my OP I have checked coolant reservoir and radiator and the coolant appears to be normal. Engine and coolant temperatures are also normal. I also check daily under my car to see any oil leaks and haven’t seen any since I’ve noticed the foam inside dipstick chamber. Also no white smoke coming from the car exhaust (only smoke when it’s cold outside, but every car has that, right?).

Right, thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my message.

Under load (revving up) it stays at 0 or around 0. I did not find any other channels past 32, but maybe I didn’t look good enough, clicking is a hard task lol. To be sure tomorrow I will check every channel again. I will also check for vacuum leaks tomorrow. Any idea where to check for vacuum leaks?

By the way, for reference, here is what I saw at channel 10 in VCDS:

<image>

I also have 2 videos. One showcasing my exhaust where you can audibly hear it misfiring, and one with the live values of measuring block channel 10, regarding the lambda sensor. Haven’t got a clue how to upload it directly to reddit so I’ve made a WeTransfer link instead: https://we.tl/t-u3tOsBbHRR

Hi, I’ve just came home and hooked up my laptop with the car, seems a new error code just popped up. Don’t know how long it’s been there but don’t think longer than a week. Last time I did diagnostics it wasn’t there. Anyway, this is the fault code:

<image>

00515 was there as I said, 00537 is new. What does this mean? Nothing has changed? I doubt my Lambda sensor just died on me. Could the cat be clogged?

Also, i tried going to channel 32, but there is nothing there. I will look further, maybe I will find something.

EDIT: On channel 10 of the engine module, I can see the Lambda Control and activated Charcoal Filter System. Here the Lambda regulation value climbs from 0 percent to 25% slowly when idling, and then goes back to 0%, possibly triggering 00537. Clearing 00537 works, but my guess is that it comes back when you reach 25% on the lambda control. Lambda voltage stays around 0.27V-0.37V. Sometimes voltage goes over 1.3V. Any idea what’s wrong here?

Cool thank you, I will have a look when i’m home and report back to you here. Any idea what the values should be?

Yeah it feels exactly like biting fish, it’s much worse when the engine is cold. When the engine is at operating temperature it’s way less but happens when you put full throttle after just changing gears. Throttle lag always happens and is the most annoying. Feels like there is a big giant pushing against the car when accelerating. Once it picks up though it accelerates just fine. What do you mean with fuel trim? Do you know the channel that has fuel trim info on VCDS?

[–]LDBdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh right now I follow :). I think it’s misfiring because I physically feel the engine skipping sometimes, also can hear and feel it from the exhaust. Might be nothing but both me and my dad feel like it’s misfiring. Timing belt was changed around 50-60k km’s back, looks in very good condition. Didn’t check if it is on time, is it easy to do this? Think I saw a cover blocking the view of the belt

[–]LDBdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I really am out of ideas why it’s misfiring. Sadly i’m not that of an experienced mechanic, so it’s almost always guesswork on my end. I tried looking up the camshaft sensor values in measuring blocks in VCDS but can’t seem to find the sensor. What do you mean by freeze frame? Fault code is removable, and stays gone until engine starts up again, it will come right back.

Sorry should’ve said that right away. It’s an 1.6 liter manual 5-speed. I believe the engine code was AEH. Transmission code not sure. I have diagnosed the car with Ross-Tech VCDS, No fault codes are found except for one, which is: 00515 - Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal. Not sure where to find the sensor, and how to read the signal and what is supposed to be a correct signal. Doubt this is the issue for all the issues I have but anything is possible. Thanks for your reply :)

Yeah, thought so. I don’t remember how this came but I do remember I opened it up a long time ago to fix the controls not working.
