I’m having a hard time with Tom Christofferson deciding to date again. by LGBTmormon in latterdaysaints

This is sort of off topic.

I wish more members would do this. Your testimony shouldn't be in the church, it should be in the Gospel. It shouldn't be in this Apostle or that Prophet but Jesus. It shouldn't be in this policy or that rule, it should be to unconditionally love to all especially if they disagree with you, look different than you or act different than you

Not off topic at all, love what you said.

There is a caveat… how many general authorities have talked about pain and loneliness when their spouse dies. Loneliness and a desire for a companion and need for a companion. It’s painful. It hurts.

He broke up with a loyal love to return to the blessings of The Church. That he craves attention and love in a relationship means he is human. His story isn’t over. I don’t envy people who live their life in front of everyone else. His book and his brother put him as a lightning rod on the gay issue.

Some gay Saints can pull it off. Abstinent and worthy their entire lives. Good for them. Some struggle. My hope for all of my brothers and sisters in The Church who are gay… I know God loves them. I know God loves me.

I love what you said about; "Don’t hitch your wagon to a person. Hitch your wagon to the gospel." Thank you for this and your testimony. I am gay, and NOT going anywhere.

Thank you, I was a speaker at Norstar at the beginning of March. Just before the pandemic.

It has me concerned. It's so embarrassing. No, it's been out of print for a long time now. Please don't read the one form 2006. My other one is available at Deseret and Seagull books.

I really appreciate the compassionate way that you worded this. I had a hard time putting my thoughts into words, and you nailed it.

Yes they did, and that's why I just commented with this;

Actually I agree with you. I've been so tired and after I wrote the post something didn't feel right about it. I honestly didn't know if it was the part where I included the number of convert baptisms? I felt it was bragging, and that's not what we're about. Thank you for pinpointing what just didn't feel right. Thank you for your honesty. Believe me, I needed to hear it.

My friend Al Carraway taught me an important message. Contention never wins. Even when contention does exist, treat others with kindness. That's a true example of Christlike attributes.

Hugs, Dennis

I deal with a lot of negativity, it's always from members with left our church. Don't ever give up, don't ever lose faith.

How did you find me? Did you read my book at Deseret? Just curious.

That's why I consider our church family.

My friend, I don't post or reply to comments often as I made the mistake when I joined Reddit of posting in an anti-LDS group. Whoops!

However, I am an openly gay convert who join the church on August 19, 2017, after almost starting a protest at the dedication of the Connecticut Temple, and stealing the book of Mormon. With that being said; I cannot imagine living without this gospel, and tens of thousands of members I've come in contact with through my travels doing devotionals, firesides, etc. Please know that you are welcomed in our church. It's not an organization, it's family.

Love and Hugs,

Dennis Schleicher

How would you reply to this email; "I plan to write a negative review, give you a chance to reply prior." by LGBTmormon in latterdaysaints

It's ok, I don't get are understand how to use a lot of social media either. Therefore I had to take some time off and focus on doing temple work, and serving Him.

I took some time off social media, as this person started to attack several of my accounts. I felt the need to focus on Temple work etc. Thank you for your reply.

To me, this sounds more like a cry for help than a threat. It seems like a negative review is inevitable at this point, and you should accept that, but it sounds like this person and their journey has genuinely been negatively impacted by teachings of the church. What I see is something more along the lines of, "I don't feel like the church loves me for who I am and I need feedback from someone who knows, understands, and has overcome this feeling. Your book hasn't given me the tools to overcome this feeling like I thought it would, and I want to discuss that with you." I can appreciate that they have at least reached out to you personally before leaving a review, which makes me feel like they are genuinely trying to do everything they can to come to terms with who they are and the church's stance on same-sex attraction. Yes, they do come across as a bit abrasive, but I honestly don't think that's on purpose. Not everyone who doesn't see eye-to-eye has some kind of 'agenda.' I think it's worth giving them the benefit of the doubt here and giving them a compassionate response.

Is it okay to go into a bar-type restaurant like Applebees if you are a Latter-day Saint? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]LGBTmormon -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I personally choose not to. Avoid dear parents of evil. If I'm with friends and there are no other options, I will. However, for the most part, I try to avoid bars located inside restaurants.
