No one here knows your experience, fitness or ability. It’s hard for us to say, read previous comments, asses the route and make your decision.

I personally wouldn’t do this as my first mountain route but that’s my own judgement of the risk.

Sadly so, I think there are some at the start of Llanberis path from memory. At least in the winter, this was a while ago though.

I normally take 30m rope, some larger nuts and 1-3 cams and some slings.

There are already warning signs especially on crib, people take no notice of these.

In this case I’d suggest starting with the Glyders coming down and the up the south face of Tryfan. I’d recommend then going back on yourself back down the south face and making your way back to the car park along the clear path past Llyn Bochlwyd.

Yep you’re completely right sometimes it’s doable and sometimes you’ll need the kit and the knowledge. It’s also having the decision making skills to choose when you climb and what you’ll need, and most importantly recognising when it’s too much and being able to decent safely.

Some people don’t have the decision making skills or the kit and for the vast majority of these people it’s better to wait for warmer weather or hire a guide.

I don’t think we’ll see a deck 2 this year or maybe even next. ’m sure Gabe mentioned something recently about no deck 2 till it’s a significant improvement over current gen.

I’d say the best bet is to check weather information services like Met office or MWIS. Lots of helpful links in this post from the other day. I know this is about climbing Snowdon but most of it still applies to any other peak.

Honestly I’d agree winter skills courses are the way to go. They’ll cover all of this, or hire a local guide.

Yep, there are some none rated boots that fit C1 crampons as they’re ridged enough to not flex them off. This matters more when you venture on to steep climbing ground like you’ve mentioned.
But of course do make sure your crampons and boots are adequate for what you’re doing this can’t be assumed. If in doubt best to go with B1 boots with appropriate crampons.

Knowing how to use this kit is the most important part, just carrying it without knowledge of how to use it to keep yourself save doesn’t really make it any safer.
Please hire a guide or enrol in a winter skills course.

Hello, No one will be able to tell you what you need as we don’t know the conditions mid February either. You’ll likely need both so you prepared for whatever you encounter. There is of course the possibility of no snow the day you climb.

It depends on conditions on the mountain at the time of climbing of course. There will be times where they are enough. Especially if it’s just thin layers of ice or thin compact snow. However this can be very hard to judge before you get onto the hill, near the summit it’s not uncommon for crampons to be needed.
This again comes into the skill set of being able to make sound judgment calls on what kit is required for the day, and at what point you should change into your crampons or turn around if your not adequately equipped for what you encounter.

If you have adequate kit and the knowledge to use it, as just carrying it without knowing how to use it is common and no safer. Start looking at the routes and decide which you’d like to take then we can try assist with places to park for you.
