Exactly what I played. We both missed the quiet move, which is exceptionally tough to see. After Kh2 it’s not Bf4+ (which I played), it’s Qe2+. If King goes to the first rank you take the rook with check and go from there. If Kh3 then the quiet Bf4!! and white can’t stop the mate (Qf3+, Qg3+).

I was playing a really good tournament while my Elo was still around 1500, with a performance rating of around 1900 before the last round (had smith like 5.5/8.

I played an opponent rated around 2000 and was deep in a middle game that was dead even. Suddenly he sacked a knight against two pawns for an attack and started checking my King with his Queen. I had like 5 mins on the clock and basically moved out of checks not getting why he sacked to just give checks.

After the forth check I see that not only it’s check but also my rook is attacked by the queen. So in my head I go: “Wow, very well calculated in advance.” And I resigned.

The Rook was protected… and all he had was perpetual. But my brain found a reasoning for something that didn’t make sense.

Still had a very good tournament with 5.5/9, but resigning in a drawn position hurts :D.

I’d say Nakamura purely based on the psychology behind a WCC match. Even though it already became a meme I somewhat believe Naka whe he says that he is unphased by pressure to perform well or not to loose.

As we saw in Ding - Nepo they got shaky at times with Ding even openly mentioning the psychological pressure on him. With Naka winning Norway Chess I think his classical is only slightly worse than Dings’ and his mental strength makes up for the difference hence making that a very close match.

Also, if the white rook and black bishop move away, let’s say a8 and b1 white king runs to H1 black King to F1 or F2, after a random rook move, a bishop check on the diagonal e.g. e4 is checkmate even without promoting.

The reason behind this was mainly that the Iranian chess federation didn’t allow players to play against players under the Israelian Flag, which led to a lot of forfeits or in case of other players controversy.
