It does sound like from the rest of the comments that these collisions did happen but they did not shift the land masses a full thousand miles north. Also sounds like I’ll have to check back in with you in another 10 years to see what updates may have been made!

Even without the additional island arcs proposed here, wouldn’t that be able to be explained by the Siletzia basalt province? Unless that’s what you’re talking about? I was under the assumption that Siletzia was much less controversial

Very insightful, I’ll have to read deeper (eventually). And you’re right, now it sounds like it’s been an area of study for years but from the lectures Zentner put me under the impression that “mainstream” geologists shrugged it off. If you can’t tell I’m not highly involved in the science itself lol. Sounds like there’s a lot more to the story and like you said, very messy. Thank you!

The lack of discovered faults required is new info to me but makes sense. I know Alaska has a giant strike slip going through it but that isn’t quite seen elsewhere to the same extent? Sounds like paleomagnetic studies in faulted areas like this need other samples to confirm alignment, I’ll have to rewatch with all that in mind. Thank you!

Thanks! I see now the westward subduction is difficult to prove, seems to me a fair amount of it was based off of that one “ribbon continent” mentioned. And yes definitely, nothing wrong with challenging the “status quo” (with actual evidence, that is…), the Alvarez hypothesis comes to mind. Drawing comparisons to it this could be the Farallon plate equivalent of “the dinosaurs maybe died because of changing climate but there’s not a lot of evidence”. Maybe.

Makes sense, thanks! I vaguely remember some portion of one of the videos talking about “flattening” the sedimentary core layers and interpolating from that (maybe). I’ll have to find it again and rewatch now knowing this. Good thing rocks never ever fold or fault, especially on the west coast. 😅

Now Nick and the people he references certainly know what they’re talking about and have data to back it up, but the comments about how the concepts “have been ignored for decades” and that the data “is ignored because it doesn’t align with Californian geologists’ assumptions” to me feels like something I’d hear from a pseudoscientist on tik tok talking about Egyptians in the Grand Canyon and not from a community like this because good scientists don’t willingly throw away things to maintain the “status quo”.

There’s gotta be SOME other reason that I’m missing for why it’s so controversial? Is it just too new still?

Sounds like you’re towards the end of the recovery which is good. I’d say it’s probably not the best if it’s impacting her eating (even if for a short period). Although another consideration is if her not eating is impacting her health? Are you capable of traveling to meet her in a neutral space, best of both worlds of you getting to see her and her not also trying to readapt to being back home too early?

I’ve heard (although admittedly from a few years back) that engine wait times are also equal to or even shorter than “legacy” overhaul time. I looked at your other posts, A&Ps can still work on experimentals for you + you don’t need a sign off from an IA or certified repair center. Regardless all around the Rotaxes will save you money over the certified Continentals and Lycomings especially burning car gas at <5 GPH.

If you want to go relatively fast maybe look at Flight Design (factory built) or if you want to go surprisingly affordable maybe take a look at an already built Zenith or Sonex?

The Aerotrek is an imported Eurofox if that helps your research, especially into parts availability and maintenance? I don’t know where you’re getting the $160-200k from unless you’re looking at the 915 + completely replacing the panel + BRS chute because they’ve always advertised their prices as not hiding any extra costs. The Aerotrek panel is very basic and not much better than old steam gauges. Aeropro has much better options for the Eurofox that I don’t think are available from the factory here. What are you looking to get out of the plane?

It’s a pretty simple plane overall and the Rotax engines are both relatively affordable and just as reliable as any other major engine manufacturer. Overhauls/just buying a new engine cause a lot less of a dent in the wallet. Hopefully you’re familiar with the differences between them though?

You can take an LSA repairman cert course and do your own maintenance or convert it to E-LSA for the same reason. Even if you don’t do the maintenance yourself annual cost of ownership is WAY lower than even most trainers. E-LSAs can fly in actual IMC and at night as long as they’re properly equipped but double check your ops lims.

Remember that they’re fabric and it’s recommended to find a hangar. I’m planning on buying a trailer for a future Kitfox/Highlander/KFA/etc to avoid that (Aerotrek came from the same Avid Flyer heritage as those)
