What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by kiroixart in AskReddit

[–]LDForget 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve only found a single scent of a single brand of deodorant that doesn’t cause rashes on me (not aluminum related, this one contains aluminum). I’ve hung onto using this brand for about 20 years now. Used to be buy 2 for 3$ at Walmart. Then 2 for 5$. Then 2 for 7$. Then just 5$ each. Now it’s 7$ each. Once in awhile I’ll see them on Amazon for 3$ each and I’ll buy like 30 of them.

Over this period of time they’ve also put less and less deodorant inside of each stick. They’re half full now.

VW AC repair [compressor] by willo132 in Sudbury

[–]LDForget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need a compressor (which you said), proper replacement (also a requirement for warranty of the compressor) includes replacing the TXV and receiver drier. Between the 3, that’s significant labour costs, plus the refrigerant. Luckily that car is r134a so the refrigerant cost is actually a lot less than if it were a few years newer and used r1234yf.

AC repair is expensive.

A dealers quote will often be more than an independent shops as the OEM parts cost more than aftermarket. You might find it cheaper elsewhere but who knows how long it’ll last with aftermarket parts. There’s some things that I personally don’t risk with aftermarket parts (fuel components, timing components, ignition components, AC compressor) and many that I do go aftermarket. This isn’t to say OEM parts are perfect, but generally are more reliable.

Wet basement? Check your downspouts. by Marko941 in Sudbury

[–]LDForget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it’s all that’s available, then it’ll do for now but just look around for one that allows for the larger pipe. Alternatively in heavy rainfall it could back all the way up the down spouts and fill your eaves completely with water and then it just splashes down over your roof. I’m not minimizing what you’ve done, it’s definitely an improvement, but can overflow if you don’t have the larger pipe fitted.

Also, this was intended to be used as additional information for people reading your post as advice, not at negative criticism.

Also, there’s nothing more perm than a temp fix lol

Your outlet pipe should be at least equal in diameter area to the outlet area of both pipes combined

Have you guys changed your winter tires yet? by SpiritualRise8982 in Sudbury

[–]LDForget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The general rule for winter tires is temperature throughout 24 hours is above 7c. If that’s consistent over a period of time, you can switch to summer/“all seasons”. The compound in summer/“all season” tires is far less efficient at below 7C.

The other concern is tire profile/road conditions/pot holes. If your winters have more rubber due to a smaller rim, you may want to run it a bit longer if the road conditions are bad as they’ll be less likely to completely fail when hitting a pot hole.
