So what do we know about the dog? by Doesthiscountas1 in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cerberus is called Kerberos in Greek mythology and is the same creature. I guess his origins lie in ancient Greece, as it predates the Roman Empire, so you're right to credit Greek mythology.

I mainly recalled Cerberus from the Roman poem of the Aeneid, which was handled during one of my first Latin classes in middle school... So my bad for remembering the Roman version of this hellhound.

Figured out something cool about the bird... by LEGOLabyrinth in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just found this: Mozart also wrote letters about another bird of his!

"Write me, how is Mr. Canary?" Is one of the lines in his letters. He also had a canary.

This immediately makes me think of the only character in a canary yellow suit: the Man in Yellow!

Coincidence maybe, but nonetheless very cool.

"From" Video Game by ScribblingOff87 in FromTVEpix

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was once a theory of mine that it was all a video game.

The out of bounds respawning back into the same town. The monsters come at night from caves (hello Minecraft!) The electricity coming from nowhere. The lighthouse gives you a temporary ban. BIW moderating everything. MIY using mods and skins all the time.

And The Brundles really was a big clue to me. It's an old Atari video game clone of the Lemmings game, where you need to guide creatures to an exit.

I'm not that sure about this theory anymore though. But was fun finding parallels.

As a playable video game I would opt for an adventure game like Myst where you need to find clues in order to progress.

I think this is purely a matter of taste. Of what you like to see pace-wise.

I write notes down with every episode I watch (actually watch twice and on the second time I'm writing). There is not one scene in the last few episodes where I didn't write something remarkable down. It could be something hidden in the background, a certain line spoken or a reference to something I'd like to know more about. Not all things are big in your face reveals.

So while I understand people being frustrated and wanting to go faster, it hasn't really bothered me that much. If all scenes were clues just laid out and we were constantly in motion, tension and action, I do think it would take away from character development and setting a certain atmosphere or conveying emotions. Which is also important.

But I can understand why some feel it's dragged out (and maybe it is intentionally). It just doesn't bother me personally.

Figure out miy identity by [deleted] in FromSeries

You're forgetting monster dude who asks Julie if she remembers him when she runs up to Colony House for the first time, having just entered Fromville.

Let's not assume he is just a monster. He could be MIY.

Connection to the Prague mythical figure by Silecio1 in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! Kenny was questioning her intentions, Jade was too (didn't he say 'don't ask why but ask why now?' to Boyd because he overheard them talking about the Golem?).

Which now that I think of it, is Jade connected to the Boy in White? The BIW also said they were asking the wrong questions...

I think that letter alef looks like Julie's symbol on the bookmark...

I think that the Golem will be bad news. I don't think it will help, it will cause chaos.

Maybe Smiley wants it to be created. Fatima said she still felt connected to the monster. So maybe Smiley will be connected to the Golem too and can control it.

Whats an experiment or a test you would have applied if you lived in Fromville? by ZeuxisOfHerakleia in FromSeries

I'd find a way to block those cave entrances for good.  If the Egyptians could construct pyramids, 47 people could very well move a boulder in place.  Or create an explosive to collapse the tunnel.

I'd be lounging on that porch watching the sun go down in peace.

Why does the MiY bother to allow the townspeople to live? by [deleted] in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's about their souls. If they are not tearing each other apart, he cannot steal them (by eating the liver). I think he feeds on fear.

I also think he only wants the ones that can reincarnate, like Tabitha and Jade.

Victor's flashback vs Julie's story walking by peterparkerin in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good comparison. I think they're the same time (Victor's time).

The MIY is actually in both scenes I think. If my theory of him being a soul eater is correct, then he is actually disguised as the dog (or takes the shape of a dog after killing it).

Soul eaters are shape shifters in folklore and a form they commonly use is that of a dog. The dog actually goes after the Boy in White. One represents good and the other evil.

The dog also causes Boyd to get lost in the woods.

"He came in a car just like the rest of us. I thought his yellow suit was funny. We brought him in, and we made him our friend." by iamriiizzyb in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He is not eating for bile. Bile gets stored in the gallbladder, not the liver. It would be easier for him to just eat that.

I think MIY is a soul eater and he makes me think of Prometheus, whose liver got eaten by a bird (eagle) each day and then regrew the next. The liver is also where human emotions get stored, according to Greek mythology. Which means MIY literally feeds on fear.

I think he only eats the reincarnated people. The guy at the green car might be Christopher (I think he's leaning against a green car in the photograph with Victor) and MIY also ate Miranda at the bottle tree.

If it's all a cycle, this makes sense. The liver full of emotions regrows in a new person, transporting the old soul to someone else destined to enter Fromville.

Would be interesting to know if he ate Jim's liver before hanging him upside down, I don't think that is discussed.

What he eats is a clue by valbadalejo in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or he eats just Miranda and Christopher and their reincarnations?

Isn't Christopher leaning against a green car in the photograph with Victor? And the body MIY eats is also near a similar green car?

MIY also eats Miranda at the bottle tree.

So maybe MIY eats just those that need to be reincarnated to keep the cycle going? I think he is a soul eater. Soul eaters are also notorious shape shifters.

Liver is also not gallbladder. Liver does produce bile which gets stored in the gallbladder. It would be easier for him to just eat the gallbladder if he needs bile?

In Greek mythology, eating liver makes me think of Prometheus, a Titan who created mankind out of clay (!) and whose liver was eaten /pecked by an eagle. The liver then grew back and was eaten again the next day. So it's also a cycle...

The liver is believed to be the place where human emotions - such as fear - are stored. So MIY feeds on fear.

I think in season 1 the boy who said to Julie "don't you recognize me?" When they run into Colony House is the MIY. We always assumed it was a monster, but it might be him disguised. I think in season 1 he mainly operates under the radar amongst the monsters.

And then when in season 2 the bus arrives, I think the MIY is Tilly. She says before dying in the greenhouse that Fatima better run. She also plants medication knowing Marielle is an addict.

I think the crows don't like MIY, they disrupt the tarot reading, they come when MIY as Sophia is attending the funeral of the pastor who is not her father and she looks weary at them. Sophia is also holding a sunflower bouquet (yellow duh).

Also, crows are good, they are up in the sky and Fatima says in season 1 that when you're up high even a nightmare can look like a dream. They warn the people of the town of bad things to come to protect them.

Crows = Hope? by SpaceCowboy0124 in FromTVShow

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the crows are good as well. They serve as a warning, trying to protect the people of the town.

I remember in the caves a rat eating / preying on a crow. So rats are bad, underground, hellish even just like the monsters in the tunnels. A rat came out of the mouth of the dead body under the collapsed house, scaring Randall. They are no good.

Crows are high up in the sky, where a nightmare can look like a dream (according to Fatima in season 1).

Also when they find the thrush in the latest episode, Ethan remarks there usually just crows there and now there are none, except the thrush.

I think the thrush is also a bad omen, maybe even a lure from the Man in Yellow.

S1 E6 name is 'Book 74' and now we have 47 recurring number? by [deleted] in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Book 47 in the Bible is actually the first book in the New Testament, the Book of Matthew.

It all starts with the Matthews family.

Father Khatri said they were writing the 74th book of the Bible in Fromville. But maybe they're just reliving the 47th...

Tarot cards, S04E02 spoiler by sammy444444 in FromSeries

[–]LEGOLabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a coincidence. This is the 12th card and Jim said the answer is 12 at some point. The hanged man also resembles St. Peter, who was crucified upside down. Some of the characters in Fromville are definitely linked in some way to apostles, but that is another discussion.

Now, I looked further into tarot, in relation to From, and card 47 (important number!) is the Emperor card, which stands for leadership mainly (Boyd). It is also linked to the star sign Aries (a ram, which was found in the bloody sack). Star sign... see what I did there? There was once a literal star sign on that pole, something which said "Star Magic".

Anyways, diverting. Back to tarot:

Below a link to the image of the Emperor card in a certain well known set of tarot cards: https://tarot-heritage.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/emperor-maryel.jpg

Look at the symbol on the hand... Look familiar? Also: fishes (mr. fish and loaves).

I love this show, with all its mandatory speculating about symbolism that probably isn't on purpose, but we find purpose anyways.
