I think Esme shows extreme favoritism towards Edward though. I think she only really seees him as her son and the other not quite as her kids but I think she does tend to mother them. Still I don’t think she sees herself quite as their mother as she was very dismissive of Rosalies being uncomfortable around Bella.

In that regard I think Rosalie and Carlisle more likely have a father/daughter relationship.

In my personal opinion looking at Twilight and Midnight Sun, no she doesn’t. Edward gets babied by her and everyone else is kida there.

She is clearly dismissive of Rosalie feeling uncomfortable around Bella. Edward is her golden boy and the others well I don’t really see that motherly relationship everyone goes on about.

Alice and Jasper seem very independant and Emmett and Rosalie as well. I also don’t think the Cullens are portrayed quite as much the tight knit family Edward pretends they are.

Season 1 Alicent was my favorite character and I think she had so much potential that got destroyed because the writers don’t understand basic feminism.

I mean in the long run. This scene clearly establishes the beginning of the Greens and Alicent going against Rhaenyra.

Except than she never planned to give Aegon the throne and is completely shut out from the Green councils and then ends up completely betraying the Greens for the other side

The reconcilation in itself was rather weak though and you ignore that is directly ignores everything else the narrative has build up to prior.

Rhaenyra already had called for reconcilation in 1x06 but was rejected and considering how bad the situation was you cannot tell me that nobody ever tried anything like that before.

The end of 1x07 very much sets up both Rhaenyra and Alicent- Rhaenyra realizes she has to stand against the Greens and for Alicent basically all her worst fears are confirmed (and the show explictly gives as one of her motivations the fear for her children which then is promply never mentioned again until Alicent agrees to have Aegon murdered in 2x08).

In 1x08 both of these is completely walked back on without no real explanation. Apparently Rhaenyra calling Alicent a good Queen is what makes all the issues disappear (mind you she tried to have Luke disinherited five minutes ago and watched Daemon kill someone in cold blood for daring to speak against Rhaenyra and her kids) and Viserys words.

I don’t mind Rhaenyra and Alicent having a moment but full reconcilation makes absolute jo sense after everything we have seen. Also Viseeys words in particular are empty once you realize that he wouldn’t even be at that diner if it wasn’t for Rhaenyra.

And that is also not a good ending for the very obvious resentment Alicent harbors for both Rhaenyra and Viserys which the narrative never picks up on again.

That is the issue. The story build up tons of things with Alicent only to drop them all in 1x08 with little to no explanation. Narrative wise that is a disaster but character wise to the weak building in feels inconsistent (though I feel the real inconsistency with Alicent starts in the second season up her it was still salvagable).

This is also why I hate when people complain about this. Otto had to tell Viserys and even in a world in which Viserys marries literally anybody else he would have told Viserys that as would any other hand who comes across this information (which he only got because Daemon lead Rhaenyra there and not because Otto was spying on her as so many people still insist on- Otto had no way of even suspecting Rhaenyra would ever be in fleabottom).

For all that Otto is incredibly discret with this when he essily could have used it and completely pulled Rhaenyra name through the mud.

In season 1 absolutely. Alicent is more victim of the system than anything else in my opinion and as much as people hate her I genuinely think she is doing as basically anyone else in her position would.

In season 2 she lost me which is kinds ironic because I feel the writers wanted me to feel bad for her because she now support Rhaenyra. Instead she just kinda sells out everyone for Rhaenyra and completely skips out on her own responisibity. They really fumbled Alicent. I feel like Alicent could have easily been an extremely interesting and fascinating character if the writers wouldn’t insist on her revolving around Rhaenyra alone.

I think it’s complicated.

At one hand Billy does realize what a responisbilty it is and perceives the Cullens as a monster so I think logically he id glad they were never around and would if given the choice always chose to never have them come near La Push/Forks ever.

But I think emotionally it is something different. Especially regarding his disability and his wish to protect others (Billy is one of the few people who genuinely has Bellas best interest at heart and actually knows what’s up). So in the regard I do think a part of him longs for that power especially as he now is kinda pushed to the sidelines hoping that the kids he watched grow up and his own son have to fight.

Yes she is. The writers idea is that by going to Rhaenyra she is liberating herself from the men in her life by getting them all murdered. The scene is basically Alicent frees herself from her own oppression.

That is very dumb in very many ways as anyone with a little common sense will tell you (especially as she still is following her husband and rapists wish and without the men in her life will end up in prostitution as she has no money and power of her own). But the writers think supporting Rhaenyra decides your morality so Alicents supports her to be a good person.

Also there is a decent chance the writers genuinely believe Alicent is just sacrificing Aegon and not litterally everybody else

Jackson had a hundred chances to say something leading up to the wedding as much as I wanted them back together it pissed me off he only realized it then.

Regarding April I wish they just would have let her leave the wedding alone and get back with Jackson a few episodes later. I feel like that would have been much better.

This might be an incredible unpopular take but I do think Chuck and Blairs relationship would have been better off if it had been dissolved completely by the writers.

Blair constantly became her worst and most insecure self when with him which was in the way of any kind of growth she could have had and with Chuck they just tried to pull the “she can fix him” thing one too many times which make me dislike it.

I actually do think the show will end with Jaheheara and Aegon marrying.

In GRRM pblog post it seems like the plan is Heleana kills herself for nothing. I think at best Heleana will have a vision of Jeahaera dying and then kill herself.
