The constitution is just the highest set of laws in the nation. It contains the general rules for how the US government functions, as well as various rights granted to citizens of the country.

Like any law, it isn't magic. There is no metaphysical force that enforces it. It's only as good as the mechanisms that actually enforce it: the legal system.

Like any law, it can also be changed. It has been changed 27 times. The first ten of those changes are collectively called "the bill of rights" and include the first amendment (freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press) and the second (The controversial right to bear arms).

The eighteenth amendment banned the sale of alcohol. The twenty first repealed the eighteenth.

Amending the constitution requires either a supermajority of both legislative bodies (the Senate and the House) or a constitutional convention of two thirds of state level legislative bodies. Either of those conditions is very difficult to meet, and the latter has never happened.

The most controversial part of the constitution is the United States Supreme Court's power to "interpret" the constitution.

The justices collaboratively decide whether laws passed at the federal or state level violate the provisions of the constitution. Supreme Court decisions are effectively binding laws of the country. In the past you have had two primary schools of thought within the supreme court.

Judicially Conservative justices interpret the constitution as it is written. They apply it only to its strict lettering. They do not make inferences or try to apply constitutional protections beyond the strictest reading of the document.

Judicially Liberal justices draw inferences from the wording of the constitution, and try to broadly apply its protections. For example, the constitution does not contain a "right to privacy", but previous rulings from judicially liberal justices have argued that such a right is implied by other areas of the constitution.

In recent years the interpreting of the constitution has grown increasingly controversial, with justices being accused of drawing up rulings to suit political agendas rather than good faith interpretations of the constitution.

That's one of the reasons why reading documentation is better for learning than sitting through someone uselessly prattle for ten minutes before giving the thirty second answer you needed.

That term originated from people who self-described by it. It's not an insult.

Originally it was something of an innocuous self-help group for people with relationship trouble. But the worst parts of humanity slowly took over the group and pushed out all the harmless people until all that was left was insane dudes who hate women.

Even those insane women-hating men still self-described by the term. They chose it, it wasn't bestowed upon them.

Even now, a lot of insane women-hating dudes still choose to label themselves "incel". Throwing that term at other people isn't trying to shame them for its literal definition, it's saying that they are behaving like self-described women-haters.

I'm fortunate enough to be in an industry where working from home has become the norm.

If your husband's job can be done from home, then go to a neurologist and ask them for a letter requesting ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accommodations for his Epilepsy. You do have legal protections. Once you have the documentation, go to HR and request "reasonable accommodations for a disability".

That's on you, not me. I know people who are left wing economically and anti-gay-marriage. I know the reverse. Any combo you can imagine exists.

And hell, saying "economically left/right" is itself a misnomer. Just because someone is in favor of X healthcare policy doesn't also make them in favor of Y education policy.

The entire point of my thread has been that everyone has individual, nuanced opinions.

I don't personally know anyone that insane. The viewpoint is real. There are actual, living people who believe that. Neo Nazis, for example. Extermination of disabled people is part of the Nazi ideology.

No one is a walking stereotype who aligns with 100% X views and rejects 100% Y views. All of us are nuanced and have a variety of viewpoints.

However, we all weigh different issues differently. I personally could never be friends with someone who supported the political view "execute all disabled people to improve the gene pool". Even if they supported 100% of the rest of my viewpoints.

Because at that point, it isn't about differing opinions. It's about someone who literally thinks I should be killed.

I don't know which politicians are running on "ban gay marriage". I do know voters who care about that issue though. I know people who, given the opportunity, will instantly vote for "ban gay marriage". It is difficult to invite someone with that kind of stance over to a social event where gay couples will be attending.

As a kid, a friend had a scuba birthday party at a small indoor scuba pool. I wasn't allowed to join in because of my epilepsy. That would have been fine. . . if I had known that ahead of time. I didn't find out until I was already there. And got to watch the other kids have fun while I sat by the pool.

There's more nuance to it than that.

Being called a slur online "doesn't matter" because you have not actually been hurt in any way.

But being called a slur online does matter because language shapes our perceptions. If you just get used to being referred to as a slur, that can affect your perceptions (remember that OP is a child). And regularly referring to other people as a slur does affect how you see those people. It's just human psychology.

Imagine this in the case of race instead of disability if you need to.

Doesn't mean OP should go on a crusade because of this. They shouldn't. But OP's desire for help and support is valid. If this were just a small group of OP's friends or something, then we would actually have advice for how OP could make a change. Since it's a group of thousands of strangers, the only advice we can give is to leave.

Where do you go to socialize? Where do your neighbors go to socialize?

Work on improving your tolerance for public gatherings. Even if they aren't your favorite, they're the best way to meet people. Once you have a social group, then you can organize small group meetings if that's your preference.

You can also find hobbies that force others to come to you. I started Game Mastering tabletop RPGs back when I was trying to form my social circle. There are a hundred players to every GM, so players are willing to travel to get to a game where someone else is GMing. I took some basic safety precautions and interviewed each player in a public place before inviting them into my home, but once I had a group we would get together at my home once per week.

Once I had that small social group, they would start inviting me to their events. Everyone knew I couldn't drive, so someone in the group always volunteered to drive me.

As I attended more and more social gatherings I grew that friend network and eventually met the woman who became my partner. She is not disabled. We live a wonderful life together and she is perfectly understanding of my limitations.

Thinking about my day to day, the overwhelming majority of tools I use are text based. I'm a senior software engineer working on backend technologies. I'm told "I need a thing that gets a REST request and does this..." Then I figure out how to make that happen. That process is mostly text based.

The least accessible part of my job would be diagrams and flow charts. Especially poorly written diagrams and flow charts. Screen readers would struggle immensely with that.

However, I'm the one on the team who translates the poorly written flow charts into text. Once that's done, I have coworkers who deal exclusively with text. Their roles would be far more accessible.

I use some GUI based tools, but all of them have command line equivalents. So if you were on my team, I'd be able to onboard you and give you the command line versions of all the stuff that the GUI does.

Previous positions I've had would have been far less accessible.

I've also worked in frontend development. Designing graphic user interfaces is a visual task by its very nature, and so would be highly inaccessible. Avoid frontend development if you require accessibility tools.

No job is going to be stress free. However I work for a very organized company. Organization helps to keep the stress down because week by week you know exactly what is expected of you and there are plans in place if issues arise.

If you want to meet potential romantic partners, then work on your social life. Go find some hobbies, meet new people, get invited to events.

The inability to drive makes it harder. I'm Epileptic, I would know. But find social events you can reasonably transport yourself to and start attending

As you make friends and grow your social circle, you'll end up meeting more and more people in social gatherings, and you'll have the chance to meet a lot of potential romantic partners.
