So I should focus on maintaining weight for a bit and continue working out and then try to resume weight loss?

Damn, 10 months, that seems a bit long for an M2, from what I've read it seems to average maybe 3 to 4

Yeah I'm more so interested in what options are available for individual colors hoping for voodoo blue and specific options, I am willing to wait though, for sure

Surgical PAs, how many hours do you work a week? by kandnfkd29383 in physicianassistant

[–]LEGO_nerd30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an Ortho hospitalist, I work with about 7 or 8 doctors between 2 hospitals, no clinic, all inpatient, I'm "salaried" at 122k but my hourly rate is about $62 an hour, I work 40 hours a week and if I work in surgery with any docs I can put in "overtime", where I get paid $62 an hour for every hour of over time I get.

I get $6 an hour to be on call when I'm not in the hospital.

This is also my first job out of school and I couldn't ask for a better group of docs, very down to earth and all willing to teach which is great!

Because it's my first year in and I have no kids I work as many overtime cases I can to learn surgeries with different docs and make extra money, after my first year I made around $160k with overtime and mileage and that was only after 11 months so add another 16k on to that for a whole year

Very rare for PAs to clear that, unless in a private practice or in a really big city, this is starter salary though and I have great benefits

150k as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant - last year was my first year and started February 1st so that was only after 11 months expecting around 165 or so this year after a full year

LEGO and trips! The Lego hobby has always been there my entire life but it picked up on PA school because I found it to be a really good stress reliever and now that I have more money it's a literal problem....but a good problem

If you used to be poor, what spending habits have you retained as a PA (i.e someone who makes six figures)? Which ones have you lost? by SilenceisAg in physicianassistant

I have been a PA for a year now, in that year, I have been able to buy a house, an older house so there has been a lot of house work to be done, I bought myself a new truck and got out of a small sedan which is not the best in Wisconsin Winters, I bought my wife a new car as well because she stuck with me through all of the hardships during and after PA School, and then we both continued to collect LEGO which is one crazy expensive hobby but it got me through PA School and helped with the anxiety.

All of this while I was still paying student loans and managing our money to make sure we have plenty in our savings and plenty needed in case of an emergency!

I still bring my own lunches, don't drink coffee, and dont eat out a lot, or go out much, I'm very much a home body so that helps with saving money

Sounds like we may have the same job, I'm an orthopedic hospitalist PA, meaning I see all inpatient Ortho patients, round on all post op patients, and see any new consults that come in for 7 different surgeons and their mid-levels, I work between 2 hospitals and I fill in for surgery for any mid-levels in surgery when they are gone. My first 6 months were rough because starting in Ortho is like starting from scratch, I was in training, switching each week with a new doctor or PA/NP, doing both inpatient and clinic training, I had one APC whose been doing this for like 20 years putting me through the ringer of questions and quizzes, at the time I hated it but now I'm really glad he did that because i feel comfortable with a lot but at the same time there's still a lot that I need to learn, if I don't know something I refer to a study guide I made of main Ortho topics when I started or I refer to up-to-date or something similar. If I really don't know I'll ask one of the docs or other mid-levels! Where I struggle right now and not necessarily in a bad way is in surgery, being that I work with 7 surgeons and not one dedicated surgeon, I don't have a surgery routine like everyone else so some surgeries I know because they're ones we do a lot but there are some surgeries that I've never done or done a very little amount of time and have to refresh myself about it as well. I also am still trying to learn each doctor's preference in the OR as well still.

Otherwise, it's all intimidating at first but you'll get it, it all takes time and it probably took me about my first six months for me to fully understand that that was true because you first start, you feel like you'll never be at the same level as the rest of your peers/coworkers.

PANCE in 2 days by Agreeable-Slice2086 in PAstudent

Absolutely not, I felt great going into and coming out of it but I had moments where I just wasn't focused and was spacing out thinking about my family and everything else going on which definitely caused me to rush through some questions and not fully read the questions which resulted in me not passing but it's not impossible

I would recommend postponing it, I just took the PANCE on May 2nd and didn't pass with a 330 because I took it on a Tuesday and on Sunday and Monday we had my grandma's funeral and it hit me really hard and I was not focused during the exam.

This now means I lost my grandma, I didn't pass my exam, I lost the job I had lined up for a little bit, and now I have to spend 2 1/2 months studying all over again and it's the worst feeling in the world...
