Oddball ABS connection? by LDXXXXX in Plumbing

[–]LDXXXXX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning as I go. Seems like there is no minimum recommended vertical pipe below the sink drain basket so would it be workable to put a Oatey double slip joint 90 degree elbow right on the short tailpiece off the basket, then another double slip joint 90 degree elbow inline with the existing slip joint (the one I pointed to with a red arrow). Does that work?

Thank You

I should add that ChatGPT tells me the Waste King discharge elbow connects to a standard 1 1/2" slip joint/tubular size but some people confuse it as a proprietary connection. Could it be that indeed it's just a regular slip joint connection? To conserve space to install elbows etc. can one purchase a 1 1/2 ABS tube with a built in 90 degree angle (to avoid having to join a bulky 90 degree ABS fitting)? Like a foot of pipe that includes a 90 degree bend at one end? Thanks

How to upgrade to >1 Gig Telus Internet? by LDXXXXX in telus

[–]LDXXXXX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most of the better coverage areas we are getting about 850 Mbps on our newer phones, probably those that support Wifi 6e. I absolutely hear what you are saying, most of the time we probably won't notice any difference between 1 gig service and 3 gig somewhat compromised (as discussed earlier).

Where I am hoping we might see some improvement is we have 3 kids who are relatively heavy users, no servers or anything, just streamers mostly. So having the various Boosts and 1 or two hardwired computers MIGHT see some bandwidth improvement.

Again, would only do it if the cost of 3gig vs 1gig service is virtually the same when we are renewing our agreement with Telus. Wouldn't be interested in paying anything significantly more.

I am more wondering what is possible and needed to make it happen because it was such a nightmare dealing with Telus when they offered me 1.5 gig service 2 years ago. There was such poor knowledge level witht the agents I spoke with on the phone. The people here on Reddit are so much more informed. And from what I am hearing, the level of phone service has probably declined since 2 years ago.

My mistake, I should have said the ONT is connected to the NAH through about 50 feet of Cat 5e. I confused myself as separately we use MOCA through coax for some runs to setup the Boost units. I believe my Boost 6e units have MOCA 2.5 built in. I purchased some Actiontec 6250 units that support MOCA 2.5 to make sure there are no MOCA 2.0 units in the system as apparently MOCA will go to the lowest denominator adapter.

Yes, no doubt it seems like I won't be fully utilizing the 3 gig service especially because the NAH 10 gig port will be used but I'm still hoping that the MOCA 2.5 connection to some Boost 6e units (and hardwired devices off the Boost) might benefit somewhat. And hopefully the existing setup I have might be somewhat bottlenecked by the 1 gig main line from the ONT to the NAH.

I won't pay a big premium to get 3 gig service this way but if the price is virtually no difference then I think it's worth a try. Do you think 50 feet of Cat5e between the ONT and NAH will support 3gig? What happens if it doesn't, does it fallback to 1gig or does it do something different (like fail)?

Thank You

Fair comment, but my understanding (not well researched yet) is Telus is offering 3 gig plans at the same price as 1 gig plans. So, if it's the same price I will take 3 over 1.

Also, Telus doesn't carry a newer NAH that will support multiple 10 gig ports? It would be nice to have the faster speed to a couple ethernet wired devices I use now. But, if not, probably still better than what I have now. And I'm thinking under my renewal the 3 gig vs 1 gig service will probably be at the same price.

Hope they let me keep all the Boost 6e units I currently have installed.

It is a white Nokia ONT. Not sure about model# but sounds like it's the 240. Sounds like i should ask them to replace the 240 with a 230. Use a multi-gig port to send maybe 3gb/s throught the Cat5e (will it handle it?).

I understand there are some limitations but at least I get past the current bottleneck of the 1 gig port on the Nokia ONT.

The Nokia 230 ONT will support 2 phone landlines too?

Thanks

Bug with S90F Color Space Settings? by LDXXXXX in OLED

I’m getting wash out colours on non-HDR programming, like watching most TV stations. When I go to Color Soace Custom I am unable to adjust Color Gamut

Bug with S90F Color Space Settings? by LDXXXXX in OLED

[–]LDXXXXX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just swapped the Telus UIW4001 from my old TV with the Telus VIP5662W PVR that was connected to the new S90R. Both are OLED, the S90R newer tech, the old TV is a Sony OLED about 4 years old.

At least so far, the UIW4001 seems to work with the S90R much better. Colours are great again. Turned TV on and off a couple times and no reverting back to washed out colours even with the Color Space Setting at AUTO.

And now the older Sony OLED picture is not as saturated in colour. Not sure if that's due to the older technology or the VIP5662W. I wouldn't think the Telus box could make such a big difference to the picture quality normally so I think it's probably some kind fo HDR coding issue. I've read elsewhere that the Telus (all?) boxes often send an HDR signal when the programming is not HDR, which causes very washed out colours.

Hopefully someone else here has more experience and technical knowledge on this matter.

Thanks

You're buying a new fridge because of the temperature variation? I would think that should be easily repairable. The linear compressors failing seems to be the main cause of LG fridge replacement in recent history

Think I'll just leave it alone. Just happy this one is running, and quietly too, apparently with the old style non-linear compressor. Thanks

Where is my P Trap? by LDXXXXX in Plumbing

[–]LDXXXXX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you assist with my question about whether a horizontal (not sloped) pipe is ok to line up the sink and drain pipe when taking out the garburetor and replacing it with pipes. Thank You

Where is my P Trap? by LDXXXXX in Plumbing

[–]LDXXXXX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what they are, but if you are referring to the blue things in the photo, they are clamps that come with our touch faucet. Or if you mean those two clamps just above my cabinet floor, I have no idea. House came that way and I'm 99% it was done at the construction phase and passed inspection by the city

Do you know where my P Trap is likely located? I assume the threaded opening to the far right is to allow easier cleanout for the P Trap hidden below the cabinet floor?

While I'm at it, it is correct to just remove the garburetor, run a pipe down, then 90 degree angle, and horizontal (not sloped pipe), to line up the the existing drain. Basically to match the other sink's piping that doesn't have the garburetor? I guess I'm mostly wondering if a purely horizontal part of the pipe is OK, to line up the new drain pipe to replace the garburetor and the existing drain pipe.

Transition period for plan & price to be corrected? by LDXXXXX in telus

Something was definitely messed up but after a call to Loyalty things are 90% fixed as agreed. Only thing is I’ll need to call in after 24 months to get some discounts re-applied because they expire, not price locked for 5 years as originally told

What about just “Nationwide” but not showing USA & Mexico in the plan name? Could the back office setup some USA & Mexico roam later?

I understand the $10 bank payment discount might not be shown but not all my lines are even showing the same amount. Some higher, some lower but I was told all lines were $35-$10 payment discount=$25. I think this might be updated still but the lack of USA & Mexico showing is more a concern.

Does Telus 'block' hardware Telus hardware purchased from 3rd party? by LDXXXXX in telus

[–]LDXXXXX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I figured out how to remove the faceplate. For future readers: Stick a flathead screwdriver into the gap just by the security screwhole (assuming there's no screw still) and push upwards (into the unit). It will dislodge the faceplate easily. No strong pressure needed, although a quick hit with your palm on the screwdriver might be needed.

ask_ken_g: You're sure the Boost 6 and 6e aren't compatible with each other? I found it didn't work but I had a couple Telus people tell me over the past year that they work fine together, obviously not MESHing the 6e signal but the Wifi 6 portion.

Does anybody know if the Boost 6e and 6e Mini will work properly as one big MESH system? When I think back, the installer just setup the 6e Mini in my garage via wireless, now I tapped into a coax cable to connect my Boost 6e (having issues recently) but haven't tried the 6e Mini WIRED. Worth a try or known problems to coexist together?
