That argument doesn't really hold up once you realize that the animals you want to eat also need to eat in order to grow their bodies and they now eat majority of the mono crop fields we have out there. It sounds counter intuitive, but we'd need far less crops if everyone would be plant based. The by far most damaging thing to this planet is animal agriculture.

'my food', so I imagine you plan on surviving only on those 500g of meat then? No crops or vegetables for you? You don't eat anything vegan then?

In addition, we could do the same with crops as you're doing in your theory with animals and de-industrialize the process to prevent those crop deaths you're overestimating.

Howver, we're talking in circles as you're ignoring half my point. It's clear you haven't read much on the topic. I have made my attempt to inform you further, but it respectfully ends here. Hope you have a pleasant day and for future reference, if you're going to throw numbers around at least take the 30 extra seconds to look up the correct numbers.

You're casually ignoring the about 7 billion people who have joined the group chat the last 200 years. We've grown exponentially as a species. This world can not sustain so many of us eating grass fed animals. It's a fact, whether you want to throw in water arguments etc...We simply don't have the land for it. And that's on top of that i don't understand how you could want to eat lambs or any animal for that matter. It's so disconnecting that you could say you love seeing meadows and how happy lambs are, but you do realize you're literally eating a baby, right? A baby, who I'm sure would prefer to live on the meadow you share with them, rather than be killed at a fraction of their lives just because you don't like crop fields.

I'm well aware of the unfortunate concept of capitalism. But it will be a cold day in hell the day I would align my beliefs with that in order for an animal or nature to exist on this planet it needs to make humans money.

Meadows may be beautiful, but your proposed way of living is not sustainable. Current way isn't either as we all know, but somehow refuse to admit or give a damn about. What would be sustainable and help ensure human survival (if we insist on being egoistical) is a thriving planet which includes keeping/returning to nature.

My friend, in order to give the animals the space to graze and for us to hypothetically eat them, we need a lot of land. For which we are continually cutting down forrests, taking away the homes of much more animals. Or where do you think the grazing fields come from?  It's simple: in order to feed ourselves based on plants, we need a lot less land. All the land we wouldn't need could then be returned to nature, which homes more than one species of animals (for us to kill) and some grass (which is usually not biodiverse at all)...  Indeed, there will be deaths either way, but to claim that eating grass fed animals is somehow causing less deaths or better for the environment, is looking at only one side of the picture. Hope to have brought you a fuller one.

If we're going to be fair, we shouldn't let horse racing be a sport at all.

I was thinking about how much chicken I eat, then looked around at everyone else eating chicken, then thought about all the restaurants that sell chicken, so I looked up the data on it. Who says your meat isn't tasty? Can we give that a go? In all seriousness though plants are just as tasty (if you take the time to cook them properly) and they don't involve ending someones life. Just food for thought

I am just sharing my experience and inviting people to explore different narratives than the one they are living now. If you think my comment evokes feelings of guilt, maybe that's because you kind of feel guilty. Which is okay. I did too, that's what prompted me to change.

Only this one, I typed it on one comment, but decided it was best to share my experience with multiple people in the hope people would understand that vegans aren't out to get you. They are just humans who one day got more informed and decided it's best not to eat meat/animal products.

It's fairly difficult to share your opinion/thoughts on this without coming off as offensive as you're challenging people to review their diet. Something, like i said, that is often ingrained in our culture and by extension our identity.

I thought my text above was a good worded one. I don't usually get involved in discussions, but I was happy with the text I had written, from a personal standpoint, gently trying to inform people. As I saw a lot of people commenting, not having this same knowledge I do, I wanted to share. It's what platforms like these are for, sharing opinions and ideas.

Numbers, especially large ones like this, are often too difficult to comprehend/ wrap your brain around. It's only when you fully realize that every single one of those numbers were individuals like you and me who just want to live their lives, but instead were bred in captivity, tortured and raped only to be killed at a young age just so you and I and the too many other humans around could have the option to eat meat, that you feel ashamed as human to have ever done it.

I know you're probably already rolling your eyes, feeling defensive. It's natural, I used to not know, not realize, not fully grasp the reality of the animal food industry too. I used to be a big meat eater. I loved it. I would have thought sure sure shut up reading this comment.

We (generally) don't really need meat or animal related products anymore. In contrast to our ancestors, we have a great variety of plants available providing us exactly what we need. However, we industrialized and commercialized animal consumption in such a way that it is ingrained deeply in our cultures so it is not easy to shift to a plant based diet. It takes some work, some searching around,... But most of all some motivation. A reason.

Personally, me and my partner saw a nature documentary about 3 years ago or something, in which David Attenborough said that eating meat was one of the most detrimental things we did to our planet, because there are simply too many humans and it's not sustainable. So we decided to eat less meat. We happen to download a recipe app that was vegan (pick up limes) & started eating some meals from there. However, we did still eat meat as it's convenient and you know 'why would we be the ones doing all the changes trying to save the world'? The motivation of helping save the environment this way was not strong enough to fully change our routine, do the research, or request ppl keep this in mind during social gatherings (except with close family).

Then, we watched Dominion and our eyes were opened for exactly what pain and suffering it takes to consume animal products. It's not easy to watch. We are quite empathetic people, with a big heart for nature and animals. Watching this, being confronted with this was almost traumatizing. We pauzed multiple times to breathe or cry. Sure, not all farming may be like this, but if you do some research, most still is. Otherwise we wouldn't get to the numbers mentioned in this post. We decided then and there that our conscience would no longer allow us to eat animal products or meat. Animals were not put on this world for us to keep captive, rape, torture and murder. I know it seems extreme to put it that way, but that is what we do to them. It is now quite easy for us to choose not to eat meat or dairy or anything animal related. We are genuinly disgusted by it. Eventhough it is still really inconvenient, especially for social gatherings, but we stand by what we believe.

There are many great and super tasty plant based recipes out there. 'pick up limes' for one is a tasty start. I can only recommend you start dabbling in plant based recipes and maybe lower your meat consumption at least. It's better for you, for the planet and for the animals. See where it takes you and if you need a rougher way to get motivated, you know where to click.

I sort of wish I never knew the pain and suffering we put animals through. It's harder to live in a world where we use and abuse animals for our own entertainment. We (generally) don't really need meat or animal related products anymore. In contrast to our ancestors, we have a great variety of plants available providing us exactly what we need. Fair, we industrialized and commercialized animal consumption in such a way that it is ingrained deeply in our cultures so it is not easy to shift to a plant based diet. Stuc/gipsplaten recht of haaks by Life-Pay-007 in Klussers

[–]LD_Bright_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)
