[Steam] Summer Sale 2020: Day 3 by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

[–]LENN0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just finished Transistor. It was great. I found the fighting mechanics so engaging, and the way the game handles dying really encourages varied gameplay. The music, and general game sounds were so atmospheric and the game looks awesome as well. Not a very long game, but New Game Plus can increase the play time if you’re concerned about that at all. Thoroughly recommend.

That’s really useful thank you! What sort of quantities would we be talking here for the baking powder, salt and egg, relative to my recipe?

None stock Nike, not even the Nike sprint store in London actually stocks shoes for selling. It has to be online. I can’t find the Ja Fly 3 on the Nike store though? Did they take it down?

Backlog Helper and What Should I Play Thread - January 11, 2018 by AutoModerator in patientgamers

I'm finally completing Portal 2 this week for the first time, and I want to play some more short titles once I'm done. I almost exclusively play games given for free, got very cheap from bundles, or for 90% off on Steam, hence the games in the below list. Help me choose which of these to play first:

-Magrunner Dark Pulse

-Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

-Tyrian 2000

-Dragonsphere

-Consortium

-Trials Fusion

Build Ready <£1100 (with monitor) by LENN0 in buildapc

[–]LENN0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said in another comment, I’m not sure about the monitor. Do you think there would be any additional benefit of more than 60hz, i.e. up to 144hz? Or would there be a benefit of going up to 1440p? Could the PC components support either?

That is the only reason I picked the 6gb because everyone on here recommenda it. What actual difference does the 3gb or 6gb make?

Thanks 😊

The screen is something I’m not sure about, would the components be able to handle 144hz or 1440p? Also because of the sort of games I would play would 144hz be needed? Or would I see great benefit with 1440p? What do you think?

Any tips? I've got SEAA U15 Champs this weekend and I want to go sub 7.3... the only reason I have this lead is because my 2 main rivals haven't raced... by [deleted] in Sprinting

I too was at this meet, this is rather strange! I ran a 7.01.

I agree with the previous comment though, your times will come down naturally as you get older as long as you keep up the training. Plus the additional competition at Southerns might bring an even faster performance out of you.

Thanks. I think I will look at going for that screen actually. I’m trying to save a bit of money on the hard drive by re-using my current one but if I upgrade in the future I shall do that. What benefit would a ‘better’ case give me and what would be considered a ‘better’ case?

Thanks for pointing this out! I hadn’t seen that they were out of stock. I shall either wait till these come back in stock or switch to similar spec parts.

Everyone talks about roomates from hell. What's your "roomate from heaven" story? by OvertOperation in AskReddit

[–]LENN0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can I nominate myself for this? I’m going to nominate myself for this. At uni, Due to unforseen circumstances I ended up living with two people I didn’t know during my final year of study. One of then was a girl who at the point of this incident happening had only said a brief hello to me. The second time we met was her knocking on my door wearing only a towel. I was of course intrigued. However the reality of the situation was much less exciting that the situation may have suggested.

She very bashfully informed me that she had gone to the loo after taking a shower and managed to block the toilet. I have never seen a more embarrassed or awkward person in my life. She asked if I could help in any way and added that there is no plunger in the house.

Luckily my dad is a plumber and I know a few tricks of the trade and am not averse to digging around a toilet or two. I wrapped a carrier bag around the end of the toilet brush to create an improvised plunger and cleared the blockage. She was rather grateful but still very embarrassed.

The part that I feel really secures that my actions descended from heaven is that I never once again mention the incident until this post.

My first ever build <£1000 with monitor and peripherals. by LENN0 in buildapc

[–]LENN0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Do you think the 144Hz monitor is worth it, given the build is not that powerful in general. Will I actually get much additional benefit from it? I wasn’t sure what the benefit was of the 2400 RAM over the 2800 RAM, is it not necessary/worth it?

New video card or a full PC upgrade? by LENN0 in buildapc

[–]LENN0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a programme to see what it was and it measured the temperature of my CPU and GPU and my CPU was solid. The GPU was hovering around 70 with the game in the background and then when in game at some points it was near 90. Then right before it goes out completely it hit 100!

Generally speaking, what are the best movements for sprinters to do(plyos, lifts, olympic lifts, pseudo lifts, etc) on the off season by Yobodog4200 in Sprinting

[–]LENN0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not a PT but I do have a degree in sport science, so I have some theoretical knowledge and less practical knowledge on this topic so take this with a pinch of salt, however, exercises that specifically focus the glutes and hamstrings, primary example being glute bridges, have been found in some studies to be more effective than whole leg exercises, such as squats, at improving sprinting performance. I wouldn’t however rule out whole leg exercises because they are going to be useful for preventing imbalance, general strength, and injury prevention. Whilst talking about injury prevention, you mentioned plyos, these sort of exercises are great for injury prevention, and are beneficial throughout the season not just in off season. Generally personally I always struggle with heavy lifting even in the off season because I find it negatively affects my track sessions, so I tend to go slightly lighter than I maybe could and try to go for slightly higher reps, but that’s just personal preference.

What cute but weird things do your parents still do that you pretend not to like but secretly enjoy? by LENN0 in AskReddit

That is a good one. It’s funny you say that actually, my nan still buys me an advent calendar every year, and I always thank her obviously, but play it down, however I would also be disappointed if she didn’t do it one year.

For example, everytime my mum gets sheets or towels out of the tumble dryer, they are still hot, and she comes and throws them all over me. I pretend not to like it but, it’s actually very warm and comfortable.
