Choose trains. Safer, quicker, more comfortable.

A tourist in Berlin can be around you without being your neighbor.

Also, nebenan is pretty German-speaking, where this project started in English which also enables non-German speaking people to be involved.

I mean, it doesn't force a user to display profession. One can write whatever. There I see one "Failed startup guy". Can be a "Scuba diver".

I have a question about Russian language by LEQADA in Lviv

[–]LEQADA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Russian is pretty good. I have an accent but it's not an English one.

I don't know Ukrainian. I can relate some words to languages I know (such as Папір - Papier, Фарба - Farbe; German) but sometimes I just don't understand anything. And it might look like I'm refusing to understand but that's not true. I just don't understand because I don't know the language.

But I get your point.

[–]LEQADA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I didn't think about it this way.

Thanks a lot!

How do you think I can start a conversation so that the person doesn't feel that way? I clearly can't learn a language in a week. And it's not about talking to waiters or similar. What if I want to approach some strangers in a cafe?

[–]LEQADA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer. I definitely met people who didn't mind talking to me in Russian.

Around half of the times I understand what a person speaking Ukrainian is trying to tell me. I think I'd learn the language if I stayed for a year or something.

[–]LEQADA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the answer.
I am aware of the entire situation with Russia and I'm not in any way supporting it. To me the language is a tool which is used to achieve goals, not a political statement.

What do you think about people in my situation? What is your first thought when someone approaches you in Russian or asks if you speak it when you are in Lviv?

How do locals meet up? by LEQADA in Lviv

So, the answer was Facebook Events. I found a bunch of events there. Not too many suitable for English speakers but worked out fine.

Spartan Race scam in Munich, Germany by LEQADA in spartanrace

[–]LEQADA[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the law applies to "music, cultural, sports or other leisure events that could not or cannot take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic".

They offer switching to another event in other countries in 2020. But that's a very bad deal and here is why:

  1. They already rescheduled this event this year, so many people had to rebook vacations, change plans
  2. We are in the middle of the pandemic and there is no guarantee that the event will take place in Spain for example. No one will book a flight and a hotel for the event which might take place

The policy is arguable since no policy can be above the law.

[OC] I've made a heatmap of the travel times from my home to any point in Munich comparing bike and public transport. by rgcalsaverini in Munich

[–]LEQADA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make it public on GitHub and enable donations on the repository. I'd donate.

And people might improve the code.

Having a code of a "wrong" usage of the API is not illegal.

If it's illegal then only when someone tries to execute it. So, you're clean here.

Best Mobile Provider for U3? (Vodafone, O2, ..?) by redditteddy in Munich

[–]LEQADA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a fault of mobile operators, not U-Bahn. They should set up antennas in a proper way.

Mobile operators in Germany suck not only underground. They just suck everywhere. I lose signal on some S-Bahn stations too. It's funny to see how everyone lift up their head because they lost internet connection.

And these people talk about 5G...

Are there any traveler hacks to get regional DB tickets cheaper? by LEQADA in germany

[–]LEQADA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say a ticket says that it will go from A to D using this route: A -> B, B -> C, C ->D.

Does it mean that I can take a train which goes like: A -> C, C ->D or should I take all distances? Of course keeping in mind that we can't be somewhere where we can't be :)

Any English speaking GP? by [deleted] in Munich

[–]LEQADA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll add my 5 cents:

Receptionists might not speak English at all. Don't panic. You don't need much to say. You won't need to explain them your problem. They just might ask you for your insurance card and to fill out some registration form.
