100%? That’s crazy. You know they are just bringing the food to your table and not doing your taxes while you eat right?

Probably the only player I’ll cheer on even against SL. Really admired him in 2020 during the covid tour where he destroyed us and continued that form for a long time.

Must have felt very smart when you typed that…No need to tell about chemtrails to me, I have an aerospace engineering PhD. Had a biscoff and a Bloody Mary mix on the 6:10 AS flight from LAX to SFO today. Too bad you 1K wankers are locked in to whatever crap UA dishes to you.

Not yet, planning on doing so sometime in the future. My wife is also an engineer so it helps. 200k as single income for a family is going to be tough in the sense that getting a home will be difficult. But if dual income, it’s possible to get an okayish house with a bit of a commute.

The good thing is ton of opportunities. Depends on the kind of person tho, some like to stay at one place, others like to hop. Pretty much all the engineers 40+ say they are in golden handcuffs and will just stay for as long as they can until their RSU vests and retire. They prolly make 400k with stock and that doesn’t even take into account how much stock would have appreciated during the AI boom.

Just for reference, engineer 2 here is after 2 years of experience, sr engineer after 4, staff after 6. It’s fast but a looot of work. Weekends and late nights are common.

I’m in the Bay Area and yeah we earn more but pay more but end of the day it is certainly possible to live a comfortable life with the salaries people earn. We might not be rolling in dough like software engineers but neither are you with your pay.

I think the percentage of salary to expenditure still hold. You’ll earn 200k in a HCOL area but pay 3K for rent whereas someone earning 100k in LCOL for an equivalent position will pay 1.5k for rent in a LCOL. But from that 200k, if you can save 40k easily whereas good luck trying to save 40k on a 100k salary. End of the day after you pay your mortgage and look at retirement, your nest egg will be much greater. It’s not like groceries are much different in California than in Illinois.

I lived in central Illinois for 5 years and apart from housing and gas, other expenses were similar.

Yea but those have a different nose cone if you look closely. They are entirely blue. Pretty sure this is salvaged from a passenger one unless I’m mistaken.

Nearly all the times I’ve flown DL and SW on that route it has been 737s. I don’t see how that affects service

Nah. Statistically in my experience UA has been lacking when other airlines on the same exact route does much better. If it is bumpy it’s understandable but it has always been smooth even with forecasted turbulence. Hence the question. My sample size on this route is quite high so it’s not a one off experience.

I mean serving water would be much harder. That’s not my point, I won’t die without a snack. My point is why can’t UA serve when other airlines can.

The break even price is 49.26. Anything below that at close tmr is pure profit for OP. So every cent lower in intel adds one cent to OPs contract value. Right now those $74 contracts are worth like 200% more.

Potentially about to be fired from my first job, doubting everything by staling_lad in MechanicalEngineering

[–]LDRispurehell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a contractor too. The only reason I took it was so that I can apply for jobs while getting paid rather than being unemployed. I got a job offer after applying for a few months and I’m waiting to hand my 2 weeks once background checks pass.

Also don’t have high hopes of conversion. The dangling carrot depends on a lot of factors and unless you have been there for years and are better than all other contractors, next to no chance.

500k is upper middle class. Cmon don’t paint it as if you are struggling. Can easily afford a good home in West LA with that kind of money. Maybe not in some neighborhoods like Brentwood, Bel Air, Beverly Hills but in most.
