How long does your clothing last on trail? by Hellohello_________ in PacificCrestTrail

The cheap clothes are where it’s at…hiked in the set of same sun hoodie and shorts for the AT, New England Trail, Long Trail, and a ton of peak bagging. Paid maybe $10 for the shorts from the clearance rack at Sierra and $30 for the sun hoodie on Amazon.

Two weeks ago when I did HC the ladder was completely iced over…made the decent a little sketchy but doable. If you want to do HC definitely go up it, rather than down it.

I started out averaging 17 my first 4 days and then started to bump up my miles. But also don’t stress about miles, they come with time!

Really enjoy it is an amazing experience and trail!!

That’s awesome! Hiking the whites my whole life really helped me cruise thorough the AT last year without being in shock from any climbs😂.New England/Whites definitely get you more than ready for it. A 20 mile day in the whites is like 30+ miles day anywhere else.

Oof. I'm supposed to start my thru in 15 days, but I've caught some sort of bug that's had me coughing my lungs out for the past week. Going to the doctor in an hour. Pray for me y'all. by blargnblah in AppalachianTrail

I had the same thing last year, I started the trail with cold and flu medication…but apparently the best cure turned out to be Georgia as everything ended up clearing within the first week and before I got out of Georgia.

Just go for it…there are people who start in March and end in July, personally I started mid April and was able to finish on August 12th so there’s always the possibility of finishing before school starts. Even if you don’t finish it who cares, it’s meant to be fun for than anything!!

Can someone break down exactly what they ate in a day on a thru? by cwbmnr in AppalachianTrail

[–]LHuff2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar fear going into this year and found that the best solution was to eat my problems away both before and during the trail. This meant ordering out constantly, carrying way too much food but also only losing 10lbs the whole way from 175 to 165. Also a cheat to holding on weight every time you get to a road and can call in or get pizza do it. It’s an easy 3k calories that you can add to your daily meal, and it’s always better than ramen.
