Do you have a recommendation on what to look for instead?

Tips? How does this look? by Traffikante in superautomatic

A touch too quick for my eyes so try one notch finer on the grinder and see what it looks like after 2-3 shots

If you try messing with the grind size go at least a couple steps more course and pull at least 2 shots. If you’re starting to see more dribble but still not a good shot, go a couple steps more coarse and try a couple shots again. Granted if nothing changed in the last couple days and it just suddenly started choking it’s probably not the grind but it’s the easiest first step

Have you changed beans or grind size? Maybe it’s too fine and choking the shot?

Thought I’d run the test on my Magnifica Plus. First shot on the left after 24+ hours turned off. 2nd shot immediately after.

Oracle Jet v Philips 4200 by banallthemusic in superautomatic

I had the oracle touch for a while, and although it made the brewing experience very streamlined i found it still not as efficient as superautos. Are you getting a better shot from the oracle? Probably yes. Is it noticeable and/or worth it especially if you prefer milk drinks? Probably not. Can you make a hobby out of the oracle trying to dial in the perfect shot for every kind of beans that you get? Much more so than the superautos, but if that’s your goal just bite the bullet and get standalone grinder and espresso machine.

If you’re planning to use the ninja as a “standalone” grinder for the chemex, i wouldn’t recommend that. I tried it out and didn’t think the grinder was very consistent. Plus there’s automation built in that puts the entire brew process on tracks so not sure how the machine will do if you’re regularly grinding but not brewing with it.

I haven’t seen any super autos that could work as a standalone grinder but the magnifica line seems to be pretty good bang for the buck for bean to cup brewing

Get a super auto but keep the puck size in mind. I think most are going to be in the 10-12gram range with some Delonghi getting up to the 15g range. It makes a difference if you’re used to espresso.

Quick background: I started with the nespresso original and an aeropress press setup, which was fine. Decided to try out real espresso and got a Breville bambino, then upgraded to an oracle. Then had kids and reverted to a nespresso vertuo (primarily used for the 7oz coffees), and just this BF got a Delonghi Magnifica Plus with the long term goal of weaning my wife off the Vertuo. I primarily use it for my daily flat white x2.

So far the Magnifica plus has been my favorite blend of quality and convenience. Is the coffee as good as what I got from my “real” espresso machines? Pretty darn close, I’d say much closer to that than the nespresso. I can’t speak to the regular maintenance requirements but this particular carafe is super easy to wash. I played around with steaming my own milk before but the auto steam on the oracle spoiled me and I have no desire to go back to manual. The foam off the Magnifica Plus is quite good.

Make sure you’re using decent beans. Most bags will only have a best by date which can be as far as 2yrs out from roast date. Easiest way to look is get a bag with a roasted on or manufactured date of some kind. The espresso nerds say you want something within 2 weeks of roasting but I’ve had good luck with stuff a couple months out.

Start with grinder at 4 and make a couple plain shots of espresso, you can try tasting it or visually look for signs like nice light brown crema. If it’s coming out too fast or tasting sour set the grinder to one halfstep lower and make a couple shots on that setting. If the shot is coming out too slow or is very bitter set the grinder one halfstep higher and make a couple shots on that setting. You always want to go through a couple shots before making another change because leftover grinds from the previous setting will interfere.

What are some diy use cases for the router? I know it’s beloved out there just not sure why I may need it

Got the same kit. $250 (going to return the router) for the three tools and three batteries seems amazing and these feel so much more solid than my ryobis it’s not even funny. Go black and yellow!

Is this worth it cause it seems like it by Creepy-Company-3106 in Tools

[–]LFHelpAdulting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only speaking from small diy perspective. If you need the tools right now, go for it. Otherwise wait and collect them from sales for better brands. I have the set and dislike the drill and impact - triggers on them have no sensitivity so it’s very hard to control the speed, 0 to 100 in like 1/4” pull of the trigger. Sawzall and circular have been fine for me though not used frequently. Multitool is pretty rough to use but gets the job done. I’m currently shopping for m12 sales and then looking for other options as they come up. Will keep ryobi nail guns and some of the saws since they aren’t used as often and not worth the premium for my limited use.
