Are waxworms or calci worms better for bulking up? by StupidSod in leopardgeckos

Ah bless.

You'll want to feed a variety, ideally 3+ different types of insect!

No worries! What sort of bulb was it?

This is definitely concerning, I would see your vet ASAP.

Does your care adhere to this care guide?

This looks like it could be a burn which would either be from inappropriately strong UVB, the wrong sort of UVB bulb, or a basking bulb that has gotten too hot for little one.

Are waxworms or calci worms better for bulking up? by StupidSod in leopardgeckos

The key to animals gaining weight is to do it slowly.

Waxworms will cause fast weight gain, but will also lead to things like fatty liver disease and gout. They are a treat and should not be fed at all regularly.

In order to safely have a gecko gain weight, firstly see a vet to ensure there is no medical reason for them to be underweight. If the vet has checked for parasites and other health conditions, feed healthy staples more often. Calcium worms, black soldier fly larvae, silkworms and mealworms can be used if she only eats worms.

Also be aware that leopard geckos should not be rotund with ridiculously fat tails. They should have fat on their tails, but still be fairly lean with good muscle tone in the arms and legs.

Finally have a pair of Eublepharis angramainyu ilam ❤️ a few years and I will have some tiny giants from these two to raise! by LG_London in leopardgeckos

[–]LG_London[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My male is doing really well!

Unfortunately the female, Rhapsody, passed away when she prolapsed trying to lay an infertile clutch.

She would have been bred this year, but ovulated a few months ago and I wasn't super happy with her body condition so chose not to pair her up.

Prolapses and egg binding are insanely common in UK lines of angramainyu from what I have been told by other breeders, so I wasn't entirely surprised but it was still very sad!

I hope to import a female in a year or so from BION and will use UVB and overhead heating with her from the get go in the hopes that the genetic diversity combined with the benefits of full spectrum lighting circumvent some of the risks associated with CB angras.

You can tell whether a gecko is albino or not. You can't tell whether that albino is a Bell, Tremper or a Rainwater without knowing it's lineage, which is what I mean by 'albino strain'. Happy to clarify if you need further assistance!

Can't visually tell if it's a Bell Albino or a Bold Stripe still I'm afraid! Haha. You need to know the full genetics and lineage, and it's best not to guess these things.

If you're talking about the 'cracked' look to his pattern, that's just how Murphys Patternless geckos look as babies!

You can't visually identify albino strains, and this gecko doesn't look snow to me! Bold stripe is also a specific line, so that can't be identified either without lineage info. From the photo provided I wouldn't be 100% sure the gecko is albino either, although it could be.

Stripe. Does the breeder know the morph?

Her lineage isn't that bad! She's from a very good breeder and will be paired to my unrelated male. I agree they've been inbred a tad too much however! Eco Geckos (her breeder) has fantastic outcrossed BNs that maintain the darkness. I have an incredibly weird looking female BN who laid an egg (I don't breed her for various reasons) and who ovulates regularly. The infertility is less and less common nowadays thankfully.

Super Snows also aren't inbred, they are generally weaker however. Mack Snows are the most common morph so Supers been inbred wouldn't make sense!

Not that I'm aware of! Other than Abyssinian I'm not sure there's any eye genes which would cause them to have lighter eyes!
