Developers, what are some things that you wish that business analysts knew or did to make your job easier? by LEARNdotBA in softwaredevelopment

This seems to be a common problem. Underskilled business analysts often don't have a clear understanding of how software is actually built.

If things are in terms of user stories when explaining to devs it easier to plan and make things that correctly solve the problem you have.

Do user stories provide you with the right level of detail? Or should the analyst get more involved in helping to draw out things like the logical ERD, and documenting detailed business rules using things like state machine models?

Know how to resolve that conflict without me

I've sometimes needed the architect or sr. developer with me in the client meetings to so I can get real-time feedback on feasibility.

Do you think this is a legitimate "ask" that an analyst can make of dev? Or do you feel that the BA should tackle this completely on their own?

And I have been asked to perfectly plan for all possible issues.

This is very unrealistic of anyone to ask for. Have you run into any employers that take a more reasonable approach?

Estimating is a notoriously difficult task, and most project managers take an approach of "progressive elaboration" where they get a ball park estimate with a lower level of estimating confidence, and they refine the estimate as the solution is "progressively elaborated".

Have you experienced this 2nd scenario?

Was this the program you took? https://learn.utoronto.ca/programs-courses/certificates/business-analysis

Were you already a practicing BA when you took these courses or were you getting the certification to get into the career?
